Once a year, Christmas descends onto the Walt Disney brand. From the theme parks to the cruise ships there is plenty of Christmas joy to spread around for the whole family to enjoy. From Very Merrytime Cruises aboard the Disney Cruise ships to celebrations in the parks like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party. I am currently planning a cruise for a family of 5 on a Very Merrytime Cruise; and did you know Disney’s very own private island Castaway Cay transforms into a winter wonderland, complete with decorations Christmas trees and maybe even some snow!

I have a few clients where the sea isn’t their thing, and decided to deck the halls at Walt Disney World. They will ring in the cheer with Queen Elsa as she transforms the idyllic Cinderella’s Castle into a sparkling snow dripped dream. Certain nights in November and December there is a separately

ticketed event, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, lets you experience special character interactions, special shows and a parade and cookies stops along the way.

At EPCOT, walk around the world showcase, stopping in the America pavilion and listen to the Candlelight Processional. In high school I had the honor to participate in this amazing show and I highly recommend it, it will become a family classic. There is no shortage of Christmas cheer around the Disney parks and ships. I love to help our Roseborough Explorers bring their family to Disney and enjoy hours of fun create memories filled with magic to last a lifetime!

If you ever want to talk about that magical mouse, give me a call.

My passion is enjoying fabulous food and wine while traveling. In May I cruised the Rhone River through France’s Burgundy and Provence regions on Ama Waterways -and it did not disappoint!

We began our adventure in Paris, where we spent 4 great days. Some of the highlights of our Paris stop was the Eiffel Tower, a sunset Seine River cruise, a 10 course 5 star meal and the Perre Lechaise Cemetery where famous celebs like Jim Morrison, Chopin and Oscar Wilde are buried.

We took a high speed train from Paris to Lyon, where out river ship was waiting for us. Stepping on to a river boat is a lot different than an ocean liner. There are only 150 passengers on board with 3 decks. The intimate setting makes it easy to get to know your fellow cruisers and you learn way around the ship pretty quick. After spending the night docked in Lyon and touring it’s sights, we began our journey downstream towards the Mediterranean Sea. We experienced 16 locks on our trip, as the river continually decreased and we cruised down to sea level on the other side of the locks.

On our next ports of Viviers, Tournon, Avignon and Arles, we toured dozens of churches and architectural marvels- some dating back to the 12th century. River cruising is a great way to leave the planning to the tour director and explore the local culture up close and personal. We docked right in the heart of the city allowing an easy walk to the most popular destinations. But the best part is that Shore Excursions are Included in the price! There were 3-5 excursions each day to choose from, each with a different level of effort- easy, moderate and active. We chose most of the active excursions and got to see the cities on foot with hikes up and down steep mountains, fast paced city walking tours and bicycle tours I’d recommend this Rhone River Cruise itinerary for adults who love good wine, great food, appreciate renaissance, gothic and roman architecture and enjoy a bit of world history mixed with catholic and christian religious history. You should be mobile and in fairly good physical health, as wheelchairs, canes and walkers would not do well on the ancient cobblestone streets and navigating the ramp to and from the ship I have done river cruises in Egypt on the Nile and in Germany on the Rhine. After this Rhone River Adventure in France, I am ready to take on the Danube for a visit to Prague and Budapest next. If you’re planning a river cruise, I’d be happy to share my experiences with you and help guide you to a great ship and itinerary that matches your travel personality.

Bob & I thoroughly enjoyed our trip from May 10 through May 22, 2017 on the Regal Princess out of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the sister ship to the Royal Princess where we traveled last year out of Barcelona, Spain. There were 3,600 passengers and 1,300 crew members. The ship was the size of three football fields with 17 decks. The ship’s décor was opulent. We danced every night to the most wonderful music played by several different groups. The shows were very professional. Seven countries were visited including; Denmark, Norway, Finland,

Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Germany. We took four Excursion trips with two in St. Petersburg including The Hermitage and the canal cruise. The guide was outstanding and knew her history extremely well. The Hermitage was built in the 14th century by the slaves. The paintings were exquisite! We had three days At Sea, which was full of activities including dance classes. The food and the service was excellent. We would recommend the Princess Cruise Line as one of the Top cruise lines. - Ann & Robert Wolfe

I had the privilege to plan this amazing adventure for a client & friend of mine. Jeff Higgins and his three adult children took a high-adrenaline, active tour around Ecuador that “speed” was the watchword of the entire trip. They biked near Cotopaxi (the Andean stratovolcano), rafted rushing rivers, trekked the lush foothills of Banos, and Rappelled off the side of cliffs as a family.

