Dear Member Last month when curtains went down on the major event of South Indian plastic industry - IPLEX'18, everybody expressed satisfaction at the outcome. The untiring and selfless efforts of the entire team bore fruits in form of happy and satisfied exhibitors and visitors. The positive testimonials on all fronts is the greatest reward a member looks for and they surely got it.
The well attended Annual General Meeting at Ramoji Film City deliberated the yearly working of our association and issues common to all members. Past was discussed and future was planned. The members present unanimously bestowed on me the responsibility of President, to lead a talented team during this glorious Golden Jubilee Year. We will all together, make this a memorable year.
Our official bulletin is so very aptly called Plastic Times. Yes surely, the prevalent time belongs to plastics. Not only for industrial sector but it is plastic times for Agriculture, it is plastic times for Healthcare, it is plastic times for Housing, it is plastic times for Automobiles, it is plastic times for Communications, it is plastic times for Households, it is plastic times for every sector. It is good plastic times for all of us. Let us focus on modernisation and growth and vow to produce high class products on which a proud nation is built.

Environment Minister Harsh
Vardhan said Saturday a plant to
covert plastic waste into bio-diesel
will soon be made operational at the
Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) in
Dehradun.
He was speaking at the International
E-Waste Day event organised by the
I n t e r n a t i o n a l F i n a n c e
CorporationNSE 0.00 % (IFC).
"The plant has been set up at
Dehradun and it will be operational
by January end. The facility, which
will be run on pilot basis, is capable
of converting plastic waste into bio-
diesel. The model will then be
replicated across the country,"
Vardhan said.
The plant has the capacity to
convert one tonne of plastic waste
into 800 litres biofuel which will be
of highest quality and it can be used
in any diesel automotive vehicle,
according to a government official.
Vardhan said the whole country was
concerned about the problem of e-
waste and the government had
amended the existing rules to
ensure better management of e-
waste and bio-medical waste
through revised targets.
Plant to convert e-waste into bio fuel
to be made operational soonHarsh Vardhan
"Therefore, the contribution of
India to worldwide generation of e-
waste is 4.47 per cent. We are neck
deep into the problem and we have
already have got the rules amended
in 2018 based on discussions with
the industry and other stake
holders.
"On behalf of our prime minister, we
can promise to the whole world that
l i ke many o ther f i e l d s i n
environment... we will certainly try
to do our best on e-waste front," he
said.
He also urged those present at the
event to build a social movement
around 'Green Good Deeds'- an
initiative of the Environment
Ministry and make it successful like
the 'Pulse Polio' campaign.
The ministry has drawn up a list of
over 500 deeds to motivate and
involve the masses in environment
protection. It mainly focuses on
altering the behaviour to make it
nature friendly, he said.
On the occass ion , J apan ' s
Ambassador to India Kenj i
Hiramatsu, "I congratulate IFC on
the successful implementation of its
India E-waste Advisory Project, and I
am pleased to inform that
Government of Japan has been
supporting this project through the
Comprehensive Japan Trust Fund
since 2014.
"I hope that this project would
continue to contribute to the
implementation of the E-waste
policy in India," he said.
He also spoke about the importance
of promoting a circular economy to
achieve the goal of a sustainable
society.
E-waste is the world's fastest
growing waste stream and India is
the fourth largest e-waste producer.
At present around 95 per cent of the
waste is processed by the informal
sector, using practices harmful to
their health and the environment.
Half of the e-waste generated
globally is from personal devices
such as computers, screens,
s m a r t p h o n e s , t a b l e t s a n d

