Steve Irwin was a conservationist and TV personality. He was born in Australia in 1962. His parents opened Australia Zoo in 1971, and for his sixth birthday he received a very special present from them—a python! Steve studied at home and also learned how to catch crocodiles. Steve’s parents retired in 1991, and he started to manage the zoo. A year later he produced his first TV documentary, The Crocodile Hunter. Steve’s TV series was popular all over the world. Steve died in September 2006. He was killed by a stingray at the Great Barrier Reef in eastern Australia.
One last fact! Steve Irwin was a very brave man, but he was afraid of parrots! As he said, “Parrots are a lot of smarter than crocodiles!”

about 20 million dollars to participate in a
flight to the International Space Station in
2006. Anousheh went to Russia to train for
the flight. The spacecraft took off from the
Baikonur Cosmodrome on September 18,
2006. Because of the weightless atmosphere,
Anousheh slept in a sleeping bag on the wall.
She ate dried food and drank liquids through
a straw. She also did experiments. Every day
she saw 16 sunrises and sunsets! Finally,
after 10 days in space, Anousheh’s spacecraft
landed on Earth on September 29.

Last summer I went on a great school trip to Germany. First we took a train from London to Cologne: it took five and a half hours. After that we went down the Rhine Valley. Then we stayed in Freiberg, near the
Black Forest. The Black Forest was really cold! Finally we took the train back home. We were tired but really happy!

My grandmother by Constanza Aburto Villegas
My grandmother’s name is Maria del Carmen Rodriguez de Villegas. She was born in Malaga, Spain in 1934. She had two brothers. She was just a baby during the Spanish Civil War. After the war, her family emigrated to Mexico. They lived in Puebla and she went to school there. In 1954 she trained as a nurse and then met my grandfather. He was a doctor. They got married in 1959. They had three children, including my mother. Now she and my grandfather are retired and my grandmother looks after my grandfather and reads a lot. She’s also a very good cook.
I love her food.
