COMMUNICATING WITH MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

In this section you will learn the basics of creating PowerPoint presentations.

With PowerPoint you can create:

On-screen presentations 35mm slides or

overheads Speaker's notes, outline

Page 5: B USINESS C OMPUTER A PPLICATION Eyad M. AlMassri BGMS4101 Introduction 1

COMMUNICATING WITH MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

You can project your PowerPoint presentation onto a lecture theater screen directly from a computer.

5

Page 6: B USINESS C OMPUTER A PPLICATION Eyad M. AlMassri BGMS4101 Introduction 1

COMMUNICATING WITH MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

You can create 35mm slides or overheads for presenting your ideas. You can print your slides to overhead transparencies if you do not have a data projector available.

6

Page 7: B USINESS C OMPUTER A PPLICATION Eyad M. AlMassri BGMS4101 Introduction 1

COMMUNICATING WITH MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

You can print handouts to help your audience follow your presentation.

You can choose to print one, three or six slides per page, with or without additional notes, depending on how much detail you would like to provide.

You can also print speakers notes to help you deliver your presentations

Page 8: B USINESS C OMPUTER A PPLICATION Eyad M. AlMassri BGMS4101 Introduction 1

COMMUNICATING WITH MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

PowerPoint can help you be prepared and confident in the quality of your presentation. PowerPoint gives you an environment in which to outline your thoughts, turn those thoughts into slides, and then add interesting visuals to amuse and inform your audience. Often a picture can be used to convey ideas or information quickly and effectively to your audience.

The AutoContent Wizard

The Wizard helps you with the structure and the layout of the presentation. It will step you through the process of creating a presentation based on any of the 23 preset presentation types.

Start from scratch PowerPoint also gives

you the choice to create your own background and design your own layouts. This gives you the greatest flexibility but requires more time and effort.

WHY BOTHER LEARNING PPT?

Is it just a glorified word processor?

yes, but…

PPT (and other similar software titles)ISN’T (aren’t) JUST FOR MANAGING TEXT

to use Microsoft’s jargon:

“you can easily organize, powerfully illustrate, and professionally deliver your ideas”; PPT gives you “the tools you need to communicate with impact”

found somewhere on the Microsoft.com website 15

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A PPT file = a sequence of “slides” screens with text and/or multimedia content each associated with an outline (generated

automatically) and notes (generated by author)

Multi-panel user interface workspace (slide) outline or thumbnails of slides notes scrollbars, menus, toolbars

PUBLISHING POWERPOINT ON THE WEB

PowerPoint allows you to save your presentations in HTML format so it can be published on the World Wide Web. Each slide in your presentation is saved as a separate HTML file, and navigation buttons are automatically added so that the user can easily move from one slide to the next. The only drawback is all the fancy transitions, movies and sounds that you may have added to your presentation in PowerPoint will not be a part of your 34
