  • The Commercial College heralded the entry of Commerce education in the university system of Delhi. The initial funds for setting up of the College came from the Dewan Chand Trust. The University accorded recognition to the College for preparing students for its Intermediate Examination (Commerce Group). Enrolment of the first batch of students was made on the first floor of a Hall opposite the St. James Church at Kashmere Gate. Classes started with 12 students and four faculty members from a hired bungalow at 8, Darya Ganj, New Delhi. In 1932, the College was upgraded to the status of a Degree College and started awarding its graduates the B.A. (Pass) (Commerce Group) Degrees of the University. The B.A. (Honours) (Commerce Group) Degrees were introduced in 1943. Closely on its heels, the same year saw the entry of M.A. (Economics), and in 1948 M.Com was introduced. In 1949, when the B.Com (Honours) Degree was instituted in the University of Delhi, teaching the course seemed to be natural task of the College. The B.A. (Honours) Economics was introduced in 1958. In 1951, on its Silver Jubilee, the College decided to convert itself into a College specialising in Commerce and Economics, and also gave itself the present name in recognition of the contribution made by its founder Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).

  • INFRASTRUCTURE Class Rooms & Tutorials SRCC is the only college in the University of Delhi who has upgraded its class rooms to facilitate teaching through modern gadgets by shifting from traditional style of teaching. All the classrooms and tutorial rooms in the college are fully air-conditioned. The class-rooms have been upgraded with ceiling-mounted LCD projectors, roll-down screens, green boards and podium for faculty. With the main building of the college being recognised by the Government of Delhi as a Heritage Building , the class-rooms ambience has retained the heritage look with the vintage teak furniture.   • Computer Centres The College has two well-equipped Computer Centers. Both the centers are provided with 40 computers, each with updated software and hardware. Internet facilities are provided in each computer. Printing and scanning facilities are also available with each computer through network. Each center is equipped with uninterrupted power backup. The teaching of IT and computer related papers are imparted through LCD in the computer centers. In addition, the computer centers are also available for the students for accessing internet, practice and preparing their projects. Internet with more than 2 mbps data transfer rate is available. There is a big mess and common room in both the hostels. The messes are run on co-operative basis. The college has outsourced on-campus laundry services for the resident students.   • Admission Policy St. Xavier s College Autonomous, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, runs BA, BSc, and BCom Government Aided Degree Courses on Campus. Admissions to most degree courses, except those explicitly specified (the BMM and BMS), are done on the basis of the overall percentage of Marks scored in the Qualifying Examination. If the Qualifying Examination awards Grades, these are converted into percentages according to a scale provided by the University of Mumbai. The College is a Catholic Minority College, administered under the Provisions of the Indian Constitution, to promote the welfare of the Minority community and to extend its services to all other communities in India, so as to contribute to the harmony and integration of Indian society. 50% of seats are reserved for Catholic Minority students.   • Infrastructure The college building was constructed in 1941. It is a Gothic structure with a clock tower. It is located in the central part of the city between Dadar T.T. and Matunga C.R. providing convenient access for Central and Western railway commuters as well as commuters of road transport. The campus has an area of apprx.0.62 acres (2500 sq.mtrs.) and the built in area is 5055 sq.mtrs. The building is in the shape of an inverted T. The infrastructure supports the conduct of various academic programmes run by the College. The rooms are made available for the conduct of lectures. The facilities available with respect to the electronic and audio visual devices also support the conduct of academic programmes in an appropriate manner. The reading hall with a capacity of four hundred students adequately supports the academic requirements of the students.
