A close look at students learning outcomes (SLO):

Student who are well informed about what behaviors are expected of them in a course/subject or learning activity have definite guide during the learning activity and are therefore perceived to attain success. Correlatively, teacher who knows very well what they wish their students to demonstrate or perform will be in the best position to align their instructional activities to desired learning outcomes. In this light, all assessment and evaluation activities should start with the identification and clarification of the student learning outcomes (SLO) The identified and clarified student learning outcomes serve as the load stars that will guide both teacher and students in activities leading to the attainment of the deserved learning outcomes. What is Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)

Every College program should have a set of college-wide expectation from student learning which have been previously agreed upon by the faculty of the program and which the student who pass different courses under the college program are expected to demonstrate. The individual teacher may add his/her course more student learning expectation but must adopt the agreed upon college program expectation and reflect them on each course syllabus. It is important that these common programs wide expectations are identified and clarified because they are the basis of outcome assessment process.

The student learning outcomes in teacher education program are the skills competencies and values that the student are expected to demonstrate at the end of the every course / subject which are in turn, integrated into year end information of students as they progress towards becoming professional teachers. Attainment of these learning outcomes should be periodically assessed cooperatively by both teacher and student. Periodic assessment helps the students determine their strength and deficiencies and become active participants in outcome attainment. Assessment of expected learning outcomes The process of investigating what students are learning and how well they are learning in relation to the stated expected learning outcomes.

Assessment plan the proposed methods and timeline for assessment-related activities in a given course. ( When are you goin to check what/how well the students are learning and how are you going to do that?)

Expected learning outcome - An expected learning outcome is a formal statement of what students are expected to learn in a course. Expected learning outcome statements refer to specific knowledge, practical skills, areas of professional development, attitudes, higher-order thinking skills, etc. that faculty members expect students to develop, learn, or master during a course (Suskie, 2004).
