Small business urged to join Buy RegionalMichael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter is urging local retailers to list their details on the NSW Government’s Buy Regional hub, which is connecting city shoppers with rural small businesses in the lead up to the Christmas present buying rush.Mr Johnsen said the Buy Regional campaign is an online hub that showcases regional shops and sellers together in one place, to make it easy for shoppers to both fi nd the perfect Christmas gift and support regional NSW.

Sydneysiders are being encouraged to visit www.nsw.gov.au/buyregional and browse six categories, Wine, Fashion, Food, Gifts for Kids, Art & Design and Christmas hampers, to fi nd gifts for their friends and family and support regional NSW towns.

“Our regional businesses can participate in the Buy Regional hub and social media network for free, so people wanting to help can give retailers in drought stricken areas the present they want most this Christmas – customers,” Mr Johnsen said

“We’ve recently seen the great success of online communities like #buyfromthebush and the NSW Government’s Buy Regional hub is bringing all of these fantastic initiatives together to provide an easy to browse directory of regional businesses.

“The Buy Regional hub includes information to help local businesses create an online presence if they choose to, but there’s no reason why you can’t list your details and take orders over the phone or via email.

“The Nationals in Government are also encouraging Sydneysiders to buy meat, produce and hampers from regional NSW for festive get togethers and Christmas Day feasts.

“We’re telling our city cousins to favour the fl avours of regional NSW and directly ask their butchers and greengrocers for meat, poultry and produce provided by NSW farmers or to check out the Buy Regional hub for honey, preserves, veg, meat or even fully-stocked hampers, all sourced locally.

“People who want to help and Buy Regional are providing a very simple but effective method of showcasing regional businesses to a large audience with Christmas gift dollars that they’re ready to spend.

“I encourage all our Upper Hunter Electorate small businesses to provide their details to the Buy Regional hub so Sydney shoppers can check out what you have to offer this Christmas,” Mr Johnsen concluded.

The Buy Regional for Christmas hub is at: www.nsw.gov.au/buyregional

Parvo and your puppyOne of the most common illnesses we see in puppies in our area is Parvo Virus. Parvo is a very contagious virus that can be fatal. Please protect your puppy from Parvo!Follow your puppy’s vaccination schedule

All puppies need 2-3 vaccinations, depending on the age at which you purchase the puppy. At Pet Medical we recommend vaccinations at 6-8 weeks, 10-12 weeks, and 14-16 weeks. It is crucial that your puppy receives its fi nal vaccination at 14-16 weeks of age, not younger. There is never zero risk but a vaccinated dog has a very low risk for contracting parvo.

Help stamp out parvo

Vaccinated puppies don’t shed parvo into the environment so the more dogs that are vaccinated in the community, the lower the risk among all the dogs in that area. Protecting your puppy will help protect all of our puppies!

Do not socialize your puppy during a parvo outbreak!

The vaccines need time to build up resistance in your puppy’s immune system, and will not yet protect them until two weeks after the fi nal vaccination. To protect your puppy: • Get your puppy fully vaccinated (2-3 vaccinations, 3-4 weeks apart as directed by your vet) • Do not take your puppy to the park/walks/public places until after its fi nal vaccination

• Do not encourage people to visit your puppy until then. Parvo virus can be carried on people’s hands, clothes, shoes and vehicles. • Do not encourage people to bring their dogs around to play until your puppy has fi nished its vaccinations. Your puppy can play with other healthy, fully vaccinated dogs in your household.

• Follow basic hygiene! Encourage people to wash their hands before they handle your puppy.

Be aware of the risks

If you live in a rental property where the history of the yard in unknown, OR if you live on a property where you know there have been dogs affected by parvo virus, the virus can live in the soil for up to a year. This means it is never safe to have a puppy in a yard where there has been parvo. You need to keep the puppy elsewhere until after its vaccinations. If you need to disinfect, use bleach and water at a ratio of 1 part bleach to 30 parts water. This can be used on surfaces such as fl oors, concrete. It is almost impossible to decontaminate or eliminate the virus from the soil or grass.

Know the symptoms of Parvo infection:

• vomiting, diarrhoea with or without blood in stools or vomit • lethargy, drooling, lack of appetite • dull and lacking in energy.

A TRIBUUTE TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

ELTON NN JOELTOEA TRIBUTE TO

ELTON JOHN

FRIDAY 10TH JANUARY 2020DASHVILLE, HUNTER VALLEY NSW

THE NIGHT BEFORE SIR ELTON HITS HOPE ESTATE

Featuring numerous special guests and an all star band led by chief Honky Cat Ngariki.

TICKETS AND INFO VIA WWW.DASHVILLE.COM.AU

Dashville operates Hunter Tent Stay this weekend. Catch this show and then catch the bus over to the

Hope Estate concert (20mins away)

Indeed it was a remarkable event this year, as such Dashville Skyline has been voted as a fi nalist in the National Live Music Awards for Best Festival. This is quite the coup for Dashville, up there against major events like Bluesfest and Splendour in The Grass. Dashville is calling for its supporters to help by placing a vote their way via the NLMA’s website.

Moving along, with the cosmic country haze teetering into the horizon, the Dashville team have now turned their sights towards organising the biggest event of the Dashville calendar, The Gum Ball in 2020.

The Gum Ball runs over the last weekend of

the April school holidays, from Friday April 24 to Sunday, April 26. In 2020, it’ll be the 15th chapter of this mighty three-day music and arts, camping festival. Generally the festival sells out and is a massive hit for families looking for a short easy fun cultural get away.

Tickets are now on sale for The Gum Ball, and the fi rst round of artists performing has just been announced, which you can view via the website. thegumball.com.au

If you can’t wait until April to get your Dashville fi x, fortunately there’s some other things on the horizon at Dashville over the summer.

In January the Hunter Valley will become a temporary mecca for Elton John fans, with the legendary entertainer visiting the region for two sold out shows.

Dashville will pay homage with a show called Honky Cat – a Dashville tribute to Elton John.

The performance will see enduring Hunter musician Ngariki head up an all-star band of Dashville’s fi nest for a tribute to Elton.

The show is on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Dashville.
