Diagnosis andAssessment (20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

ThismodulewillexplorethevariousapproachesusedtodiagnoseAutism andrelatedconditions fromthemedical,socialandeducational perspective. Itwillbuildupontheneurobiology involvedinAutism,evaluatedifferentassessment techniques relatingthemtotheprocesses ofgainingadiagnosis (childandadult)andlinkingthemtotheassessment ofneed. Itwill furtherexploretheevidence baseforthevariousdiagnosticandassessment proceduresinrelationtoserviceprovisionandplanning.

FoundationsofBehaviour(20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

Thismodulewill introducestudents totheconcepts involvedinthenormalandabnormaldevelopment ofthebrainintermsofthephysiologicalandpsychologicalaspects. Additionally, itwillexplorehowalteredneurodevelopment isoftendescribedasacomponentofthebehaviouralaspects ofAutism presentation. Furthermore,studentswillbe introducedtothetheoretical concepts ofBehaviouralAnalysisanditspotential roleinthemanagement ofAutism.

LivingwithAutism (20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

Thismodulewillexplorethehistoryofautismtoinformhowpeople livedwithautism(includingparentsandcarers)previouslytothepresentday,criticallyreviewtheimpactofautism(pre- andpost- diagnosis) uponthe individualandfamily,exploretheissue ofparentalstress,discusshowourunderstanding ofthe impactofautism canhaveaninput intoservice planninganddelivery,appraising integratedservices andtheinfluence ofpolicychangesonthesupportprovided(clinically,sociallyandeducationally).

Management ofAutism(20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

Thismodulewillexploretheuseofvariousinterventions, treatments andapproachesusedtosupportpeople ofallageswholivewithAutism andhowthese approachescouldbeincorporatedwithintheclinical, educational andsocialcareservices aspartofanoverallintegratedmanagement strategy.Additionally,thismodulewilldiscuss howyoucaninvolveparents,caregiversandtheindividual themselves inasupportiveroleforthemanagement ofAutism.

ChildandAdultServices forAutism(20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

Thismodulewillexploreandevaluatethe issues fortheprovisionofAutism relatedservices (includingclinical, socialandeducational) forchildrenandadultswithasuspected oractualdiagnosis ofAutism.Additionally, itwilldebatetheprocessforthetransition fromchildservices toadultservices toexplorehowcurrentprovisionisreflectiveofneed(ornot)andhowsuchatransition canbemanaged.Furthermore,itwillevaluaterecentpolicy initiatives intermsofhowtheycanbeincorporatedandintegrated intoAutism relatedservices.

LawandPolicyforAutism(20Credits)

ModuleDescription:

Thismodulewillexplorevariousaspects ofstatutorylawanditsrelevancetotheprovisionofAutismrelatedservices. Furthermore,itexplores thevariouslevels ofengagement peoplewithautismcanhavewiththecriminal justice,civillawandotherlegalsystems.Additionally,themodulewillcriticallyreviewanddiscuss localandnationalpolicydirectivesrelatingtoAutism.
