We aspire for students: To have an enthusiasm for learning To develop a broad and strong base of knowledge and skills To think and act with competence, objectivity and creativity Through their experience in living in a learning community, show respect and sensitiv- ity to others Show a capacity to lead, to share and cooperate with others To accept responsibility and discipline To find reward in participating and doing ones best PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Thursday May 24, 2018 Dear Parents, Education Week This is Education Week throughout Victoria. This year we have trialled an open morning for each of the grade levels. On Monday, many parents of Prep students visited, today the grade 3/4s will be open for visitors and to- morrow the grade 1/2s will have their open day. A book fair is running in the library all week, it will close at 3:45 Friday afternoon. We are giving increasing emphasis to creativity in our curriculum programs. Students are using the new music studio to play a variety of instruments and learn more about the elements of music: rhythm, pitch and tone. In the Art room, students use a variety of media to create art works. You can view student work in the school foyer or Art room. Fun Run The weather is looking promising to hold our fun run tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Students will run/walk around the oval with others in their grade level for the designated time before quenching their thirst and returning to their grade. Many thanks to families who supported this fundraising effort earlier. This event has raised $6,235.25 which is going towards the purchase of toys and construction kits for students to use at recess times. STAR READER AWARDS APS At the beginning of Term 1 we launched the Star Readerprogram to encourage reading and borrowing books from the library. It was based on children reading as many books as they could in a period of time. It is now time to conclude the program and give the children their awards. One winner from each class is the child who has read the most books during the period. 00A Olivia Chongue 1/2A Mimi Dinh 3/4A Alex Watkins 00B Sannus Nguyen 1/2B Riria Oniki 3/4B Oscar Checinski 00C Olivia Brophy 1/2C James Van Ekeren 3/4B Oscar Checinski 00D Henry Span 1/2D Ali Redha 3/4D Seth Ramos 4/5A Lillian Le 1/2E Claudia Stojanoski 5/6A Patrick Le 5/B Eva-Marie Camilleri-Mouselimis 5/6C Farj Mourad Parking – causing distress Parking around the school in the mornings is usually trouble free, however the same cannot be said for the after- noon. As students are dismissed at the same time, parking bays close to the school are quickly filled. I have re- ceived a number of disturbing reports of parents parking illegally disrupting traffic flow and potentially endanger- ing students. The following practices are illegal and can be reported to the police: Stopping behind parked vehicles in Sydney Street Parking in drive-ways or on the nature strip Parking close to the school-crossing and most dangerous of all, Parking on the curb opposite the school and calling students to the car The remedy requires: parents acknowledge that car parks are filled before 3pm and do not park illegally use of alternative parking spaces (library, behind McDonalds, Wood or Robson streets) arrange to pick up your children at 3:25 when the parking bays are clear, there are teachers on yard duty till 3:30pm. This is an important issue as childrens wellbeing is at stake. I hope you have a great week.

Ron Conn I really enjoyed going to the Ron Conn Centre, as it is always a great learning experience. All the students played a song then read out a poem. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to me, it was a wonderful surprise. Eleni 5/6A

Last Tuesday some students went to perform at the Ron Conn Centre. We all did a fantastic job and I’m sure our audience enjoyed it. Thanks to Mrs Shell and Mrs Portelli for taking us there. Overall, we showed great confidence and we can’t wait to go over again. I wish Eleni a great 12th birthday. Monica 5/6A

Last week I went to the Ron Conn Centre with some students from 5/6A. We each performed a piece in front and then recited a musical poem. The elderly kindly clapped when we finished and sang along with us during the singing. Eleni, happy birthday! Delcine 5/6A

Last week we went to the Ron Conn Centre to perform for the elderly who live there. We all played fantastic songs and they loved it. We then recited poems and sang happy birthday to Eleni. We all had fun and we all had a happy time. An 5/6A

Last Tuesday I went to the Ron Conn Centre to entertain the elderly residents. I really enjoyed playing for them and want to go back again. Chrissie 5/6A

On Tuesday the 8th of May we went to the Ron Conn Centre to play piano for the elderly. I like going because I am gain more experience and confidence each time I go. While playing ‘Classical Moment’ I made a few mistakes but I quickly covered them. I hope I can go back and play for the residents again. Kary 5/6A
