Rusk County 4-H Newsletter
March/April 2017
March 2017
Happy Spring!
We are beginning to plan for all the great 4-H summer events,
including overnight and day camp. I will also be teaching a
babysitting clinic in June. You will find information and regis-
tration forms in the newsletter. Also, please remember that
April 15 is the last day to add or change projects in 4H online
in order to exhibit them at the fair. I’m looking forward to
working with the camp counselors over the next couple of
months. We have many new counselors who I trust will work
hard to create an awesome camping experience for the young
people of Rusk County! Camp also requires a significant
amount of adult help. If you are willing and able to help,
please let me know. Here’s hoping that spring comes early to
northern Wisconsin!
All my best,
Cory

MUSIC AND MEMORY
Do you love music?
4-H has been asked to partner with the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Rusk County
to offer a music and memory program for local adults with memory problems. Youth are
needed to act as “music detectives” to identify and download music to create an individual-
ized playlist for participants. Youth will be paired with an adult in the county that has de-
mentia. You will then work with this person and caregiver to fill an iPod with beloved music.
Familiar music can often calm a person with dementia’s chaotic brain, which helps improve
their quality of life. Through involvement with this program, youth will develop empathy
and experience satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.
Congrats to Cassie Emmons
who was awarded a $250.00
grant from Tractor Central! Cas-
sie plans to use the money for
purchasing tack for her horse.
