STUDENT SERVICES

We have many messages being left on our voicemail before the school day begins. These messag-es are for Early Dismissals and/or Bus Passes. You should be sending a note with your student for both of these. If you leave a voicemail message, we may not get it by the time you are wanting your student released. Also, we do not take Early Dismissal notes or Bus Passes needed for the next day; passes are only given on the day of. EARLY DISMISSALS When students have to leave school early for special appointments, a note must be brought from a parent/guardian to secure an “Early Dismissal” slip from Student Services. This must be obtained before school begins. Without a note, we cannot guarantee that we can locate your student in a timely manner for their Early Dismissal as classes do go outside, go to the library and other loca-tions within campus. If leaving early for a doctor’s appointment, please provide doctor’s verification to ensure that the absence is excused. If you have sent a note with your student, you do not need to call Student Services; the note is enough. BUS PASSES Bus passes must be obtained in Student Services before school begins. A note must be brought from parent/guardian with the following information: student name, grade, bus number needing to ride, address of location going.

ATTENDANCE If your student was marked absent in a class for the day, you will receive a call the next day. This absence is an unverified absence which means that we have not received a phone call from a parent/guardian about it. If you receive this phone call and feel it is in error, please have your stu-dent talk with the teacher who marked the absence or you can contact the teacher via email. If the absence needs to be marked differently, the teacher will contact Student Services to make the change.

Prom Dresses Needed

The Avon High School Interact Club will be holding its seventh annual Girls’ Prom Essentials Sale to help high school girls live out their dreams of a memorable prom. Making high school prom more affordable and supporting the women residents at Sheltering Wings are the two goals of this group of service-minded high school students.

On Saturday, March 10 from 10 am to 1 pm, the AHS Interact Club sponsored by Avon Rotary will welcome all high school girls looking to purchase quality dresses and accessories. To ensure that there is a wide variety of choices, donations are needed. Anyone who would like to donate formal or semi-formal dresses in any size or style, jewelry, dressy shoes, evening purses, etc. is encouraged to drop them off at one of the following collections sites from Feb. 1 through March 1: Avon High School Door #1, Cass & Co. Salon, 7374 Business Center Dr., or Scrubs by Pinque Lady at Prest-wick at the Crossing, 5201 E. US 36, #204.

On March 10th all high school girls looking for formal or semi-formal dresses are invited to come and shop from hundreds of gently used and new dresses, shoes and accessories. Dresses will sell for $10, shoes for $2 a pair, and accessories for $1 each. Shoppers should enter door #13, the Ad-vanced Learning Center of the high school on the east side of the building.

All proceeds from the Girls’ Prom Essentials Sale will be donated to Sheltering Wings to support women in their effort to lead healthy, independent lives.

Clothing Voucher Program

The Washington Township Assistance Program has launched a Clothing Voucher program for school-aged children enrolled in a school within Washington Township.

The process is similar to the current process for applying for Township Assistance. One must come into the office to pick up an application and set an appointment. The household will need to verify all pertinent information the same as any other application: Identification, Household expenses, Re-sources, Income. In addition, for clothing, verification of school enrollment within Washington Town-ship will be required. The income standards are set at the same level as Free Lunch Program, 130% of poverty level.

If approved, a voucher will be issued for Burlington Coat Factory in Plainfield to purchase school clothing. Permitted items are: Shirts, Pants, Shorts, Dresses/Skirts, Underclothes, Shoes, Socks, winter outer clothing, and belts. Clients who are approved are eligible for up to $300 a calendar year per child. This, at the discretion of the Assistance Director, may be distributed in 2 separate vouch-ers of $150 each. This is to ensure that children have enough and appropriate clothing throughout the seasons of the school year.

The program will begin in July. Apply at the Washington Township Trustee, 311 Production Drive, Avon or call 317-272-1835 with questions.
