Welcome!When a wonderful orchestra
rehearses the great masterworks, collaborates with renowned soloists, and then has the opportunity to perform for you, we have the making of an extraordinary musical evening. That is “What Brings You Here” to a concert of the Austin Symphony Orchestra!
Each program is designed to bring out the best in us all, and I hope you will be renewed by the experiences. The greatest composers of concert music are represented on every subscription pair, and we also have the honor of giving the first American performances of a youthful work of Carl Orff.
We look forward to playing for you once again.

NIKOLAI RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade, Op. 35
Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Beyond the Score® series is back by popular demand! This season the ASO will feature Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Beyond the Score® is designed for both classical music aficionados and newcomers to look deeper into the world of classical music. The first half offers a multimedia examination of Scheherazade—its context in history, how it fits into the composer’s output of works, the details of Rimsky-Korsakov’s life that influenced its creation—sharing the illuminating stories found “inside” the music. After intermission, concertgoers return to the hall with newly discovered knowledge to hear a performance of Scheherazade in its entirety!
