UPCOMING EXHIBIT
New Visions: Allied Artists West August 26th to September 24th 2016 Reception: Friday, August 26th, 7 to 9 pm Allied Artists West (AAW) is a select group of professional artists from Santa Clara County. Currently, there are 24 members in the group. To become a member, one has to undergo a rigorous selection process, requiring nomination by a current member followed by a presentation of past work to the entire group, who then vote to accept or decline the membership. Each member of AAW is widely recognized for their exceptional work, having received numerous awards, juried art competitions, or been published. Many of the members teach art and are often requested to demonstrate painting techniques to various art organizations. Allied Artists West is comprised of many acclaimed artists such as Veronica Gross, who was recently named one of Watercolor Artist’s 15 most recognized watercolorists after taking 1st place in the Watercolor West International competition; Yao-‐pi Hsu, who won best of show in the 2015 Triton Museum’sStatewide 2D Art Competition, entitling her to a Solo Exhibition at Triton; and Pat Suggs, who was given the title of Master Pastelist by The Pastel Society of America, to name a few. AAW engages in an active exhibition schedule throughout the year. They have a large pool of art that they are able to showcase on short notice as well as in long-‐planned shows. Their works are part of private and corporate collections nationwide. The New Visions exhibit will reflect a diversity of techniques and mediums, including watercolors, oils, mixed media, collage, and photography. The following artists will be participating in the exhibition: Belinda Lima, Carol Rafferty, Ed Lucey, Gary Coleman, Jane Hofstetter, Judy Welsh, Julia Watson, Karen Honaker, Karen White, Kay Duffy, Maralyn Miller, Michael Rogan, Pat Suggs, Rajani Balaram, Sam Pearson, Sandi Okita, Veronica Gross, and Yao-‐pi Hsu. President’s Message
I would like to start with thanking the officers who served on the board last year. About 20 years ago I was President of OHAG and I walked in the footsteps of Wanda Avery. Wanda told me what makes this country great is the volunteering spirit of its citizens who donate their precious time and effort for the greater good of the community. OHAG has continued to serve the community in that spirit. I welcome the new board and we will have a great year together.
Fremont is progressing in the way other Silicon Valley cities have. What we lack is an Arts Center. When recession hits, the first thing nixed from the budget is any thing to do with arts. When good times roll in, arts are the last thing to get on the bandwagon. We have to go to other cities to watch shows when we can bring that revenue to our city if we have a proper Arts center. It brings people together to share a common experience. I feel it's time that we take up this issue and revive the plans for an Arts Center in our city.
We have around 200 members and artists, we can be the voice for this cause. Please come forward with any ideas to start In that direction. I believe we need to leave this legacy to the future generation. Vimal Advani, President OHAG
