HOW WAYOUTBACK AUSTRALIAN SAFARIS CAME TO BEEstablished in 1999, Wayoutback Desert Safaris quickly forged an enviable reputation for running authentic small group experiences. Incorporating indigenous culture for true adventure travellers, we traversed the remote Red Centre outback in the Northern Territory and won the hearts and praise from those who travelled with us. We specialised in the Red Centre and were regarded as the experts in being the only genuinely authentic small group outback touring company.

In 2012, Wayoutback Desert Safaris became Wayoutback Australian Safaris, investing and expanding into the Top End of the Northern Territory. As well as visiting Uluru, the red heart of Australia we used our existing ethos and passion and transferred this to the tropical waterfalls and wetlands of Kakadu, Litchfield and Nitmiluk National Parks. Just as we connect with authentic indigenous partners in the Red Centre we did so in the Top End to ensure we were delivering the best authentic experiences possible, allowing us to take our guests into culturally significant Arnhem Land.

Today, Wayoutback Australian Safaris delivers quality experiences throughout our incredible home base of the Northern Territory and our Safaris comprise 3 different styles, catering for travellers of varying ages and budget.

OPEN AGE 4WD SAFARISSuitable for all ages seeking an authentic outback experience with a certain level of comfort these safaris offer remote, powered campsites with hot water and flush toilets, complete with permanent safari tents including beds, all linen, pillows and sleeping bags. Swags are also available for those wanting to sleep under the stars. Our 5 day Red Centre Safari also offers 1 night ‘wild camping’ for those wanting a real outback camping experience.

For those seeking the best in small group experiential travel, whilst still experiencing an authentic Australian outback experience we offer a 3 day Eco Experience in the Red Centre. Limited to six guests, tour in a 4-wheel drive vehicle with a Senior Guide along with 4.5 star hotel accommodation.

18-40 RECOMMENDED SAFARISDesigned for youthful, fun loving travellers on a budget, these safaris are recommended as the name implies to the 18-40 age group and travel in air conditioned Minibuses in the Red Centre and 4WD vehicles in the Top End. While more basic in nature, these safaris offer basic private campsites and in the Red Centre, sleeping under desert skies in

swags, or hire a tent for an additional fee. In the Top End we provide a mix of basic permanent tents and swags to suit the environment we are operating in.

After 18 years I’m still at the helm as Managing Director and shareholder, my passion for the Northern Territory undiminished. Wayoutback Australian Safaris continues to constantly strive to improve our offerings based on our ethos of a few fundamental characteristics we believe are paramount to getting a really authentic taste of the outback as an adventure traveller. All of this however is irrelevant if we don’t offer the most important single ingredient, your tour guide. A great tour guide makes an even greater tour and is something I feel so passionate about I still do tours myself to ensure we are constantly training and offering the

best guides in the business.

Today, our ethos is guided by the below principles: • Keeping away from the crowds as much as possible• Encouraging all guests to sleep under the Red Centre stars in swags (Aussie bush bed)• Utilising private, permanent campsites situated in remote and unique locations• Cooking food over a campfire whenever possible

• 4 wheel driving on outback bush tracks (4wd safaris only)• Providing authentic Aboriginal interaction• Employing and training guides that are, or become, the best in the business

WHY GO WAYOUTBACK?

It’s the experience that counts. Wayoutback is a privately Australian owned and operated business with over 18 years’ experience in supplying travellers unforgettable experiences. While all of our guides are experiencedin Aboriginal culture, history and Dreamtime, some of our trips also visit significant sites with local Aboriginal guides; such as the Maruku Cultural Experience in the Red Centre or Arnhem Land in the Top End.Climbing UluruUluru is a sacred site and Anangu, the indigenous custodians, respectfully ask visitors not to climb it. Wayoutback respects the wishes of the Anangu people and instead explores the base of Uluru and surrounding areas.Guests wishing to climb Uluru must do so on their own and only if weather and time permits.Group participationOur safaris rely on the good will and cooperation of all passengers to make them a success. This includes participating in the preparation of meals, washing up, loading and unloading the vehicle and gathering firewood.

DEVILS MARBLES (KARLU KARLU)

The internationally recognised Devils Marbles are a series of giant granite boulders that are deep red in colour and are located approximately 400km north of Alice springs in the traditional country of the Warumungu, Kaytetye, Alyawarra and Warlpiri people. The site has great significance to the traditional owners who refer to the boulders as “Karlu Karlu”. In a historic ceremony in 2008, ownership of the reserve was officially given back to the traditional owners and the conservation reserve is now jointly managed by park rangers and the local custodians.