am extremely happy this time Hyderabad got an opportunity to conduct IPLEX 2018 event. IPLEX 2018 is gaining importance in Southern part of India. This will help Plastic Industry and Business got benefited to a great extent.
I congratulate the IPLEX 2018 team for their untiring efforts for making it a mega event that benefits entrepreneurs of all scales, - small, medium and large scale in plastic industry.
Plastics are the most popular choice for young entrepreneurs venturing into industrial activity.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States are drawing much attention & huge investmentsdue to most liberal, proactive, industry friendly policies of the respective governments. The progressive scenario surely gives a reason for IPLEX-18 to be at Hyderabad during August 2018.
Today, imagining a world without plastics is nearly impossible. Plastics are increasingly used across the economy, serving as a key enabler for sectors as diverse as packaging, construction, transportation, healthcare and electronics. Plastics now make up roughly 15% of a car by weight and about 50% of the Boeing Dream liner. Plastics have brought massive economic benefits to these sectors, thanks to their combination of low cost, versatility, durability and high strengthto-weight ratio. The success of plastics is reflected in the exponential growth in their production.
Today nearly everyone, everywhere, every day comes into contact with plastics - especially plastic packaging.
Thus, Plastics have become workhorse material of the modern economy. Their popularity has kept the industry growing for 50 years; with global production surging from 15 million metric tons in 1964 to 311 million metric tons in 2014and is projected to double to more than 600 million metric tons in the next 20 years. That means, their use has increased twenty-fold in the past half-century and is expected to double again in the next 20 years.
Due to their sheer pervasiveness and scale, some sectors are facing questions as to the direction they should take. This is particularly the case for plastics, which have tangible and substantial benefits, but whose drawbacks are significant, long-term and too obvious to ignore. All of us here are aware of how the NGOs, Governments, people's welfare groups and individuals are campaigning against Plastics and the imposition of ban on single use plastic items.
Single use plastic packaging product that represents 25% of total volume of plastics and around 95% of the value of plastic packaging material is lost to the economy. And while it's intended useful life is typically less than a year, the material lives on for centuries.
The cost of such after-use externalities for plastic packaging, plus the cost associated with greenhouse gas emissions from its production, is conservatively estimated at USD 40 billion annually - exceeding the plastic packaging industry's profit pool.
As the responsible citizens, it is our duty to develop a New Plastics Economy with innovative solutions that minimises the adverse impact of plastic usage. I appeal to the organizers of IPLEX and all the stake holders to work towards this goal - that is to preserve the environment while creating a New Plastics economy. Concrete and game-changing steps have to be taken by us to achieve the future we want.
Plastic packaging not only delivers direct economic benefits, but can also contribute to increased levels of resource productivity - for instance, plastic packaging can reduce food waste by extending shelf life and can reduce fuel consumption for transportation by bringing packaging weight down.
Given plastic packaging's many benefits, both the likelihood and desirability of an across-the-board drastic reduction in the volume of plastic packaging used is

clearly low. The solution is not banning the plastics but creating an effective after-use plastics economy is the cornerstone of the New Plastics Economy and its first priority.
The countries of the world need to establish a cross-value chain dialogue mechanism and develop a Global Plastics Protocol to set direction on the redesign and convergence of materials and formats.
When the government put in place afteruse systems firmly, it substantially improves collection, sorting and reprocessing yields.
Since I am also into the plastics business and as a responsible citizen, I would like to suggest few action points for the government to take up that benefits the people and the government without adversely impacting the industry: " The efforts that are made by governments, NGOs and
people to date to reduce the environmental impact are highly fragmented and sub-scale. There is a need for urgent action to move the industry into a positive zone. Plastics are irreplaceable and hence the solution is to reduce the economic cost of environmental impact.
" This can be achieved by creating an effective after-use plastics economy. This involves reducing the cost ofrecycling; increasing the quantum of products recycled/ reused, and controlled biodegradation for targeted applications.
" Strict measures are to be implemented to drastically reduce leakage of plastics into natural systems such as rivers, oceans and water bodies and other negative externalities.
With today's designs, technologies, and systems, these actions can be realized. For example, one recent study found that 53 percent of plastic packaging in Europe could today be recycled "eco-efficiently."
In overcoming the drawbacks of plastics, an opportunity beckons.
I hope the IPLEX 2018 will pave the way to spark a wave of innovation and to move the plastics value chain into a positive spiral.
On behalf of Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and on my behalf I wish IPLEX a great success.
