    A Catechists Prayer

Lord God, you are the source of all love, truth, and goodness. You are the source of my being

    true path for my journey.

Grant to me the courage to live according to your Word.

Instill in me, through the gift of your Holy Spirit, the desire and the wisdom to share your love,

your truth, your goodness with my students.Help me to use my time to better prepare myself for this sacred responsibility.

For I so need to offer myself in your service with all of the patience, perseverance, and love that

you have first shown to me.

I ask no more than this, Lord, in the name of your Son, and my Savior, Jesus Christ.

    Amen.

Some New Missal Changes Begin Next Week

If you regularly read our parish bulletin, you are aware that some of the prayers we pray at mass have been re-translated. This translation from the Latin into English will be fully implemented with the start of our new liturgicalyear, namely the First Sunday of Advent (November 26-27, 2011). However, the Bishops Conference has approvedthe early implementation of the SUNG mass settings as early as September. Therefore, we will begin using the revisedtext for the Gloria NEXT WEEKEND.

The Gloria is one of the peoples prayers that is changing the most, and that is why we are beginning with it. The mu-sical setting which Father Peter and I have chosen to use is entitled, Mass for the Servant Church by Michel Gui-mont. Recordings can be found on YouTube and at giamusic.com. There are also many other resources regarding the

Revised Roman Missal on our website, www.ctklombard.org.

For some, change is considered a good thing; and yet for others, change does not come very easily. Change can stressus out at times. It can frustrate us, and even confuse us. Many of us have grown accustomed to the prayers at Mass. They havent changed since 1973, thats 38 years ago. We know them, many of us have grown up with them, in fact, most of us can even say them in our sleep! Like any in our lives, we may feel initially resistant to this one. But likethose changes, we will grow into the new prayers, and after a while, we will see that they werent such a big obstacle.

Yes, there are new words to some of the prayers of the Mass, but please recognize the fact that the Mass itself is notchanging. Our ritual prayer together remains the same as we know it today - as we love it today - as we live it today. The change of the texts comes down to linguistics its all about language and translation.

Reflection from Participant of Roman Missal Workshop

We all accept change in different ways. Some of us embrace it. Some of us fear it. Others are uncomfortable with

it. Nevertheless, we all face changes every day but seldom have the opportunity to understand why changes are being

made. This is not the case as we anticipate the changes in the Mass with the new Roman Missal beginning in Novem-

ber. We are fortunate to have many opportunities to learn why the changes are being made.

Here at Christ the King, as in many other parishes, trained clergy, staff and parish volunteers are offering workshops in

the coming weeks to explain the changes in the Mass. The homilies will begin to include explanations of the changes in

the wording of the liturgy. Soon we will begin singing the new lyrics to familiar hymns such as the Gloria and Holy,

    Holy, Holy.

With these changes will come a new awakening of what we say at Mass and the prayers said by the priest. We will all

pay more attention to the Mass and feel closer to God as we concentrate more fully on what we are saying and the

new prayers we will hear the priests say. These changes will bring us closer to scripture and the actual translation from

Latin. Above all, the structure of the Mass will not change so we can still enjoy the familiarity that the Mass brings to

    each of us.

As with all change, in a matter of time it will soon become comfortable to us and we will hardly remember how it used

to be. We are so fortunate to belong to a parish that is making the adaption to this change so easy for all of us! In the

next few weeks, consider attending one of the workshops that are being held.

I guess I am one of those who gets excited about change. I look forward to participating in the new liturgy in November

    and hope you will too!
