Essentially we’ve looked at the markets from an offshore and onshore perspective, and strategically positioned the stock to maximise support for client needs. Our Perth office, given the number of offshore facilities operating in the Carnarvon, Browse and Bonaparte basins provides support for these oil and gas installations, some of which are still in construction, due to come on stream within the next 24 months. Special consideration has been given to the typical cable construction and compounds used for these facilities. For instance, material selection for the cable construction has taken into account the need for cables to be halogen-free. This eliminates the potential for halogens such as Chlorine to be present should the cables be affected or compromised by extreme heat. In an offshore environment asset owners typically specify material for cable sheathing as prescribed in IEC 60092 part 359. This standard covers electrical installations in ships and has been adopted by most offshore asset operators with manned operations. Flame retardant, low smoke and halogen-free compounds are utilised for sheathing such as SHF2 which is essentially a halogen free elastomeric or thermosetting polyethylene rubber. Our Perth facility has an expanded range of shipboard style cables which also comply with AS/NZS5000.1&3 and AS/NZS3000-2007. We have recently received the first consignment of instrumentation cables into our Brisbane warehouse and have standardised on a niche construction. Firstly, we have chosen to utilise XLPE insulation for all cable conductors across all sizes, including power cables because of the superior characteristics XLPE has over PVC. Secondly, the instrumentation cable voltage range is 450/750V to cover most applications. We stock screened and individual screened for those stringent applications. In addition, to standard black sheath cables, we also have blue outer sheath for those intrinsically safe circuits. Additionally, there’s a full range of Ex and industrial cable glands and accessories in stock to support all cable types. On shore cables Our Brisbane facility has an expanded stock of onshore style industrial cables, given the number of onshore LNG projects on Curtis Island for example and the volume of onshore gas gathering facilities and the general lack of offshore infrastructure off the East coast (excluding the Bass & Otway Basins).
