Banish bad hair days with bandanas. Try braided, twisted or any other style you can dream up. Tip: Since bandana fabric has no give, use strips of elastic (it comes in tons of colors and prints) for just the right amount of stretch and a snug fit.

A canvas bag is the perfect...well, canvas for showcasing your DIY personality. Tear strips from a variety of bandanas (tear-ing gives you naturally frayed edges), and stitch them to a piece of fabric. Then sew the whole piece to the edges of the bag.

Whipping up a PB&J can get messy, so protect her duds with a DIY’d apron fit for a head chef. We cut three inches off one corner of a bandana (this became the top) and added a ribbon neck strap, pompom trim and a pocket.

Custom table linens? You bet your boots! Trim the white bandana to 18" x 18", and place it in the center of a colored bandana (hemmed ½" on all sides). Fold the edges of the colored bandana in, and press (you can miter the corners for a professional look). Finish with pompom trim.

Take jeans and a t-shirt from lifeless to life-of-the-party—all it takes is a trim-decked bandana scarf. Sew bandanas together for the base (the pink is a square, and the blue is a loop), and add trim to the edges.

Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves —we prefer ours on our bags. Especially when we can use up leftover bandana scraps. We stitched a bandana heart onto a handmade faux-leather keychain and added a jeweled monogram for extra style points.

Bandanas are abloom on this front-door feature. Simply cut 1 ½" bandana strips, and roll them into rosettes, gluing as you roll to secure the shape. Then adhere them to a foam wreath form (ours is 16"). We used six bandanas of each color for this fullness.

Linen bandanas helped soften up this reading nook—they’re the stars of the front two pillows. They’re stenciled, trimmed to size, bordered with bandana fabric, and stitched into bands. And the pillow peeking out from behind was made from two bandanas stitched right sides together.

frilled to pieces

Cost-effective party favors, coming right up! We made these treat bags out of two 4 ½" x 6 ½" pieces sewn together, so one bandana will make a few bags. Note: After sewing, fold the top down ¼" and sew to accommodate twine for tying.

She’s frilly and she knows it—so DIY her a tutu to twirl for. Knot strips of bandana to a length of elastic that will fit around her waist, and she’s recital ready. To complete the ensemble, iron a fusible web-backed bandana letter to a shirt.
