    Aircraft Wireless LAN Unit (AWLU)

Teledyne completed development and certification of the AWLU for the 777 in early 2013

Our fifth generation wireless LAN solution

Specifically designed to meet Boeing specifications for line-fit equipment and to be managed by ONS

Replaces the WiFi only TWLU Option

Connectivity for Boeing 777 EFB and ONS

Boeing is planning certification on the 737NG in the first quarter of 2015, availability estimated 4Q15

AWLU is currently the only product including cellular and an ARINC 822 compatible WiFi option available in the marketplace

    Note: AWLU formerly named AirLAN

    Terminal Cellular Unit (TCU)

The TCU was launched in 2013 as a derivative of the AWLU to meet demand for Cellular on 787

Supplements existing WiFi communication for global connectivity outside of the limited Wi-Fi Networks

Rapid development met introduction of 787-9

Teledyne is currently the single source supplier of the TCU for the 787

    TCU Offerability

Currently offered as Customer Selected Equipment (CSE) through Boeing catalog

787-9 In Service All -9 airplanes are built with TCS space and wiring provisions

787-8 In Final Certification All -8 airplanes starting production line 210 are built with TCS

    space and wiring provisions installed

787-8 Retrofit - Boeing plans to issue Retrofit Service Bulletins

A Retrofit Service Bulletin is currently in development for installation and activation of TCU for one 787-8 airline customer.

    Configuration

AWLU configuration is contained in an Airline Modifiable Information (AMI) configuration LSAP

AMI is created using common Ground Based Software Tool (GBST)

AMI is loaded into ONS which, in turn, distributes to AWLU

Only one profile is provided to AWLU at a time

A default profile is supported, so additional profiles are created by exception

TCU configuration is also contained in AMI configuration LSAP

AMI is created using common Ground Based Software Tool (GBST)

AMI is loaded into CoreNet Terminal Cellular Manager (TCM), which distributes to TCU the set of profiles defines for the current airport

No default profile is supported, so a profile must be created for every airport at which an airplane might need to communicate

    Security

All the communication links established by the AWLU or TCU are considered to be insecure

So, a VPN is utilized by CoreNet/ONS to provide end to end data security

The TCU, as a 787 network system, underwent a rigorous security analysis

    SIM Management

The AWLU and TCU are both delivered without SIMs

TCU provides two (2) SIMs slots.

SIMs are installed by the customer after aircraft delivery

    SIMs may require geographical-licensed

Boeing provides a maintenance procedure to remove the unit, change the SIMs, and reinstall and test the unit

    Summary

While the AWLU and TCU have some minor differences in configuration and use, the general functions supported are more similar than different

While the hardware part numbers are different, the core hardware is identical

While the interfacing system is different (ONS vs CoreNet), the functionality provided is mostly the same

The AWLU and TCU provide the ubiquitous last mile wireless connectivity needed to more fully realize the benefits of Boeings e-enabled advantages
