Mrs. Matheson’s Classroom News
We have had our first “Cam in the Classroom session with the Wildlife Center of Virginia. We had a variety of questions, from Edie, to the black bear cubs, and even questions about invertebrates (since we were learning about those in science) We were amazed to learn that American kestrels eat spiders and scorpions and with their amazing eyesight, can swoop down on them! We also saw a photo (see below) of Edie taking a sand bath. She likes both sand and water. Currently, Edie weighs 120 grams, which is 4.2 ounces , or about ¼ pound!
We were amazed to find out that there were 402 people who logged in and learned with us! We even had a person from Estonia!

SEPTEMBER 2013
In 4th grade, we learn many math skills which take the basic facts and uses them in more complex skills. Please have your child practice his/her basic facts, especially the multiplication facts. When the fact is easily recalled, then the remainders of the skill/steps are learned. Reading is also a skill which needs daily practice of 20 minutes (or more)
What’s on Tap . . . In September, we will be learning the following skills:
Reading: conflict/resolution in a story; different types of literature; and making connections between literature and the media.
Math: division (one digit divisor); multi-step word problems; read and write decimals and fractions.
Science: sources of water; water cycle; and weather