When asked what they thought of their extreme adventure, this is what they had to say. “I think our favorite location was Banos. There was a ton of stuff to do & we could’ve easily spent another couple of days there without getting bored. Kind of a hippie, ski-village vibe without the snow. Lots of outdoor activities, decent nightlife. It’s obviously geared towards tourists without being tacky or “touristy”. Still hidden off the radar, so easy to take in on a limited budget.

Doing the sporting activities in a different country was interesting because of the risk element & because of the level of cultural immersion. I’ve never felt so far from the US or what I considered “normal” life. But if anyone is going on this trip, they will enjoy themselves a lot more if they have at least a little experience with whitewater rafting, canyoning, or fairly intense hiking. You don’t want to be a rookie at everything.

You don’t need to be an Ironman triathlete, but you need to do more than walk the dog to get ready to make it through this trip. - Jeff Higgins

Japan with Brett Griffin &

Bishop RobbinsI absolutely loved the experience and everything about it. It made me breathless at times and at other times more excited to be alive than any of my previous trips. My favorite part, and Brett's, was going to the rural village of Mitaka near Oku-Tama. We walked along a hiking trail on the mountain near the river that flowed through the village. Mitaka also had several shrines, temples, and a grave yard of all the locals. The food was amazing. The first day we went to a soup shop and we had a weird fish/onion/noodle soup that was probably our least favorite of the whole trip. Beyond that we had several neat varieties including lettuce/pork noodles, seaweed soup, several times we had a bowl of white rice and more. It was truly a wonderful experience. - Bishop Robbins

Our most recent group of explorers just returned from an amazing adventure out West in which we visited Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Custer State Park, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole. Many of us were very impressed by the history and carving of Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. And I was incredibly intrigued by the Native American lure and legends of Devils Tower. While in Custer State Park our group was entertained by an open air jeep ride. I

absolutely loved seeing the home to over 1300 free roaming bison, elk, big horn sheep, pronghorn antelope and even those pesky, yet cute little prairie dogs. Check out the picture of our group at Devils Tower. I love our Roseborough Explorers, they really make the adventure.

KING PENGUIN

This regal bird is the second largest of the penguin species, with about 100,000 of them calling South Georgia Island home. Adults sport black heads and

vivid-orange ear patches.

ELEPHANT SEAL

This is the world’s largest seal. One bull was recorded to be 22.5 feet long and over 11,000

pounds. Males are heard to roar from their trunk-like appendages during mating season.

I have had the amazing opportunity to plan incredible journeys for clients of mine over my past 10 years at Roseborough Travel. WOW, 10 years of clients dream trips gets me thinking about some really interesting expeditions I have helped with. From gorilla trekking in Uganda to Cage diving in Cape Town South Africa, I have planned trips for the most adventurous. Barge cruises, river cruises, world cruises, and transatlantic cruises have given me some of the most well explored clients on the seven seas. And tours that bring my explorers into China, Russia, Egypt, Thailand, Vietnam, Saba or Borneo.

One such explorer I enjoy working with is Ms. Marcia Naber. She may possibly be the most adventurous human being I have ever met. She is amazing and I love seeing the world through her eyes. So I wanted to share with you one of her experiences.

TIFFANY’S TRAVEL CORNER

ADÉLIE PENGUIN

This iconic Antarctic species sports white-ringed eyes and a velvety black jacket. Endlessly entertaining to behold,

Adélies appear to leap from sea, walking onto shore with a pronounced waddle.

