A town in Randolph County 3 miles from the Georgia/
Alabama line 18.8 square miles long Population of 6,660
ROANOKE THE COMMUNITY
Filled with pastures and private land Downtown area is the town center
Offices, shops, and cafés border the street Houses vary throughout the town
Victorian houses closer to the historic downtown area Modern homes in subdivisions Trailers in the rural area
4 public schools Ranging K-12
HEALTHY PEOPLE 2020 OBJECTIVE AND TARGET POPULATION
C-17 “Increase the proportion of women who receive a breast cancer screening based on the most recent guidelines” having a mammogram every 1-2 years for
women aged 40 and older recommended by American Cancer Society (ACS) and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG)
Target Population is women aged 40 and older in Roanoke, Al
Annual diagnosis of breast cancer is 14 citizens for Randolph County
NURSING DIAGNOSES 1) Risk of stage II breast cancer, 2) Among
Women age 40 and older in Roanoke, 3) Related to inadequate access to health care facilities which offer breast cancer screening.
1) Risk of metastatic breast cancer, 2) Among Women age 40 and older in Roanoke, 3) Related to incomprehensive breast cancer screenings at the local health care facilities.
1) Risk of failure to obtain yearly mammograms, 2) Among Women age 40 and older in Roanoke, 3)Related to insufficient funds secondary to high unemployment rate.
INTERVENTIONS
Advertising the Free mammogram program offered in Alabama
Educating women on their specific risk factors
Educating on overlooked signs and symptoms Breast dimpling and nipple discharge
Demonstrating self-breast exam to women of all ages Especially for women from 20-40
