The Power Plant of the Company in
Odisha bagged the “National
Award for Excellence in Water
Management 2012” in the form of a
Shield and a Certificate as
“Excellent Water Efficient Unit”
from Confederation of Indian
Industry. This National award was
received by the Unit for the 2nd
consecutive year.
The 50 MW Power Plant (Unit-1) at
Paloncha completed one year of
uninterrupted operation on 16th
October with a plant load factor of
97%, despite several “island mode”
operations, mostly due to grid
disturbances. This is a remarkable
achievement of the O&M staff of
the Power Plant.
Projects - Domestic
The construction of 150 MW Power
Plant at Paloncha is progressing
briskly on all fronts and nearing
completion. The Unit is slated for
synchronisation by mid February,
2013.

The 60 km long 220 kV Double
Circuit transmission line from the
project site to the Sub-Station of
APTRANSCO at Budidampadu and
Switchyards were completed and
the line was energized. This
facilitates evacuation of power from
the 150 MW Power Plant at
Paloncha.
A new “Centrifugal Machine” was
installed at the Sugar Plant at
Samalkot to facilitate enhancement
of the capacity of the Plant to 4000
TCD. The Centrifugal Machines
help separation of sugar from
molasses.

Projects - Overseas
Training
The construction works of 2 X 150
MW Power Plant at Maamba,
Zambia, are going on in full swing.

Dr. Rangarajan, Sr. Asst.Director of
National Metallurgical Laboratory,
Jamshedpur, conducted one-day,
in-house workshop on “Basics of
ferro chrome production with
submerged electric arc furnace”
and "Thermo dynamic principle
and thermo chemistry of ferro
chrome production" at FAP(O), in
October.
Er. Amulya Kumar Patnaik, Training
faculty of IIPM, Kansbahal,
Rourkela, conducted a three-day,
in-house training programme on
“Legal & other requirements
under Indian Electricity Rules,
EC Act and BEE Books" to the
Core Committee members of
Energy Management System.
A training and development
programme on "Zero Budget
Farming" was conducted by
Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji for the
benefit of cane growing farmers, at
the Sugar Division, in November.
For the benefit of staff and their
family members, a programme on
“Peace & Happiness” was
organised by the Sugar Division,
with speakers from Brahma
Kumaris, in December.
Apart from the above, training programmes were conducted at Sugar Division on
“Compressed Air System & Steam Network System” with the help of Petroleum
Conservation & Research Association (PCRA), Visakhapatnam, in November.
Energy Conservation
Celebrations
To create awareness on the
importance of “Fuel Conser-
vation”, a programme was
organised at the Sugar Division,
with the help of PCRA, in
December, for the benefit of drivers
of trucks used for sugar cane
transport.
The "Chemical Disaster
Prevention Day" was observed on
4th December at the Odisha Works.
Awareness on how to prevent
chemical disasters was created
among the staff, on this occasion.
The "National Energy Conser-
vation Day" was observed on 14th
December at the Odisha Works.
Sri Pradipta Kumar Sahani, Sub-
Collector, Dhenkanal District, the
Chief Guest of the function,
distributed prizes to the winners
who participated in various
competitions.
Vocational Training
Education
The 5th batch of trainees of Nava
Bharat Vocational Institute at
Paloncha, completed their training
in November. Certificates were
awarded to the trainees by the
Chief Guest, Sri Bhaskar
Bhushan, IPS, Asst. Superintendent
of Police, Kothagudem, at a
function organised on this occasion.
Nava Bharat Public School at
Paloncha organized Mathematics
Exhibition and Charity Fair in the
school in December 2012, marking
the National Mathematical Year.
The Exhibition was formally
inaugurated by Sri A.Venkata Rao,
Executive Vice President, NBVL.
The Charity Fair showcased the
talents of the staff and students.
Nine students of Nava Bharat Public School (NBPS) from
Classes IX & X participated in Model UNO Conference,
organized by Hyderabad Public School, in October. Students
from 64 schools participated in this conference. Miss M. Jahnavi
of NBPS bagged the overall 3rd prize for her position paper
representing Iran.
The Management congratulates Miss Jahnavi for her
achievement!
Sports
The students of Nava Bharat Public
School at Paloncha went on an
educational tour to North India in
October. The students returned to
school with rich experience and
memories after visiting several sites
in Kulu Manali, Chandigarh, Delhi
and Agra in the nine-day trip.
Nava Bharat Schools at Paloncha celebrated the 34th Annual Sports Day on 8th December. Sri Bhaskar Bhushan, IPS, Asst. Superintendent of Police, Kothagudem, graced the function as Chief Guest and gave away prizes to winners.
Miss G. Vinoothna, VIII Class student of Nava Bharat Public School, bagged Silver medal in 400 meters event and Bronze medal in 200 meters event at CBSE Cluster VII Athletic Meet held at Tirupati, in November and got qualified for National Meet. The Management congratulates Miss Vinoothna for her
outstanding performance!
The students of Nava Bharat Public School (NBPS) at Paloncha participated in the 19th state
level cultural competitions at Balotsav organized by Kothagudem Club. A total of 13,000
students of 371 schools from 22 districts all over the state, participated in the competitions. The
students of NBPS bagged 17 prizes in various categories of events.

Farewell
As part of women empowerment
initiative under the ongoing
"Chaitanya Jyothi" programme,
training was imparted in stitching of
bags, preparation of household
items, etc.
Smt. P Raja Sree, Smt. Usha,
Smt. Neelima and Smt. Arunasree
awarded certificates to the trainees
at a function held at Sugar Division,
in November.
The Sugar Division donated Desks and Benches for use by the students of Jawaharlal Nehru
Municipal High School at Peddapuram, East Godavari district.
The following employees of FAP(AP) retired from the Company’s services after serving for a
long period.
