VENUESAll Championship events will be held on Victoria’s Surf Coast.

The area is renowned for its fabulous surf beaches and the beautiful rain forests of the Otway Ranges.

Torquay is famous as the surf capital of Victoria. International brands such Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Strapper, Gash and Rojo originated here.

The event centres are less than 90 minutes drive from Melbourne city and Melbourne airport and only around 40 minutes from Avalon airport if travelling by Jetstar.

World Ranking EventsThe Australian Middle and Long Distance MTBO Championships have World Ranking Event status for W/M21 classes.

National MTBO SeriesThe three Australian Championship events comprise the third round of the 2015 National MTBO Series for Junior, Senior and Masters classes. More information on the series on this link. http://tinyurl.com/natmtboseries

Australia-New Zealand MTBO ChallengeThe three Australian Championship events will also see competition between teams from Australia and New Zealand covering Senior, Masters and Junior classes. New Zealand, being the visiting country, shall nominate the actual classes to be contested in the Challenge, with the minimum being M21 and W21.

The Youies Preamble – a champs warm up event Date: Friday 6 November 2015Event Assembly: You Yangs Regional ParkOrganised by: Nillumbik Emus OrienteersStart Times: from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pmMap: Scale 1:15000 Contours 5m An existing MTBO map which will be updated to current IOF standard.Terrain: The terrain and vegetation is similar to what competitors will experience at the Long and Middle events. A generally flat area with mountain bike trails and management vehicle tracks. Tracks are generally sandy but usually firm and fast flowing. A very popular MTB park.Facilities: Public toilets, BBQs and picnic tables available

2015 Australian Sprint Distance MTBO ChampionshipDate: Saturday 7 November 2015 amEvent Assembly: Fisherman’s Beach, TorquayCourse setter: Toby Cooper (Yarra Valley Orienteers)Start Times: from 9.00 am. Start Interval: 2 minMap: Scale 1:7500 Contours 5m Terrain: The course will include coastal foreshore, streets, creek reserve and bushland reserve. It will be flat and quick and reward the faster riders.Precautions: This is an open public area so riders will need to look out for the general public out walking (with dogs), jogging and cycling. There will be a controlled road crossing point, manned by officials that all competitors will need to use. Courses will also include some quiet suburban streets where normal road rules apply.Facilities: Event portaloos plus public toilets. Lots of cafés and food shops nearby for pre and post race refreshments. Presentations: At the Championships Dinner at Anglesea Hotel, 8.15 pm

2015 Australian Long Distance MTBO Championship – World Ranking EventDate: Sunday 8 November 2015 amEvent Assembly: Paddys Swamp, BambraCourse setters: Heather Leslie and John Gavens (Bayside Kangaroos)Start Times: from 9.00 am. Start Interval: 3 minMap: Scale 1:15000 Contours 5m Terrain: Mostly native coastal forest with a network of vehicle tracks, paths and single tracks through the forest. Well used tracks can get sandy. A section of private land with lakes, minor tracks and open land with erosion gullies, cliffs and other features will add some complex navigation. Precautions: There could be trailbikes in the area on the day, although organisers are yet to encounter any in our visits. Competitors will be passing through an old coal mine area where there are cliffs and steep embankments, but courses will be designed to keep riders away from these areas.Facilites: Event portaloos plus public toilet. Picnic tables. No nearby shops, but organisers can recommend a local winery for wine tasting and that also has coffee facilities.Presentation: ASAP post event

2015 Australian Middle Distance MTBO Championship – World Ranking EventDate: Saturday 7 November 2015 pmEvent Assembly: Eumarella Scout Camp, AngleseaCourse setters: Peter and Carolyn Cusworth (Bayside Kangaroos)Start Times: from 1.30 pm. Start Interval: 2 minMap: Scale 1:10000 Contours 5m Terrain: This course will be a combination of vehicle tracks, single track and open ground. It is undulating and mainly in coastal forest. Some tracks will be sandy and others rocky. Substantial time losses will occur if you spend too much time at checkpoints with magnificent views out to Aireys Inlet! This course will suit the ‘all- rounder’.Precautions: This is a popular mountain biking area so competitors will need to look out for other cyclists as well as other competitors.Facilites: Event portaloos plus public toilets. Nearby Anglesea has good cafés and food stores.Presentations: At the Championships Dinner at Anglesea Hotel, 8.15 pm

TECHNICAL INFORMATIONIOF Competition rules for MTBO events will take precedence where Australian MTBO Championship events have World ranking Event Status (Long & Middle). Australian MTBO completion rules will apply to the Sprint.

