Dear Alert,Times of change

How wonderful it was when I was a child, lots of trees, flowers, bees, butterflies and many birds living freely with plenty of wild life about.

Now with modern farming and moredevelopment it has taken a toll on wildlife asthey are losing their habitat. The big issue is many trees and hedges are beingcut down. Birds need these hedges for nestingand they will not grow tall enough this year forthe birds to nest in.There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong withthe trees and hedges being cut down; in factsome of the trees being cut are mature trees andthese will not grow back again. The trees and hedges I am writing about are onHand Avenue and surrounding areas, and itlooks a mess at the moment. Please save our wildlife for future generations.

Miss P Jackson

Dear Alert,Myself and my family thoroughly enjoyed theAwards ceremony held at the West End WorkingMen’s Club on the 27th March.I was very surprised, and proud, to have beenchosen out of so many nominees to receive anaward in the ‘Services to the Community -Individual’ category. After becoming unemployed, I started going tothe Job Club held at the BRITE Centre run byb-working. With everybody’s help, support and encouragement, I have grown intothe confident person I now am and this hasenabled me to secure a job as a care worker.George