WANDERING ALBATROSS

With an average wingspan of 11.5 feet, these awe-inspiring birds can glide for hours at a time.

My next adventure is at the top of my live it list, and includes all of my faves- Wildlife, Wine, & Waterfalls- a group journey to South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe in September. I am grinning ear to ear writing these thoughts, I am so excited.

Beyond that, I will be journeying with another amazing group of Roseborough Explorers to destinations even more exotic. Heard of the Mekong? We will embark on a journey with Ama Waterways down the Mekong River visiting rural villages, historic pagodas, floating markets, and religious sites of Vietnam and Cambodia. Did you know: Angkor Wat, in Cambodia is the largest religious monument in the world? It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and they say the site was carved of sandstone that was pulled from the Holy Mountain. The story is so beautiful I cannot wait to see it for myself. We have space for a few more and would love for you to join us on this amazing journey.

From there, onto a destination worth repeating again and again- Spain. It is one of my favorite places in the world with the most amazing food and wine, beautiful people, clean streets, incredible architecture, unique art, and interesting entertainment. One thing I missed when I was there last was a traditional Flamenco Dance. The dance is comprised of three main elements: compás (rhythm), song (cante) and dance (baile) and dates back to medieval period for its entry into Spain. It was originally set to folkloric rhythmic hand clapping known as “toque de palmas”. The history alone gives this dance an interesting undertone, but the costume is the next best thing. The vibrant colors and ruffles of the dresses feed the flamenco fire and touch the hearts of spectators. While in Seville my dream will be granted on the Spanish Wonder trip because I will finally have the opportunity to experience the Flamenco dancers in a traditional tablaos - a small specially designed Flamenco theater. Join me for the fiery flamenco beat next September!

Amanda’S amazing adventures

Explorer Spotlight on Marcia What travel destination did you like the most is a question I’m asked a lot. The answer is Antarctica. A land of extremes and the most beautiful place I’ve visited.

From the incredible silence of certain places to the cacophony of half a million nesting penguins on a small island, and the thundering booms of ice bergs calving, it’s a place of wonder, joy and reflection. It’s also a wildlife lovers delight-several kinds of penguins and other birds, seals and whales are easily seen. Icebergs of every shape and size float by ranging in colors of pristine white to deep blues. Research centers and historic explores huts have great insight into Antarctica’s future and past. Colorful tiny flowers hug the ground and algae clings to the ice in bright hues of red, yellow and green.

Some cruise ships just skirt the coast with an occasional landing of a few minutes. My trips with Abercrombie & Kent, was an expedition cruise in which passengers spent a lot of time ashore hiking and exploring. We also participated in scientific studies and experiments.

Yes the weather can be harsh and the seas rough, but with proper preparations and clothes an Antarctica summer visit is a life changing experience, memories of which bring longing to return. As Frank Wild, a polar explorer said nearly 100 years ago “Once you had been to the white unknown you could never escape the call of the little voices.”

Cathy’s CornerWhy do I want to visit Poland and Germany? Why not?! Both are beautiful countries in the heartlands of Central Europe. We’ll see castles and modern cities - full of art and other cultural achievements. Both countries are full of history - some of that history is very tragic but there is so much more that these countries have to offer. The food should be interesting in Poland; I really do want to have a pierogi (that’s meat stuffed dumplings) and to have a real bratwurst in Germany - oh and we cannot forget the strudel!!! The currency exchange rate is very good in Poland - roughly 3.5 zloty to 1 US dollar - and Germany is on the Euro which is .86 to 1 US dollar, so if you’re looking for a cuckoo clock, porcelain or amber which is known as “Baltic Gold” we might be able to find those items for you as we explore some of the wonderful market squares that we will be visiting throughout this unique and different tour of Poland and Germany.

Debbie & Jim enjoyed an Oceania Cruise to Greece, Malta and Italy - “Our trip was fantastic and couldn’t have been better! Both Jim and I were so pleased with everything. The Oceania ship was incredible and far exceeded our expectations. Everyone we met who cruised all the time said we had started at the top!! It was very relaxing onboard, the food was amazing, the service couldn’t have been better, and the tours were top notch!!! I would recommend Oceania to anyone who wants an incredible experience. I can’t imagine a ship that would be any better. Thanks again for everything. It was our “trip of a lifetime!!”

