Autumn Newsletter.
Thursday 9th April 2020
So, the world is kind of scary right now (but I’m guessing you've probably noticed that). We are going
through something that has never been seen before.
We can't fix the world but we can look after each other and do the best we can to make every day the
best that we can. The aim of the Autumn Newsletter is to let you know that the Windarring team are
2 windarring.org.au | 03 5422 7001 | [email protected]
doing everything that they can to support clients and families who are still attending and those people
who have decided that is safer for them to be at home. One of the things I was incredibly proud from
this week is the response of our amazing Windarring team. There have been the phone calls to clients
and care packages dropped off at clients homes who haven’t attended Windarring for a couple of
weeks. The staff wanted all clients to know that we miss them and can’t wait until things are safer and
they can all come back and see their friends.
Our Team Leaders will be ringing everyone again after Easter to check in that things are going well at
home. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help out with especially home supports, for
example, a pamper afternoon, a walk in the park or some other favourite place, a call up on Zoom or
Skype, or just a bit of respite. We are doing a number of services in home on a 1:1 basis.
Windarring is closely monitoring and responding to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health alert. The
safety of all staff and our clients, parents and families are always our top priority. Until we hear
differently from the Government all disability services are seen as essential service.
Vicki Poxon
Windarring CEO

Things to do at home on the Internet.
We are all spending a lot more time at home. Here are some fun ideas!
A number of you have been at home in self isolation and possibly by now you are wondering what
else can I do? We have been searching the internet for some interesting websites that you may want
to try.

If you need anything from Windarring please give us a call. We have collections of games, books and
art and craft supplies. We want to be able to support you all during this difficult time.
1. Animals at Home from Melbourne Zoo
The zoo is live streaming the animals! It’s fascinating to see what the animals get up to when thy think
no-one is watching
https://www.zoo.org.au/melbourne
2. Music Map
Type in any musician’s name on the homepage and it will give you a map of other artists you might
like. The closer the names, the more alike the artist is. Give it a go and see if you can discover new
music – it’s like having that mate who knows everything about bands in a searchable database on the
internet. Not bad at all.
3. Geo Guessr
This game is beyond fascinating. It drops you somewhere in the world on Google Street View and you
have to guess where you are. The closer you pinpoint your location on the map, the more points you
get. You can even customise it so you can only be dropped in Europe or other regions. But for the
real fun, you have to play the global version. Good luck when you try and differentiate a dirt track in
Mexico with one in Australia.

4. A Soft Murmur
Just play around with the sliders to achieve your perfectly calming background noise. It’s impossible
not to try every one and each has its own unique charm (we could listen to ‘fire’ all day every day)

5. A Good Movie to Watch
One of life’s perennial problems: trying to think of a good movie to watch. This website takes care of it
with quality suggestions that aren’t exactly well-known. If anything, a few clicks of a random
suggestion will get you to something that will catch your interest.
6. You and Exercise
Motivate You Disability Fitness Services is a multi-award winning professional business that
specialises in working with People with Disabilities. Their programs are planned, structured, modified
and customised to people with disabilities. Safety and injury prevention are also at the cornerstone of

Thank you Angie! Our clients in supported living at Millend have struggled to have enough toilet paper
in recent weeks. Support workers and clients approached both local supermarkets
in Kyneton begging for help and support to no avail.
One Friday a group of our clients were at
Angie's cafe in High Street. Angie heard the
supported living crew discussing their plight
about toilet paper. Angie and her partner
approached us to offer some help – they sold
us a box of 48 rolls at wholesale price to
share among supported living clients which
will be distributed among the houses and
units that need them.
Yay happy humans!
And wonderful caring support from a little cafe.

Animus & Hand Sanitiser
Animus have donated a whopping 50 bottles of their
sanitiser to Windarring, which will get us out of trouble,
as it is SO hard to get hold of in this crazy COVID19
world!
They have turned their distillery on Piper Street in
Kyneton into making the sanitiser for the public to be
safer!
As the label reads, 50% of profits for selling each bottle
at $10 each, is donated back to the community in
donated sanitiser!
AMAZING!!! And Thank you @animusdistillery

Millend residents had a wonderful day
creating their very own Cafe with extra
support on hand. At Windarring we are
endevouring to keep their spirits high
through this very tough period.
Kate and Robbie helped set up the
tables and chairs. All residents that were
home took part in the cafe enjoying
morning tea.
Billie, pictured above, made homemade
cookies and cooked dinner for Kate and
herself.
Happy chef's all round.
