Week 8 next week and we are all working together, learning, and participating in so many activities, the Blue Mountains Nepean Dance Festival, Life Education, and the athletics carnivals. The staff at Orchard Hills Public School are also participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge by tracking our steps, doing fitness together after school and eating healthy foods (most of the time). Next week we have the Swimming Scheme for 2 weeks in the afternoon session, this is a great opportunity for students to learn water safety and swimming skills.
Blue Mountains Nepean Dance Festival I would like to congratulate both the junior and senior dance groups on their amazing performances at The Joan this week. I was privileged enough to be a part of the audience. I was so proud of every student and could see the time and dedication that was put in by member of the dance group to make a flawless performance. A huge thanks to Mrs Hawes, Miss Hope and Miss Peterson for all their assistance during the day and night and volunteering their time so the students of Orchard Hills could participate in this concert.
ICAS Tests This year the ICAS Tests will be done online. Today students participated in the Science assessment. The English assessment will be on Wednesday 18 September and Mathematics will be on Friday 20 September.

Payments for camps and excursions This is just a reminder to all parents/carers that final payments needs to be paid by the due date, this assists the school with making payment on time and ensuring all bookings are processed in a timely manner. If there any reasons why a payment cannot be made, it is important to let me know 7 days prior to the event so we can discuss possibilities such as a payment plan. If you are unable to contact the school or myself 7 days prior, your child may not be able to attend the camp or excursion. Opal Cards – Additional Bus Services This is just a reminder to all parents/carers that live in the Claremont Meadows/Caddens area to apply for a school travel pass for their child/children as this may assist in having additional bus services to our school. Please see the details below to assist with this: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-school-travel-pass Opal pass data is essential to planning, identifying growth and adds leverage to any request for services.
Community Grants Over the past few weeks our school has received information regarding grants that we can apply for to assist with school infrastructure and improve our playground. I have already spoken to some parents and discussed items such as a COLA over the basketball court, undercover walkways and possibly fencing. If you have any other suggestions please contact the office or come and see myself. Have a great week!

P & C News
The P&C had a wonderful time helping students choose gifts for their fathers. We hope they en-joyed receiving them too. We would love to welcome more parents and community members to our P&C meetings. Helping with sausage sizzles, colour runs, grandparents day and many more activities is a great way to involve yourself in your child’s learning and with the whole school community. Thank you to our wonderful canteen volunteers who make healthy lunches and snacks for our children. Without these volunteers our canteen would not be able to open. The children love seeing their family behind the counter serving their friends. What a great way of getting to know our school. If you would like to volunteer the canteen is open Tuesdays and Thursdays till 11.30am. Our next meeting is Tuesday 10 September at 7.30pm in the staff room. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Student banking is every Tuesday. If you bank each week for 10 weeks continuously the CBA donates $5 to the school!! Keep up the great banking.
