WHO ARE YOU?

You are aware of global issues and you are fascinated by languages, people and other cultures. Being an open-minded but critical thinker, you easily adapt to ever-changing environments. Those passions and quali-ties will lead you to a successful career in an international company or abroad.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN?

You understand that communication skills are more important than ever. You cannot wait to develop them in courses like ‘Inter-cultural Communication Skills’ and ‘Inter-national Business English’. Furthermore, you want to expand your knowledge of Business Basics and discover the inner workings of Process and Project Manage-ment.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BECOME?

Very soon you will be the one who keeps the business running in international com-panies and organisations. As a multilingual office manager you implement and coor-dinate new media strategies. You know how to manage complex problems and optimise procedures and processes.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

International practiceTheory is good, but practice is better! We certainly know how to inspire you: you can expect an internship abroad in your final semester, innumerable company visits and guest lectures, ground-breaking study trips abroad and internationally oriented cases.

International cooperationsArtevelde University of Applied Sciences has a broad network of partner institu-tions in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. That leads to interesting and enriching en-counters: each year, we welcome students from all over the world in our international semester programmes. You will collaborate with them on cases and projects.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES

A natural born linguist? Then you should really consider this programme! You will learn to communicate professionnally in English and in two other foreign languages. Choose between German, Spanish, French and Chinese. Or take another foreign lan-guage course of your choice at an external accredited institution.

Do I need to be fluent in English?Since International Office Management is taught entirely in English, you can only start this programme when you have suffi-cient mastery of the language. You can attest your level via one of our language screenings, or with a certificate of one of our approved language skills tests.

And what about other languages? You need a basic level of French. For all other foreign languages you do not need any specific prior knowledge, just a keen interest and a can-do attitude.

IT IS THE KEY

In an ever changing digital world, it is crucial to know how to deal with the latest infor-mation and media tools. Working in the cloud, starting up e-commerce, digital bookkeeping or even developing a basic website: it will all be part of your study track. You do not need to become a com-puter expert. However, being passionate about social media and creative digital and Office software gives you a great head start. After all, those topics are the main ingredients of many courses in your Inter-national Office Management programme.

You learn to draw up marketing and communication plans, practise specific skills and much more.

FIRST YEAR: PRACTICAL PROJECT

You work on a practical project in collabo-ration with an international company or organisation of your choice.

SECOND YEAR: GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

Join one of the study trips organised by lectures. You can even design your own study trip to a destination of your own choice. Participate in a summer school anywhere in the world or explore the pro-ject of your dreams.

THIRD YEAR: FINAL INTERNSHIP

Your final internship takes you abroad for no less than three and a half months. Be prepared for a unique and enriching expe-rience! And who knows, maybe a brilliant international career.

The world is your playground

UNIQUE INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

An international focus inspires all our courses. A one-week study trip abroad takes you to internationally acclaimed organisations and companies.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT

In your third year, you will get the chance to spend one term of study in a foreign country at one of our worldwide partner institutions. We also strongly recommend doing your internship abroad in the sec-ond semester. Broaden your horizon and go to Kuala Lumpur, Miami or Beijing. International students can choose between going abroad or continuing their foreign experience in Belgium.

“ I came to Belgium to do my last year of high school through an exchange programme. I instantly fell in love with the city of Ghent and I heard about the Bachelor of International Office Management. So one year later I was back, ready to start my first year. I think I am very lucky to have so many open-minded people in my class. They have helped me since the very first day of school. Last year I volunteered to be a Student Ambassador for our programme. What I always tell people is that Ghent really is a great place if you want to live and study in a truly international environment.

DO NOT LOSE SIGHT OF NEW OPPORTUNITIES

My plans after graduation are still in the making, but there is a high chance that I will spend at least a year back in Argentina. I do not know yet what I want to do for a living. I believe that having a fixed idea of your future job can make you lose sight of new and different opportunities that might show up. But I do know that I want to work in an international environment. And I certainly will make good use of the languages I have learned!”

EXPLORE YOUR UNIQUE SKILLS

All students in the Bachelor of International Office Management excel in languages, ICT skills and general business and man-agement courses. But thanks to the elective courses in semesters 3, 4 and 5, you can still set yourself apart. So take the chance to expand your knowledge.

DEFINE YOUR OWN PRIORITIES

During your course of study, you will grad-ually add your own personal touch. Not only through graduation subjects or elec-tives, but also by collaborating on self- developed projects, participating in master classes and selecting your work placements.

MEET OUR FOREIGN FRIENDS

To guarantee you the best international study experience, we collaborate with universities of applied sciences, institutes of technology and university colleges in Europe, Canada, Aruba, Brazil and Asia. You can apply to study at one of these renowned institutes for a whole semester in your final year.

LEARN FROM PROFESSIONALS

Regularly, we step outside of the class-room to study business problems in their authentic setting, under the supportive wings of professional experts. Interesting cases, workshops, projects and internships will bring theory to life.

GO WITH A BANG

Your bachelor project will be the icing on the cake. Both your farewell salute to the International Office Management pro-gramme and your grand entry in the real working world. During a period of four months, you will manage a supervised consultancy assignment. Again, we strongly encourage you to do this project outside of Belgium, as this will most likely coin -cide with your international internship. Researching a corporate problem, coming up with innovative solutions and looking into possibilities for optimisation, will provide you with valuable insight into the workings of a corporation. Finally you will present the end result in front of a jury of specialists.

“ The possibility to combine Chinese, Spanish, economics and communication courses seemed pretty unique to me. It is also absolutely great that we get to spend at least one semester abroad. This is a big opportunity to meet people from all over the world and to broaden your horizon. It has always been my dream to study in China. And these days, every morning I wake up in Shanghai! At first, it was quite overwhelming — even a culture shock — but now I definitely have the time of my life.

EXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING

The people behind International Office Management understand very well how important it is to gain real-life practical knowledge. Especially the internships are inexhaustible sources of valuable experiences. In addition, I can hardly believe how much my language skills have improved in barely two years.”
