    Chapter 1: IntroductionTheEnablerisanapplicationthatisinstalledonmobiledevicestofacilitatecommunicationbetweenthedeviceandamobiledeviceserver.ThemobiledeviceserverallowscommunicationbetweenthemobiledeviceandtheAvalancheConsole.

    TheEnablercanmanageanumberoffunctionsonthemobiledevicetoallowadministratorstoconfiguremobiledevices.Thesefunctionsinclude:

    ControloftheWiFiradio.Thisallowsyoutoconfiguretheradio(IEEE802.11)settingsofthemobiledevicefromtheAvalancheConsoleoratthemobiledevicethroughtheEnablerGUI.

    Controlofnetworksettings.ThisallowsyoutoconfiguretheIPsettingsofthemobiledevicefromtheAvalancheConsoleoratthemobiledevicethroughtheEnablerGUI.

    ControloftheWWANradio.ThisallowsyoutoconfigureWWANsettingsonthemobiledeviceinordertoconnecttotheAvalancheConsolewhenoutofWiFirange.

    YoucanalsousetheEnablertoperformthefollowingtasks:

    Lock-downthemobiledevicetopreventusersfromaccessingotherinstalledcomponents.

    CreateshortcutstootherapplicationsintheEnablerinterfaceandlaunchthemonthemobiledevice.

    ViewcommunicationbetweentheEnablerandthemobiledeviceserver,includingsoftwareandconfigurationdownloads.

    ViewmessagessentbyanadministratorfromtheAvalancheConsoletothemobiledevice.

    Interfacing with Mobile DevicesTheAvalancheEnablerinterfaceswiththefollowingcomponentsofamobiledevice:

    The File System

    TheEnablerrequiresabout1MBofspaceonthemobiledeviceandadditionalspaceontheFlashdrivetoprovideforcoldbootrecovery.

    SincepartoftheEnablersdesignprovidesforthedownloadofconfigurationfilesandapplicationsfromamobiledeviceserver,theEnablermaywriteotherfilestovolatileandnon-volatilememory.Forexample,theEnablerallowsuserstodownloadandinstalltheWavelinkTerminalEmulationClientoverthenetworkconnection.

    The Registry

    TheEnablerusesthemobiledeviceregistrytoobtainandconfiguretheIPsettingsoftheradiocardonthemobiledevice.SoftwarepackagesthatareinstalledthroughtheEnablermayalsoaddregistryentriestothemobiledevice.

    The WiFi Radio

    TheEnablerisdesignedtocontrolandconfiguretheWiFiradio(802.11)cardonthemobiledevice.TheEnablerinterfaceallowsuserstoconfigurethevariouscomponentsoftheradiocardonthemobiledevice,includingtheSSIDandencryption/authenticationsettings.

    The Cellular Radio

    Ifthedevicehasacellularradio,theEnablercanuseittoconnecttothemobiledeviceservertocheckforupdatesandtransmitstatistics.

    NOTE:TheEnablercanonlyusethecellularradiowhenthedevicehasaWindowsMobileoperatingsystem.

    Anytimeyouinteractwiththephysicalkeyboardortypeinformationintoatextboxthatinformationappearsinthe Courier New textstyle.Thistextstyleisalsousedforfilenamesorfilepathslistedinthetext.

    Examples:

    ThedefaultlocationisC:\Program Files\Wavelink\Avalanche.

    PressCTRL+ALT+DELETE.

    Bold Anytimethisguidereferstoanoption,suchasdescriptionsofdifferentoptionsinadialogbox,thatoptionappearsintheBoldtextstyle.Thisisalsousedfortabnamesandmenuitems.

    Example:

    Click File > Open.

    Italics Anytimethisguidereferstothetitlesofdialogboxes,thatsectionappearsintheItalicstextstyle.

    Example:

    TheInfrastructure Profilesdialogboxappears.

    Chapter 2: Installation and ConfigurationTheAvalancheEnablerisinstalledonyourmobiledevicesusingActiveSync.YoucanconfiguretheEnableratthetimeofinstallationorlaterthroughtheAvalancheConsoleusingtheAvalancheEnablerconfigurationpackage.Ifyouhaveconfigurednetworkormobiledeviceprofilesthatyouwanttousetoconfigurethedevice,youcanexportthosefromtheAvalancheConsoleandapplythemontheEnableratthetimeofinstallation.

    FutureconfigurationchangestotheEnablercanbedeployedfromtheAvalancheConsoleusingtheEnablerConfigurationPackage.SomeconfigurationoptionsarealsoavailableonthedeviceoncetheEnablerhasbeeninstalled.