We saw the Parthenon, Athena’s temple, the temple of Zeus, Mars Hill (where Paul preached to the Athenians), and the oldest theater in the world. It is amazing to think these places were erected before Christ. The workmanship, artistry, and design are incredible!!! The Parthenon is under renovation, to repair damaged parts, so there are portions of the building all over the ground.

“We took a walking tour of old Mykonos, with its narrow streets (done intentionally to deter pirates), saw a pirate house, little Venice (houses right on the water that look like Venice), churches, shops, windmills, and a 15th century wood burning bakery still in operation.”

SAILING TO CUBA!

As a travel consultant that specializes in “tailor made” vacations, I most enjoy arranging itineraries for my clients specific to their detailed requests. From totally independent getaways to something slightly more structured that may include a host in each city, there is a perfect holiday plan for everyone.

Recently, I went back across the pond for a month to visit family and celebrate my granddaughters christening and my mothers 90th birthday. In between celebrations and parties my husband and I managed to visit Rome and the Greek Island of Kos. While in Kos we went on a boat trip to the quaint island of Kalymnos. I truly adore the Greek taverns lined along the harbor front. The locals are always so welcoming and it is a lovely place to

kick back and watch the world go by.

Apparently, I am not the only one who loves Greece and Rome however. While I was across the Pond I had 2 families of Explorers traveling to Greece and Italy as well. Michael and Vickie had an extremely special experience while in Rome, as they held an audience with the Pope on their journey to the Vatican. Receiving Papal Blessing, hearing readings and teachings, and fulfilling a lifelong dream.

WORLDWIDE Adventures WITH WANDA & Cruising with Carlton

Have you heard the story of the dash? When we die someone will speak about their memories of us, we will have a tombstone that shows a birth date (the beginning) and an end date. But what happens in the middle is up to us. The way we live our DASH is important. Not the things we have, but the experience we had during our time spent on this earth. When Carlton and I retired we took this belief system to heart and wanted to make the most of our DASH together. So, we decided to see the world. Carlton and I took a 111 day cruise onboard Holland America Line. We left January 4, 2017 and returned April 26, 2017 in and out of Fort Lauderdale. While on our cruise we were scheduled to visit 36 ports of call, but as it sometimes happens, two of the ports were missed due to weather. We loved all of the Ports but we especially loved Japan - the cities were extremely clean and the people were very friendly and helpful to us as visitors. Oman was another favorite, we fell in love with the people. Kindness is very important to them. When asked why we chose to do a Grand Voyage, it is really because we could see as much of the world as possible without having to pack and unpack. Additionally though, I really do not love to fly. So a cruise was perfect to go worldwide. I posted pictures of our journey on facebook and our blog while we were traveling and so many other cruisers realized that there was a distinct difference between a normal cruise and a grand voyage or World Cruise. the cruise line really rolls out the red carpet on the World Cruise for its guests. Holland America Line had Gala Night while onboard our cruise. They gave us beautiful gifts such as luggage, Waterford Crystal Frames, Chocolates, World Cruise Logo Items, Dinner with the Captain and more. You might be thinking “I couldn’t do 111 days on a cruise” but there is so much to do on top of the amazing ports of call. There are several parties for various occasions, crafts, entertainment, and time to relax when you aren’t spending your time in port. The dining experience is above any other cruise I have been on. And lets face it, when you go on a ship for 111 days, you meet people. I met some amazing friends and people who have been on several grand voyages in their lifetime. If you wonder why you should consider a Grand Voyage my answer is this: It is a trip of a life time and exceeds any thing you could imagine. The memories you create and bring back you will cherish forever. So what are you waiting for? Start creating those memories! I will be doing a Spotlight on Travel September 13th with Holland America and will be happy to share my experiences with you.

Join us for Spotlight on travel September 13th at 4:30 to learn about how YOU can sail the world.
