5.5 References and Related Documentation
Reports and Documentation - available from the Compatibility section of the AVEVA
Support Site.
6. Using the Product Compatibility Report – Basics
6.1 Accessing the Product Compatibility Report & documentation
You can navigate to the reports
via AVEVA Support Site -> Compatibility -> Matrix (New)
From the side menu, you can select:
Matrix Reports (New)
o Report that can be filtered several ways and
replaces the original legacy spreadsheet.
FAQ (New)
o A document containing "Frequently asked
questions" about the Product Compatibility
Report
User Guide (New)
o This menu entry will return this document.
6.2 Configuring and running reports (example)
If you have navigated to the report you should now see the Product Compatibility
Report screen which executes with default parameters. (Highlighted below):-
Report Filter Parameters.
Both Reports use the same parameter filters. Some additional values may be
available in the dropdowns for the internal report.
–
This picker currently defaults to all products that are supported and have
some compatibility assigned, but you may choose to limit this selection
for simplicity.
Figure 1 - Menu
– You can choose to filter by
product support status. (The customer facing report template is restricted
to Full and Limited Support Status only.)
–
You can choose to filter out certain status types from the Compatibility
Status picker. Eg. To not show those rows that are unsupported or
unreleased. You may wish to refer to the legend for that.
– You can choose to limit the
report to show rows for the specific products you have selected only, or
you can return any related compatible products that work with your
selection.
– When you have made your choices, click the button.
Understanding the Abbreviations used in the legend.
In the report, there is a notation (e.g. Y,
Y+, N) used to identify details of
compatibility between products.
Please familiarise yourself with these
abbreviations. They appear in every
report.
– Y
The products are compatible (including recent fix versions).
– Y+
The products are compatible if using most recent fix versions.
This also means that some combinations of earlier fix versions
of the products are not compatible.
– S+
The standard AVEVA products are not compatible.
But the products can be integrated manually using professional
services.
– N
The products are either not compatible or not tested and
supported as compatible.
– P
The products are planned to be compatible with an upcoming
release.

6.3 Exporting the contents of a report
To export the contents of the report to Excel:
o Click on the "Export drop down menu" button
o Select Excel as report format.
o Save the report
Excel may vary the formatting such as gridlines and border-
widths. These are limitations of the reporting tools.
The next section analyses some of the information available in the report in Excel
format.
6.4 Analysing the contents of a report
For this exercise let’s assume the reader is: Using AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4 and are
interested in using the AVEVA PDMS-VPRM Gateway™ and AVEVA Pipe Fluid Flow
Interface – PN™.
They have indicated, they cannot upgrade AVEVA PDMS™ due to project constraints.
The report below shows AVEVA Products which are compatible with AVEVA PDMS™.
The product selected was “AVEVA PDMS” and the Report Option was returning any
“related compatible products.
6.4.1 Layout of the report
First, note that compatibility information is sorted alphabetically according to
Product, then Series. Where a Product Series exists in 32- and 64- bit versions,
these are distinguished in the report.
The “x” axis follows these sorting rules
top left to top right of the screen.
The “y” axis follows these sorting rules
top left to bottom left of the screen.
The report here is zoomed to page width
so we can get a grasp of how many
options or products AVEVA PDMS™ can
work with.
Figure 2- AVEVA PDMS™ and all related compatibility
Page 9 of 18
6.4.2 Compatibility details in the report
Looking at part of the report (Highlighted area from Figure 2)
Figure 3- Zoomed in section of report
The detail on AVEVA Pipe Fluid Flow Interface – PN™ and AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.4
indicates that:
AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.4 is fully compatible with AVEVA Pipe Fluid Flow Interface –
PN™ 1.1.0
Therefore, there is no need to install a recent fix in order to be compatible.
NB: Of course, AVEVA always recommends that the Customer should upgrade to
the latest fix version.
The detail on AVEVA PDMS-VPRM Gateway™ 5.4.0 and AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.4
indicates that:
AVEVA PDMS-VPRM Gateway™ 5.4.0 is compatible with AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1. 4 if
the products are running the latest fixes. But 5.5.0 does not require any fix and
is more recent.
Therefore, the recommended (most recent, supported and compatible versions)
would be AVEVA PDMS-VPRM Gateway™ 5.5.0 and Pipe fluid flow interface - PN™
1.1.0

7. Using the Product Compatibility Report – Some customer
scenarios
This section describes some scenarios in which the customer may ask for
information on compatibility between AVEVA products.
Disclaimer - Information in the Report Examples will not be updated
The output of the report examples in this user guide were up-to-date when taken
(2015-09-08). However, when the user runs the very same report, the information
obtained is likely to have changed. The output is likely to change in two ways, over
time:-
a) Appearance of additional fixes, product versions and products
b) Removal of some earlier versions (+ associated fixes) and some entire
products, as support is eventually withdrawn
It is important to stress that this user guide contains examples, and is not a source
of up-to-date information.
