Actuator Type
Pneumatic
Use pressurized gas (air) to power the actuator;
Cheap, Safe and Clean.
HydraulicUse pumped liquid (oil) to power the actuator;
Commonly used when the valve torque is high;
Expensive since we have to provide HPU c/w reservoir &
return line for oil return.
Electric (Motor operated Valve MOV)
Use motor (inside the actuator) to actuate the valve;
Commonly use when pneumatic/hydraulic is not available;
Typically for general Isolation not for Shutdown purpose;
Stroke time @ max 2 minutes.

max shut-off pressure]
In case of pneumatic/ hydraulic actuator, it should be sized @
minimum available pneumatic/ hydraulic supply pressure
In case of electric actuator, it should be sized @ minimum
available voltage supply
Safety factor typically > 30%
Stroke Time [ max 2 minutes for MOV and 1 second per 25 mm of nominalsize of valve for pneumatic/ hydraulic actuated valves (with max of 45 seconds)
