AVIATIONMAINTENANCE
TECHNOLOGY
The Aviation Maintenance Technology Program offers an associate of applied science in aviation maintenance and certificates in airframe, powerplant, or airframe and powerplant maintenance. It is one of the few twelve month Federal Aviation Administration Part-147 certified programs in the nation. The program is also a recipient of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Diamond Certificate of Excellence award, the agency’s most prestigious award given in recognition of top aviation maintenance technicians and their employers.
The program is located in the newly acquired CTC Aviation Hangar, located on the East Ramp of the Fairbanks International Airport. Class size is limited to ensure you receive individual help and attention. Instructors are
experienced aviation professionals who possess excellent technical skills and knowledge and the ability to communicate with their students.
Students work in a facility that is equipped in keeping with the latest industry needs and practices. The program is designed to prepare students for the FAA’s airframe and powerplant exam. Passing the exam allows students to find jobs in aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and other maintenance-related fields, as well as perform maintenance on personal aircraft. Most graduates choose to work in general aviation and many have gone on to become lead mechanics, shop foremen, and directors of maintenance.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
APPLICATION PROCESS
Admission to the program is at the discretion of the program faculty and requires an interview with the faculty advisor. The program begins the first of September of each year. Students planning to go on to a bachelor’s degree are advised to select courses meeting remaining core requirements and courses designated within bachelor’s degree major and minor. Students who plan to transfer to another institution to continue their studies should work closely with that institution on their degree requirements.
The program prepares students to take the FAA examination for the A&P rating. After receiving a certificate, students may elect to complete the associate of applied science (AAS) degree in aviation maintenance. This option is also open to students who have an FAA mechanics certificate, regardless of how or where it was obtained. Students are encouraged to pursue the degree or certificate program. However, students do have the option of enrolling in individual classes on a space-available basis by meeting with an advisor. Students interested in qualifying for an FAA airframe or powerplant mechanics certificate only, may do so. Students who have completed an AAS degree may elect to continue their education by completing a bachelor of technology (BT) degree.
