Greetings from the East
Wor. Don Cunningham
Brethren, our August Stated will be Junior Warden's Day, with Bro. Jake Crocker presiding in the East. Please come out and join
us for this busy Day, which will include voting on changing our Bylaws to avoid conflicts every Year with the Masonic Home Day
(October), and the Grand Lodge Communications (November) which fall on our Stated Meeting Days. One of our Fellowcrafts
will be examined in Lodge, his MM Degree being scheduled for Wed. 8/14. Bro. Mac Adams will be speaking on the Threat
Protocol as it applies to our Lodge. Wor. Paul Rinko will be making a Presentation as the DOW for District 15 B. The Philosophy
Discussion will be the Morgan Affair, and Masonic Conspiracies.
Thanks to all the Brothers who came out to assist Richmond Lodge No. 10 with their recent MM Degree held at Mason's Hall
on Tues. 7/30. Our Lodge had scheduled a Double EA the following Evening, so it was another busy week. We are encouraging
our Members to assist other Lodges in putting on their Degrees, as we have been receiving help from Members of other
Lodges. It is a more impressive event for the Candidates to see a room full of Brothers attending. Manchester No. 14 had to
reschedule an EA Degree (new date not known at this time). We plan to attend the Degree, so be on the lookout for an email
from the Secretary. Richmond No. 10 will be having an EA degree at Masons' Hall on Tues. 8/13, again please come out and
help support their newest Candidate.
At the July Meeting, it was good to see some Brothers who we haven't seen for awhile. We all live busy Lives, and are pulled in
many directions. I want to encourage all of our Members to participate in any and all the Events we have, if within the length
of your Cable Tow.
A Work Day has been scheduled for Sat. 8/3 (9-12). We are chipping away at various projects that need to be done, but there
are several things that still need attending to before we have the Grand Master's Visit and the Eliza Poe event. I want to thank
Bro. Stenstrom (Mason for 54 Years) for coming out on Sun. 7/28 to knock off 3 Projects on the list. If the scheduled Saturday
doesn't work for you, I would be happy for the Members to take on projects at a time better suited for them.
On Fri. 7/26, our Grand Master Hershey made his Official Visit to the 15th Masonic Districts, at the ACCA Temple. Almost 200
Guests were in attendance, and it was a lovely Evening for all. RW Wadkins, and RW Kidd's hard work in planning the Event
paid off, as it went smoothly. We should all be proud of being part of the 15th District. GM Hershey will be visiting Richmond
Randolph for our Stated Meeting on September 14th. For those of you who would like to assist in the planning, please contact
the Worshipful Master.
Masons’ Hall Open On Saturday 8/25
Richmond Randolph Lodge #19 will be holding
an open house at Masons’ Hall to share our
building, its story, and restoration efforts with
the broader public. This is a great opportunity
to engage the architectural and history-lobing
community as well as act as a forum for
people interested in masonry to learn more
about it. We will need volunteers to help set
up, shadow tour guides for security, greet
visitors, take donations, and a couple more
brothers to look tough. It’s typically a great
time and great fellowship. You never who you
may meet...
From the Senior Warden
“Are We a Club or a Lodge?” This question is posed by Most Worshipful Hershey in nearly every speech that he gives. He is rightly expressing the general
concern of many senior masons that newer masons do not get involved in the ritual. By not doing so, they are depriving
themselves of the real difference between masonry as a Club and masonry as a Lodge. Allow me to explain.
In his speech on being elected Grand Master of North Carolina in 2019, RW Dwight M. “Mack” Sigmon said, “in the installation
of officers we are taught to set a guard at the entrance of our thoughts, to place a watch at the door of our lips ...thereby
excluding every unqualified and unworthy thought, word, and deed…” What a great reminder to think before you speak or
act. If you didn’t attend the installation of officers, you wouldn’t know that this is in the Tiler’s charge. It’s a common-sense
idea, but the constant reminder of the idea through the ritual cements it in our daily lives.
One of my favorite moments in the ritual is when a candidate is reminded that he must be poor indeed and that he should
contribute to someone’s relief. How many times have you thought about this moment when approached by someone needing
your help? How would you remember this important masonic principle if you didn’t participate frequently in the Entered
Apprentice ritual?
My brethren, if you only attend our meetings and social functions, you are short-changing yourself. You didn’t join Richmond
Randolph – The Club, you joined Richmond Randolph – The Lodge. It’s so very easy to get involved. Just attend our
Wednesday night practice (or attend at a different lodge – every lodge’s practice date and time is in the green directory book).
To get started, ask to be taught a small part. It will not take much of your time but it will be a rewarding experience for you
and a great way to support your lodge.
By-Laws Change Vote Notice
At the next Stated Communication on August 10th at 9AM, we will vote to change Article 1 of our bylaws to avoid
having to get dispensations every October when we conflict with MAHOVA Family Day and November when we
conflict with the Grand Annual Communication. This bylaws proposal was first introduced at the July Stated
Communication on July 13th, 2019. Article 1 currently reads:
and will be changed to read:
