Leader: Tonight is a gift from God. Gathered on the eve of a milestone, we offer to God what we have to give—ourselves and the stirrings of our hearts and minds. Let us hear tonight what God will speak,

People: for God will speak peace to the people, to the faithful, to those who turn in their hearts to God.

Leader: Surely salvation is at hand for those who fear God, that God’s glory may dwell in our land.

People: Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.

Leader: Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky.

People: The Lord will give what is good.

Leader: O Lord, open our eyes,

People: that we may see the beauty of goodness.

Leader: O Lord, open our ears,

People: that we may hear the truth.

Leader: O Lord, open our lips,

People: that we may show forth your praise.

Together: Amen

Leader: Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.

People: How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.

For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

Together: O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!

Leader: Before you were even formed, God knew you. While in your mother’s womb, God named you. At your birth, God’s breath filled you with life. Tonight we celebrate what you have become at this moment in time. And so we pray for God’s blessing on your life.

Reader 1: May the Father of Life pour out divine grace on you; may you feel God’s hand in everything you do and be strengthened by the things God brings to you; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 2: May the Son of God be Lord in all your ways; may Jesus be your shepherd through all your days, and in your heart may he receive the praise; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 3: May the Spirit of God comfort you and make you strong, may the fullness of God’s grace be spread through you to all around, breaking down the walls that separate us and uniting us in the bonds of God’s love; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 4: May God give you faith so that in leaving this place you know firmly and with conviction who made you, and why, and for what purpose; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 5: May God give you peace, a lasting peace that dwells in your heart and enables you to comprehend the breadth and length, the height and depth of Christ’s love for you; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 6: May God give you leisure, times for refreshment in the course of this busy life, moments to rebuild your body and renew your mind, that your spirit may be open to the goodness of God’s creation; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 7: May God grant you a quiet confidence, periods of solitude to restore your strength, seasons of stillness to know that God is God; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 8: May God grant you a spirit of service, intervals in life where your life connects with the needs of others, the dedication to be used, as God wills, for the welfare of all; this is our prayer for you.

Reader 9: And one day soon may God return you to us so we may again rejoice in your goodness, and give thanks for our time together; this is our prayer for you.

Leader: Direct, O Lord, these your servants in all their doings, with your most gracious favor, and further them with your continual help; that in all their works begun, continued, and ended in you, they may glorify your holy name; grant them the Spirit of wisdom that in your light they may see light, and in your straight path they may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
