This offer brings together the very best of Australia’s hand-craftedwines. Australia may have an image of an industrial wine producerbut the quality of wine from small-scale, family-run growers is outstanding. This is where The Society focuses its efforts.Furthermore, there has been a welcome shift in wine style: whites are fresher and lighter but still deliciously fruity, while the reds balance power with elegance.

As a reflection of the dynamism of Australian winemaking, we unveil many new wines here. Blind Spot is an inexpensiverange, exclusive to members, put together for us by brilliantyoung winemaker Mac Forbes. We think the wines are superb. To toast d’Arenberg’s centenary this year there are several raritiesoffered here for the first (and probably the last) time – quantitiesare tiny! And finally, some outstanding new vintage releases fromVanya Cullen, McHenry Hohnen and MadFish in Margaret River;Henschke, Peter Lehmann and Ben Glaetzer in the Barossa Valley;Kooyong in Mornington Peninsula and Mac Forbes in the Yarra.

The range is wide, as you might expect from a country this size, so to help navigate, there are five sections to explore. Additionally, five mixed cases (on pages 5 and 8) make short work of thiscontinent of contrasts. We want as many members as possible to taste these wines and so are offering a Australian ExcellenceMixed Dozen and an Unoaked Aussie Whites Case with £9.45 and £12.30 savings respectively.

D’ARENBERG:TOASTING 100YEARS OFEXCELLENCESince 1912, the Osborn family has tendedthe 19th-century vineyards at theird’Arenberg winery in McLaren Vale, SouthAustralia. It has taken four generations ofthe family to reach the milestone of onehundred years, an achievement matched by very few wineries in Australia andtestament to the outstanding quality andreliability of the family’s wines.

To celebrate this milestone, The WineSociety has worked closely with winemakerChester Osborn on two exclusive winesthat play to d’Arenberg’s strengths. ‘OneHundred for Four’ (100 years and fourgenerations) is the result: two wines, a shiraz and a ‘SGM’ (shiraz-grenache-mourvèdre blend), both delicious andoozing character, and priced attractively so as many members as possible can raise a glass to the family’s success. These winesare also available in a six-bottle mixed case‘New Aussie Reds’ for £48 including UKdelivery. See page 8 for more details.

We also release here for the first time the new 2008 vintage of Dead ArmShiraz, as well as two extremely rare, exceptional grenaches from unique sites in McLaren Vale.
