axis
Axis designs and builds the most advanced full fl ight simulators on the market today. We are business people, engineers, software developers, pilots – people who are enthusiastic about fl ying. We are a private company, owned by likeminded shareholders committed to building a long-term future.
This leaves free to do what we do best, namely build simulators that are more thoughtfully conceived, better designed, more innovative, and more economical to operate than anything else out there today.
3
Quality in every dimension
At Axis, quality is a given. We design and build our simulators in Austria under constant quality assurance, and it goes without saying that our processes are certified to ISO 9001-2008. The highest standard is second nature to us, from conception, through design, to materials, to build quality and particularly to simulation fidelity.
innovation at every turn
As engineers, we always ask ourselves if there is a better way. And very often there is. Thus, instead of a forest of cables, our simulators use just a few I/O buses. Instead of many computers, they need only a couple. We developed our own control loading system for higher fidelity and lower power consumption. Our Smart Panels replicate the functions and appearance of original instruments, but cost less and are much more durable. The list could go on. As an innovative technology company, we create new approaches that make simulators more realistic, more reliable, easier to operate, and more economical - and thus more profitable to own and run.

maximum availability
One of our design focus areas is maintenance. For some it is an afterthought; to us, it is key to mission availability and to high return on investment. Reducing the maintenance required, making what remains easier to do, and minimizing the potential for unplanned downtime all help make operations more profitable for our users. Our modular architecture simplifies repairs and replacements, and our hardware is designed for long life. We build self-testing and self-monitoring into our systems, so that maintenance is preventative rather than reactive. That means much less unexpected downtime and more satisfied customers.
your Partner
We build simulators to your requirements, not to ours. We are fully focused on your needs, and your requirements are always our first priority. We’re in the business of listening to you, optimizing our simulators to make your business of training simpler, seamless and more profitable. Whether in supplying you with simulators, supporting the development of training infrastructure or integrating training syllabi to your needs, Axis is there for you.

as realistic as it gets
Sight, sound and sensation - if it can be simulated, our simulators do. Environment, ambient sound, radio and NAV audio, weather, traffi c, ATC, TCAS, TAWS, aerodynamics, ground handling, engine and aircraft systems, smoke, oxygen systems, fl exible malfunction simulations – you name it, we do it all.
The pilot sits in a 100% cockpit replication and looks at 100% simulated or stimulated instruments, at your election. The view outside is provided by a new-generation 200° x 40° collimated vision system, with the latest solid state LED DLP projectors. It’s driven by a high performance image generator with realtime software, providing the full range of atmospheric and weather conditions, including animation eff ects like dynamic environmental shadows, refl ections, smoke, drifting sand or snow and 3-D moving water textures. A 16 channel 3D sound system provides ultra-realistic sound, with ambient noise tuned to the level of the actual aircraft in operation. Axis’ own highly advanced modular electrical control load system and a 60” stroke 6-DOF electric motion base give highly realistic movement, with low power consumption and maintenance needs.
The result is a superior technology training experience that´s as realistic as it gets.

no surPrises
Pilots in training don’t have time for downtime. Unplanned inoperative conditions can be a tremendous drag on your business. We design maximum availability into the heart of our simulators, in three ways:
Minimizing maintenance. This is partly a matter of design, and partly a matter of high build quality. For example, instead of conventional instrument lamps, we use much longer-lasting LEDs. Thoughtful details such as this and our high quality standards mean the overall maintenance burden is low from the outset.
More expeditious maintenance and repairs. Our hardware and software is modular, so replacements are straightforward. A Maintenance Station information panel shows system status and error sources in the event of a fault. Fault messages can also be sent via SMS. Circuits are readily accessible, and our bus and panel design means that instruments are straightforward to exchange.
Self-monitoring for preemptive maintenance. It is always better to prevent faults from occurring in the first place. Our simulators do that themselves through trend vectoring - they monitor system performance to detect when individual components begin to near the end of their service lives, and inform you online or onboard. This means that you know ahead of time when components need replacement, and can do so at a time of your convenience. It also means you can order parts on an as-needed basis, instead of keeping a large stock on hand. As a result, we have been able to reduce the chance of unplanned downtime to an absolute minimum. You maximize your billable time, minimize your costs for upkeep, and gain and keep satisfied customers.

When you need support, we are there. It’s as simple as that. Our entire focus is on you, our customer.
We provide support 24/7/365, on-site, online, or by phone. Since we design and build our systems ourselves, we know them backwards and forwards and can ensure factory design and manufacturing experienced support, anytime, anywhere. We wrote the software, so we don’t have to go ask a third party and “get back to you”; we can provide answers quickly. We will train your maintenance crew, and work with you to draw up maintenance agreements and documentation such as parts lists that meet your specifi c needs. We also create a support team for each customer, so you always have contact people who are familiar with your setup and surroundings.

making your job easier
Our simulators’ Instructor Operating Station sets a new standard in comfort and convenience. Instead of switches and buttons, you control the entire ambient simulator environment and all operations from a 24” seat-mounted, height-adjustable TFT touchscreen. Its intuitive graphic user interface is simple to operate and easy to configure to your specific preferences. The roomy station also provides plenty of room to work and move, and ample space for items such as documents. An online session planning tool makes session planning dramatically easier, by letting you plan sessions from anywhere, at your convenience.
Preparing for training sessions is easier in other ways as well. Each morning, the simulator automatically conducts self-testing. If it detects an issue, it informs your maintenance personnel, for example by text message, so that problems can be dealt with before the start of the day’s operations. In addition, since all sensors for testing are permanently installed in the simulator, it can run almost all annual re-qualification tests automatically, and generate completed eQTG documents that you can simply print out and submit directly to authorities.

the elegance of innovation
In engineering, the combination of effi ciency, functionality, reliability, strength and cost-eff ectiveness is often called “elegant,” and that is how we design our simulators. This involves many innovations that reduce complexity while enhancing performance.
Our I/O system design is modular and scalable, so that simulators can be confi gured faster and easier. There is just one type of I/O board, with one type of plug-in extension cards. There is a single software tool for all hardware management. We use fewer cables and fewer computers, for a simulator that is more effi cient, more stable in operation, and easier to work with at every level.
Our Smart Panels provide customers the choice of simulated or stimulated instruments that replicate the look and feel of actual instruments, but are signifi cantly more cost eff ective and maintenance effi cient. Yet with our modular approach, customers can also use real instruments where necessary or so desired. Our simulators are designed intelligently, and with intelligence designed in – for example to self-monitor and self-test automatically.
All of this and many other details result in simulators that are more effi cient, more available, and more user-friendly than anything else before.

better for Pilots, better for the environment
Flight simulation is in many ways better than actual fl ight training – emergency scenarios can be executed safely and extreme fl ight conditions can be “dialed in” at will. It blocks no airport slots. It is also inherently more environment-friendly, since it burns no fuel and generates no noise. With Axis, simulation is even more environment-friendly, since our simulators use less power than competitor simulators. Our motion base is fully electric, using substantially less power than hydraulic systems. Our effi cient IT design uses many fewer computers, for lower direct power use and also lower indirect power use for cooling.