SportIdentSportIdent timing will be used for all events. All competitors will be required to use a SportIdent eCard. If you don’t own one, they will be available for hire when entering on Eventor under the Additional Services menu for $3 per event.

MapsAll championship maps will be mapped by Jon Sutcliffe and will use the IOF standard 4x2 track system and will conform exactly to current IOF specs.

Please note that during these events, it is only permitted to ride on tracks which are marked on the map or on open areas of ground shown which are shown on the map as open land (100% yellow) – symbol 401.

No MTBO events have been previously held in these areas and there are no existing orienteering maps.

• For those not wishing to ride in the Championship (age) classes, there will be a “Recreational” Open Class on Courses 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.

• Participation in Championship classes is restricted to members of IOF recognised orienteering associations, including all Australian state orienteering associations and affiliated clubs.

ENTRYOnline entry is now open via Eventor, Orienteering Australia’s online entry system. Payment can be made using Paypal or POLI.

Closing Date for entries is 26 October 2015. Later entries will incur a 50% surcharge.

Quotas: Please note that permits for the middle and long courses limit the number of competitors to 200 maximum. 40 places will be reserved for elite riders. Entries will be received on a first come basis. When the limits have been exceeded, riders will be placed on a reserve list and will be offered places if the elite quota is not filled or there are withdrawals.

VISIT EVENTOR TO ENTERUsing Eventor If you are new to Eventor, you first need to register and create a user account. There is a “Help & Support” section on the main Eventor calendar page if you need assistance.

Pay entry fees in a single transaction From the Eventor Event Calendar, tick the box on the right for all three events (four if you are doing the Youies Preamble) when you enter, and this will produce a single invoice for payment instead of 3 or 4 separate ones.

SportIdent Hire All competitors will require their own SportIdent e-card. They are available for hire under the “Additional Services” menu on Eventor for $3 per event. Alternatively if you wish to buy your own contact www.aussieogear.com or ph: 02 4384 5003.

Presentation Dinner To book and pay for the dinner on Saturday night, please select that Service when entering on Eventor. Note that dinner places are limited to 130. This service will be closed when the limit reached.

World Ranking Events – Special requirement for M/W21 Elite competitors The Organisers need to submit to the International Orienteering Federation the names and IOF ID numbers of everyone entered in the M/W 21 Elite classes for the Middle and Long events at these championships.

Elite class competitors who have competed in an Australian MTBO Championship in recent years will already have IOF ID, as will athletes who have been in our Australian team at World Champs.

To find your number go to eventor.orienteering.org and either login, if you know your details, or click on “Athletes” and put in your first and last names ONLY and hit the search button (*doesn’t seem to work if you complete the other fields).

If you don’t have an ID, you will need to press the “Create User Account” button on that page.

Once you have that ID number you will need to email it to [email protected]

ForrestFor those wishing to explore the Otways and Great Ocean Road, don’t miss the opportunity to ride at the Forrest trails with trailheads at Forrest and Yaugher. TRAVELFor those flying into Victoria, Avalon airport is very handy for these events with the warm-up event location within sight of the airport. At this stage, Jetstar is the only airline flying into Avalon.

MERCHANDISELook really smart wearing a souvenir 2015 Aus MTBO Champs T shirt available in an ash grey colour and in unisex sizing. Priced at only $25, you can order and pay for it in the Services menu in Eventor when entering the Middle Champs race. Orders need to be in by 14 October.
