GIVING YOU A BUSINESS EDGE

In a flat economy, it’s more important than ever to make new contacts and find new solutions that will give you a business edge. As a region, Norfolk has a great deal to offer – it’s full of innovation and our B2B shows are an opportunity for everyone in business to showcase their products, services and ideas.

That’s why B2B is Norfolk’s largest business exhibition, because it is a platform that brings together the business community with the specific aim of encouraging us to communicate, share and strengthen our offering as a region.

We are committed to ensuring that each B2B exhibition is relevant, topical and can offer practical business solutions. We are holding three free workshops at the Autumn event, each one designed to help businesses to improve their skills in key areas – Marketing & PR, Social Media, and Starting & Growing a Small Business.

Whatever your line of business, B2B has something to offer. The show is divided into seven, themed business zones, so you can find just what you’re looking for and maximise your time here. Make a day of it; the show is held on two floors, with around 70 stands and there are plenty of special event-only offers and promotions not to be missed. Plus, the networking opportunities are superb – at B2B you will meet old friends and make some excellent new connections as well.

If you want a real commercial advantage, then don’t miss B2B.

We look forward to seeing you at the event

Jonathan Wills

We are delighted to welcome back Jonathan Wills as event host. Jonathan is a familiar face

on local television as part of the Anglia Tonight team. He is a former Royal Television Society Regional Sports Presenter of The Year. After progressing into news, Jonathan’s toughest assignment was as one of the first reporters on the scene at Kings Cross following the terrorist bombing.

Davina Tanner has been General Manager of Chapelfield Shopping Centre since 2008 and in that time she and her team have helped to cement Norwich’s reputation as one of the UK’s top ten shopping

destinations. Davina describes herself as a ‘businesswoman first’; but her sense of corporate and community responsibility has manifested itself in a variety of ways since she joined the Chapelfield team and moved to Norfolk.

Davina developed the award-winning Chapelfield Custody and Community Project, in partnership with HMP Norwich, which provides work experience and permanent job opportunities for serving prisoners. She is Chair of the regional Retail Skills Academy, working with City College Norwich, and has recently been appointed as a Board Member on the New Anglia LEP. In October she became President of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

“The Norfolk Chamber B2B exhibition is extremely important to the Norfolk business community. It is a forum where best practice and experience can be shared, deals can be done and the incredible amount of expertise, innovation and experience we have here in Norfolk can be showcased. In addition, the event provides an invaluable networking opportunity for busy business people.”

Business Link is a government funded service designed to promote enterprise and to help, support and advise those growing a business or just starting out. Our support is independent, impartial and most services are free of charge.Business Link currently operates a model of support summarised as information, diagnosis and brokerage. In Norfolk, the regional service also provides face to face advice and subject specific workshops. At the end of 2011, these local services will end, to be replaced with a combination of commercial services and volunteer mentor support. The Business Link website, however, will continue and develop. Already a comprehensive and reliable source of business information and advice, the website will increasingly be the place to go when commencing a search for a solution to a business issue. The website will be supported by a national telephone call centre. In addition to Business Link services, there are many individuals and organisations seeking

to help and advise Norfolk businesses. The list is too long to include here, and more are appearing as 2011 progresses. Your local Council website, the Norfolk Chamber website and www.newanglia.co.uk are good places to look for local services. If you would like to know more about Business Link please go to www.businesslink.gov.uk, Tel: 0845 17 16 15, or call me on 07717 506620.David Martin, Partnership Director for Norfolk

The Executive MBA programme at UEA’s Norwich Business School allows you to gain the world’s most recognised prestigious business qualification, while working in your current job. Taught in the evenings and at weekends, the 27-month course provides in-depth study of current best practice in the core areas of managing a business.

Modules, including those in Customer Focus and Innovation, Finance and Accounting, Strategy and Entrepreneurship, are taught by a team of leading academics and external practitioners. Through the Management Consultancy Skills module, there is a strong focus on developing a set of personal skills, encouraging the students to see themselves as a potential catalyst for change within organisations.

The opportunity exists to test these skills during a placement week in Prague, where students work in small teams with client companies on strategic projects. For any business professional with the ambition for senior management, an MBA can prove an invaluable asset.

Julian Campbell, Executive MBA Course Leader, Norwich Business School

We are delighted that some of the region’s leading organisations have chosen to support B2B Autumn 2011 by sponsoring the show’s seven business zones.

10 MOVING YOUR BUSINESS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WWW.B2B11.CO.UK

The internet is the fastest growing advertising medium in the UK, allowing businesses to reach an increasingly large audience locally, across the UK and elsewhere. With more and more people turning to the web to buy and sell, online classified plays a key role for any business when planning their advertising budget. They understand that spending large sums of money building a website only pays if they can attract people to it.

That is why the number of local businesses advertising on Archant’s online Local Business Directory, LOCAL SEARCH 24, is rapidly growing. This service offers businesses a platform to promote themselves at an affordable cost to a growing number of people who are turning to the internet to find products and services.

For more information, go to www.localsearch24.co.uk or visit our stand at the B2B exhibition.

Clean Energy Consultancy specialises in providing independent and impartial advice to businesses who are interested in renewables technologies. Our consultancy services cover all aspects of renewables, including solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, biomass heating, heat pumps and liquid biofuel. With energy costs increasing, prudent businesses are switching to renewables. The savings are two fold; first, energy spend with the main supplier is reduced and secondly, businesses can earn an income from the feed in tariff or renewable heat incentive schemes.

Clean Energy Consultancy is sponsoring the Resource & Efficiency zone to give the business community the opportunity to speak to them informally and find out how renewables can be successfully incorporated into their business operations. A lot of companies are installing renewables and we can help clients consider all the options, rather than being focussed on just one. The end result is that the business can make an easy and informed

decision based on independent and impartial advice and invest in the renewable solution which best meets their requirements in terms of return on investment and reduction in carbon footprint.

Norse Commercial Services is delighted to be sponsoring the Property & Construction Zone once again at Norfolk Chamber of Commerce’s Autumn 2011 B2B Exhibition.

Norse firmly believes that well-cared-for properties – from commercial offices, business premises and hospitals to schools, civic buildings and social housing – help to create better and healthier communities for us all. Our approach to maintaining facilities has seen us grow into a £120m company, with growth of over £20m in the last year alone; ensuring both further employment and investment in Norfolk.

Our Service Engineers, exhibiting at the event, maintain many of Norfolk’s public buildings; ensuring that boilers are serviced, and catering equipment is working at its best. They also work in the domestic market, in social housing and for private clients; keeping people warm in the winter months.

Norse is extremely proud of its role as a major player in the Norfolk business community and is confident that this B2B Exhibition will be a great success.
