AUTUMN TERM 2016 NEWSLETTER No. 4 BAD WEATHER ARRANGEMENTS In the event of bad weather, may we remind you to please check the website for any updates should the weather change for the worse. Children may come to school wearing their jogger bottoms with their normal school uniform. Any gloves, hats or scarves worn need to be school uniform, available from Butterflies, or plain navy blue. Please, please name all of these items. Wellies can also be worn in bad weather, but please ensure that your child has their school shoes with them to change into. Parents should receive a text message in the unlikely event of school closures. If you do not get our texts, please let the office know as soon as possible. ILLNESS If your child has had a stomach upset we would advise you that, in order to control any cross infection, they must be kept away from school for 48 hours from the last episode of diarrhoea and/or vomiting. This is in accordance with the advice from the Health Protection Agency. POLITE REMINDER If you child is unwell, please do not bring them to school, even if they want to come. If you think your child is well enough to come to school but has had medicine at home in the morning, please let Mrs Wood know. Thank you. SNACKS May we please remind you that the snacks Year 1 and 2 girls are allowed to bring for their morning break include a piece of cheese, small portion of fruit/vegetable, a box of raisins (not chocolate covered) or a fruit smoothie. We have children in school that can suffer severe allergic reactions to ingredients found in a variety of foods, so your cooperation in ensuring that your child only brings in the specified snack would be appreciated. Any other snacks, including sweets, crisps, cereals, breadsticks and chocolate are not permitted. Snacks are provided by school for Nursery and Reception children. AUTUMN HOLIDAY CLUB was enjoyed by everyone who attended. There was paint and glitter everywhere as the children decorated canvases to make a Halloween picture. Throughout the week the children carried out many different activities, including designing and making their own scary face pizza, concluding with party day where we played many games and dressed up. POPPY APPEAL - The Royal British Legion has expressed their thanks and gratitude for supporting the Poppy Appeal. This will help them continue their vital welfare and benevolent work. Thank you for your continue support. ANTI BULLYING WEEK - We are marking the national Anti- Bullying Week in school to give children the opportunity to understand what bullying is and how they can report it. The theme for our week has been “The Power for Good” which celebrates not only our own special skills and diversity but also an individual’s power to make someone feel special due to our kind or encouraging words. Children in each class have been discussing the differences between rudeness and bullying and who to ask for help. Reception children have enjoyed spotting random acts of kindness around the school. Friday’s Superhero day has been a fun way to end the week but I am sure the children will remember the important messages from this week for the rest of the school year.

NURSERY – Alexand

er’s daddy

in Nursery

has recently publish

ed a book titled 'ZOMBIEGERM' that couldn't be more appropriately timed! We have had some germs making the children in Nursery poorly since our half term holiday and in order to stop them spreading, we have been working on our personal hygiene. After thoroughly enjoying listening to the story about the two brothers Seb and Panda and their quest to be germ free, the boys and girls are being encouraged to wash their hands regular with soap and water. We have displayed colourful 'ZOMBIEGERM' posters in the Nursery toilets and are rewarding the children with 'ZOMBIEGERM' stickers. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Sprenger for encouraging us to keep ourselves clean and healthy. We are looking forward to Matron coming to visit us too to find out more about looking after ourselves.

RECEPTION - We hope that you have had a lovely half term holiday. Our new topic is ‘Celebrations’. To start our new topic, the girls enjoyed sharing their news about bonfire night. As part of learning about Diwali, the girls have made diva lamps, tasted some different Indian food and listened to the story of Rama and Sita. This week, we have been thinking about birthdays. The girls have enjoyed acting out a birthday party in the role play area. Last week, we had a special assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day where two minutes silence was observed. As part of our remembering, the girls all made a poppy and contributed to a remembrance tree.

YEAR 1 - In Year 1 this week we have been to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and enjoyed looking and learning about all the animals. We have started our new topic in Geography – Wonderful Weather and we will be learning about this up until Christmas. In Art we have finished our topic by creating an underwater Batik using wax resist crayons and fabric dye – they look fantastic! We are celebrating anti-bullying week this week and thinking about how we can use our power to stop bullying happening. YEAR 2 - As part of our Personal, Social and Health Education work this term Year 2 have been thinking about how special we all are and what makes us unique.

Over the holidays each of the girls has made up their own special shoe box. The girls have kept their boxes a surprise and enjoyed revealing clues about themselves to see if the other girls could guess who the box belongs to…. It was a bit like “Through the key hole!”

Look out for some of our boxes which are on display in the glass cabinet in the front entrance hall at Mulberry House.

We enjoyed reading all our Bug Club books in October half term. Here are the girls who completed their books with their certificate.

The Year 2 Choir and Mulberry singers will be performing for 20 minutes near the Management desk (outside Marks and Spencer’s) in the Ridings Shopping Centre at 12.45 pm to celebrate the Christmas lights switch on. We are looking forward to our performance and hope that you will be able to join us to
