LEARNING OUTCOMES
Explain the technologies relevant to 3G networks including UMTS and WCDMA,Discuss Broadband Wireless Access implementation.Discuss the technologies of Mobile WiMAX compared to Cellular Mobile.Investigate how Mobile WiMAX is implemented, monitored, and maintained.
Case Study
The evolution of Wireless Broadband Access (WBA) technologies observes prominent development coming under the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards bodies. More importantly, the objective of achieving true 4 Generation technologies according to the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)-Advanced systems of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) have intensified. Conduct a thorough research and produce a comprehensive report emphasizing on the technical similarities and differences that one technology has over the other. Subsequently evaluate the basic hardware and software requirements to successfully implement either one of the standards. In addition, consider the non-technical factors of commercial and historical nature in your research. Finally, also look into and report on the current status of each technology to determine the latest updates.
Following your literature review on the theoretical aspects of both standards’ technology, proposed a scenario for either one of the standard’s technology where the implementation of the chosen technology is best suited for. Justify the implementation using information from the literature review. The report must include a diagram to represent the suggested implementation for the proposed scenario. Additional diagrams and figures are encouraged to substantiate and complement the facts included.

Explanatory notesPresentation: Each member is required to give a presentation on the work produced and knowledge gained. The student will be assessed based on: clarity of presentation, quality of presentation, and ability to handle questions posed. (10%)
Relevance of information in literature review: This includes the relevance, sufficient coverage (i.e. technicalities and depth), up-to-date, and coherence, of the facts presented. (12%)
Additional Diagrams and/or Figures: This includes any diagrammatic and pictorial representation of facts for illustration and complementary purpose. (12%)
Validity and Accuracy of proposed Scenario: This relates to the individual contribution towards the proposed common scenario. Information included to support the validity and accuracy of the proposed scenario with the chosen WBA technology. (15%)

Evaluation and Critical Analysis: This includes evaluation and analysis of facts/figures followed by results or recommendations of evaluation. (15%)
Progress Report and Workload Matrix: A bi-weekly progress report indicating the work-in-progress or completed tasks (i.e. using GANTT chart). This is to evaluate the time management and discipline of student in completing the assigned tasks. A list or table showing the tasks being assigned to every member of the team. Each member is required to sign-off to acknowledge their responsibilities and to fulfil them. (6%)
Accuracy of Diagrammatic representation: The overall diagram(s) included representing the information researched by all members. Clear and accurate illustration of facts and figures providing ease in understanding and comprehension of ideas and solutions. (10%)
Documentation: This includes the cover page, contents page, page numbering, headings, header, footer, and proper sequencing and flow. (10%)
Citations and References: This includes the quality of references used: research papers, articles, books, journals, trade press, etc. and more importantly the adoption of Harvard Referencing system for citations and referencing of all facts and diagrams used. (10%)
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
1. You are required to work within a group of not more than 4 members.
2. Maximum word count for entire report must not exceed 5000 words. This excludes
tables and figures.
3. Attach the marking scheme provided in the previous page as the cover page and enter
each member’s name accordingly.
4. As part of project management, you are required to develop a Gantt chart (project
plan) that indicates clearly the activities required in order for the project to be a
success.
5. The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports that
are unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganised, inconsistent look, varying
coloured paper and size) will not fair well when marks are allocated.
6. Ensure that the report is printed on standard A4 (210 X 297 mm) sized paper. Paper
weight of 80 grams and above is highly recommended.

8. Every report must have a front cover. A transparent plastic sheet can be placed in
front of the report to protect the front cover. The front cover should have the
following details:-
a) Name of group members.
b) Intake code.
c) Subject.
d) Project Title.
e) Date Assigned (the date the report was handed out).
f) Date Completed (the date the report is due to be handed in).
9. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) marks.
10. All information, figures and diagrams obtained from external sources must be
referenced using the Harvard referencing system accordingly.
*IMPORTANT*
You have to hand in your assignment hardcopy on time with the Course Work Submission
and Feed Back Form.
