AURA CRYSTAL TC LONG L IFE
Aura Light has developed the first real Long Life metal halide
lamp. It is an efficient and sustainable light source for profes-
sional applications. The twin arc technology creates the long-
est lifetime on the market. It more than doubles the lifetime of
standard products and has a lifetime of 43,000 hours (avera-
ge), 30,000 hours (10% mortality), or seven years.
The lamp is suited for many different environments – from
shop lighting and indoor areas to street lighting and other
outdoor decorative segments. Aura Crystal TC Long Life has
an outstanding lumen maintenance; 80% at 17,000 hours and
reduces your maintenance costs by up to 50%.

Lifetime
The lifetime of Aura Crystal TC Long Life is 30,000 hours
(12B10 = 90% survival rate - 12 h switching cycle). In
professional applications it means seven to eight years of use.
The average life on this 12 h cycle is 43,000 hours.
In installations where lamp replacement is difficult and
costly, the long burning time of Aura Long Life lamps enables
more cost effective lighting and extends maintenance
intervals. Group replacement of lamps provides an optimal
control of operational costs and a uniform level of light in
installations. For economical and environmental reasons Aura
Light recommends group replacement of Long Life lamps.
Long Life guarantee
Aura Light guarantees 30,000 hours lifetime for Aura Crystal
TC Long Life lamps used in installations complying with the
relevant standards. Aura Crystal TC Long Life is developed
and manufactured in accordance with the standard IEC 61167.
Continuous strict quality control processes secure high
intensity discharge lamps of top quality.
Technical Information
Aura Crystal TC Long Life metal halide lamps are designed to
operate perfectly in existing installations. They are designed
for electronic operation, which gives a highly efficient lighting
solution. Dimming is possible according to the defined lighting
levels of the electronic ballast. The lamps work equally well
also with magnetic ballast and separate igniter. The lamps can
be placed in all burning positions. They are in compliance with
IEC 61167 and data are comparable with standard products.
Overview
Aura Crystal TC Long Life is a high pressure ceramic metal
halide discharge lamp developed by Aura Light. It is an efficient
and sustainable light source for professional applications. It
uses two ceramic arc tubes to reach an outstanding lifetime
extension.
Long Life technology
Based on the Aura Long Life technology for high pressure
discharge lamps two ceramic arc tubes are mounted in an
outer glass bulb made of hard glass which results in more
than twice the lifetime compared to standard products on the
market. The arc tubes are nearly circular and placed parallel at
an angle close to the light center in the middle of the bulb. The
robust holding system resists vibration which is important for
the long lifetime.
Lamps with two arc tubes always alternate which arc tube
is ignited, when switching on the lamp. Which arc tube ignites
is determined by the one that needs the lower ignition voltage.
This constant alternating function safeguards the proper
process for the lifetime and lumen depreciation.
Metal halide lamps have a very high temperature inside,
which means that they need a cool down time of five to 15
minutes before re-igniting in case of a net power breakage.
A lamp with two arc tubes has the advantage that the resting
arc tube is less warm and can ignite faster and light will be
available in shorter time. Therefore after a short net power
breakage the inactive arc tube will ignite in up to two minutes.
This means that the light will return much faster with Aura
Crystal TC Long Life, than with comparable single arc tube
lamps.

Aura Crystal TC Long Life offers superior colour quality and
is available in the colour 3000 K with colour rendering over 80
and colour 4200K with colour rendering over 90.
The tubular bulb is made of hard glass, which protects the
components inside and secures the functionality over the long
lifetime. The hard glass is lead free and absorbs UV radiation.
This lamp type must be operated in fully enclosed luminaires.
The luminaire must be able to contain hot fragments of
ceramic and glass in the unlikely event of lamp rupture.
The shape of the ceramic arc tubes allows the lamp to
operate with higher temperature which gives positive effects
on luminous efficacy and colour rendering. Ceramic arc tubes
also reduce the potential risk of corrosion.
High pressure discharge lamps require a run up time to
produce the full light capacity as the temperature and pressure
inside the arc tube need time to reach the full operating level.
This run up time is about four to five minutes.
All Aura Long Life lamps comply with the requirements of
the relevant EU directives, e. g. Eco-Design ErP and the RoHS.
They have to be collected and disposed at end-of-life according
to the WEEE directive.

Applications
Metal Halide lamps with single plug-in cap are used in dif-
ferent applications and in luminaires with deviating sizes. The
two main application areas are:
• Shop lighting, where often downlights are used. They usually
have a specific designed reflector and the lamps are often
positioned horizontally.
• Street lighting, where luminaires like lanterns are used and
where the lamps are installed in different positions.
