I. Introduction
The purpose of the “BA Appraise : A Knowledge Assessment ® ” (BA Appraise ® ) is to evaluate an individual’s knowledge and skills related to business analysis best practices. The assessment examines the individual’s knowledge and skills, related to the best practices in business analysis as determined by ESI and the business analysis knowledge areas of the International Institute of Business Analysis's (IIBA ® ) A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK ® Guide) . The individual assessment results are then used to identify overall organizational needs and priorities for targeted improvement in business analysis performance. ESI administered the assessment, including access management, registration, access, and results reporting, for EDELWEISS.
The purpose of this report is to provide an overall performance summary of the BA Appraise ® assessment along with a set of ESI business analysis training recommendations and priorities. The recommendations presented herein are designed to provide optimum return and improvement in business results.
3 participants from EDELWEISS completed the assessment.
II. Overview of BA Appraise ®
ESI’s BA Appraise ® is an 80-question, multiple-choice online assessment that examines an individual’s knowledge in business analysis best practices and BABOK ® Guide knowledge areas. Upon completion of the BA Appraise ® assessment, individuals receive a Results Summary through e-mail that reports their performance against business analysis best practices and BABOK ® Guide knowledge areas. The Results Summary also provides guidance and recommendations to help individuals develop a training plan to remediate any knowledge gaps.
This BA Appraise ® report has been developed specifically for EDELWEISS to assess the individuals' assessment results collectively to ensure EDELWEISS chooses the appropriate path for further development of organizational knowledge and skills in business analysis. The results analyzed in this report are intended to provide an overall performance summary against business analysis best practices and BABOK ® Guide knowledge areas. This organizational summary will ensure EDELWEISS selects the appropriate remediation steps—including training and professional services—that will optimize return on investment and improvement in business results.

II-a. Business Analysis Best Practices
The business analysis best practices used in this report to examine organizational and individual knowledge and skills were identified by ESI subject matter experts. These best practices represent the key business analysis activities that are applicable to most projects regardless of industry. Although the degree to which each best practice is performed may vary based on organization, project complexity, risk, or other factors, a successful business analyst should be aware of and know how to perform each best practice. The best practices correspond to the six basic phases of business analysis: analyze the enterprise, define vision and scope, plan requirements, elicit requirements, analyze and document requirements, and assess and validate requirements.

II-b. BABOK ® Guide Knowledge Areas
The BABOK ® Guide is an internationally recognized standard for business analysis. This report examines organizational and individual knowledge and skills against the knowledge areas identified in the second version of the BABOK ® Guide . The IIBA ® also addresses underlying competencies as a knowledge area that should be developed for business analysts. The knowledge areas, including the underlying competencies area, are described below:
Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring : This area covers planning how business analysts elicit, monitor, manage, validate, and verify requirements . The area includes stakeholder identification and selecting the approach that will be taken for business analysis.
•
Elicitation : This area describes how business analysts gather requirements, including the identification of and preparation for the techniques that will be performed for elicitation . The area also describes how the elicitation results should be confirmed with stakeholders.
•
Requirements Management and Communication : This area describes how business analysts manage changes to requirements and how requirements should be communicated to stakeholders.
•
Enterprise Analysis : This area describes how business analysts identify the business need and the solution scope for responding to the business need. This area includes feasibility studies and identifying the drivers behind the solution.

IV. Prioritization of Group Training Needs
The following tables map the results from the BA Appraise ® assessment to ESI’s core business analysis curriculum and other courses. The numbers in the tables indicate the average percentage of correct scores from the group results, which relate to the content of the courses in ESI curricula. This information can be used to prioritize the rollout of customized ESI courses for employees at EDELWEISS.
The tables should be interpreted by focusing on the lower percentages: the lower the percentage shown in the tables, then the higher the need for training in that particular area. If the results show an overall weakness against business analysis best practices or BABOK ® Guide knowledge areas, the first recommended course is Foundations of Business Analysis because this course includes the fundamentals of business analysis across all best practices and knowledge areas.