7.1 What other Products is my AVEVA Product compatible with?
Example: I am running AVEVA Instrumentation™ 12.1.SP2.4. What AVEVA Products
is this compatible with?
How to generate the relevant report(s):
This is a straightforward report.
Click on arrow next to Product Series to see a list of supported AVEVA
Products and select the appropriate product of “AVEVA Instrumentation”.
Leave "Compatibility Status and SupportStatus" fields in their default state.
Ensure that Show related compatible products is selected.
Click on View Report.
Observe that a matrix report is generated, indicating a number of products
across the AVEVA Product Suite, which the selected product is product-
compatible with:-
Advice to the reader:
Return to the report if wishing to make alternate queries.
7.2 I have an AVEVA product which I want to integrate which
another AVEVA Product - what needs upgrading?
Example: I have just the AVEVA product AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP2. I want to
integrate this product with AVEVA P&ID™ 64-bit. What upgrades if any, do I need to
make?
How to generate the relevant report(s):
The approach to take is:-
1) Find out what versions of AVEVA P&ID™ are supported by AVEVA
2) Find out which of these is product-compatible with AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP2
3) Find out which of these is product-compatible with the latest fix of AVEVA
PDMS™ 12.1.SP2
4) Select the appropriate version of AVEVA P&ID™
To find what versions of AVEVA P&ID™ are supported by AVEVA:
Go to report, select the two relevant Products Series.
Change the report option to “Show selected products only.”
Click on View Report.
Observe that AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.2 will work with AVEVA P&ID™ 12.1.1 (with
fixes) or AVEVA P&ID™ 12.1.2 :
Advice to the reader:
It's possible to use AVEVA P&ID™ 12.1.1 with your current version of AVEVA
PDMS™ (12.1.SP2) but you will need to apply recent hotfixes to both
products.
It’s possible to use AVEVA P&ID™ 12.1.2 without hotfixes, but it is still
recommended to use the latest fixes and latest compatible versions.
7.3 When I upgrade, which other AVEVA Products will need
upgrading?
Example: I have the latest fix of AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4. I am thinking of moving
to the latest version of AVEVA Everything3D™ which happens to be 1.1.0. What
other Products will I need to upgrade?
How to generate the relevant report(s):
The approach to take is:-
1) Select the list of AVEVA products used on that project.
o This exercise is using AVEVA Bocad™ 2.1.0, AVEVA Licensing System™
1.0 and AVEVA P&ID™ 64-bit 12.1.2
o So select: AVEVA Everything3D, AVEVA Bocad, AVEVA Licensing
System, and AVEVA P&ID 64-bit.
2) Change the report option to “Show selected products only.”
3) Find out what versions of all AVEVA products are product-compatible with
the latest fix of AVEVA Everything3D™.
4) Look for Yellow Cells showing Y+ which indicate hotfixes required.
5) Look out for missing versions from the ones the customer is using. (only
supported products are shown)
Advice to the reader:
You need to have the latest hotfix of AVEVA Everything3D™ 1.1.0
You need the latest hotfix of AVEVA Bocad™ 2.1.0, 2.1.1 or 2.2.0 (any of
these three will work - so there is no need to upgrade to 2.2 if the customer
has 2.1)
You need AVEVA P&ID™ 64-bit version 12.1.1 or 12.1.2 (either will work)
You need AVEVA Licensing System™ (ALS) 1.2.0 or 1.3.0 (either will work)
Notice also, that versions earlier than ALS 1.2.0 are not in the list. If an
earlier version is in use, the advice is to upgrade to 1.3.0 (latest version) at
the same time.
7.5 Which version of AVEVA Administration should I use?
Main Example: I run a number of projects with AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4 and with
AVEVA Everything3D™ 1.1.
Variant Example: I run a number of projects with AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4 and with
AVEVA Everything3D™ 1.1 and also with AVEVA Diagrams™ 14.1.0.
Which version(s) of AVEVA Administration™ should I use - in each case?
Note that AVEVA Administration exists as a standalone product but for
AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4 (and earlier versions) exists as a module within
PDMS. In cases where a mix of AVEVA PDMS™ and AVEVA Everything3D™ are
used, the standalone AVEVA Administration™ product should be used.
How to generate the relevant report(s):
The approach to take is:-
1) Select the list of AVEVA products used on that project.
2) Change the report option to “Show
selected products only.”
3) Find which versions of AVEVA Administration™ are supported on each product
or both.
Main Example - Advice to the reader:
AVEVA Administration™ 1.2.0 and 1.3.0 are both compatible with the two
products so either is acceptable. Note that earlier versions of AVEVA
Administration™ (e.g. 1.1.0) cannot be used because it is not compatible with
AVEVA PDMS™ 12.1.SP4.
Variant Example - Advice to the Reader:
AVEVA Administration™ 1.3.0 is the only version of AVEVA Administration™
which is compatible with all three products so earlier versions of AVEVA
Administration™ (1.1.0, 1.2.0) cannot be used.
