Members in the News AAA North Penn donated DNA/Fingerprint kits to the Elm Park Church to be distributed at their first-ever Col-lege and Career BOOT (Building Our Outstanding Teens) Camp. College-bound high school students were invited to attend the camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 22-26 at Elm Park United Methodist Church, 712 Linden St., Scranton. Co-hosted by the church’s Family Life Ministries and NEPA Career and College Counseling Associates, the pro-gram is designed to help students prepare for life after high school, equip them to make sound decisions about their program of study and assist with identifying poten-tial fields of employment. Teens learned how to choose a major based on a career interest and explore options avail-able to them after college. Participants walked away with a list of local, regional and national scholarships. The program featured a series of supportive workshops on topics such as standardized test preparation strategies, choosing majors and careers, finding the right college and application preparation, applying for financial aid and scholarships, resume and essay writing, leadership devel-opment and skill building, Internet safety and protocol and dorm life, roommates and packing for college. We are very pleased to announce Jeannette Ways-Rivera, a Housekeeper in Pocono Medical Center’s Housekeep-ing department assigned to the Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit, has been named the Dedicated Employee of the Month for July, 2015. Jeannette was nominated for her compassion and dedication to her patients. Below is an excerpt of the nominations submitted by co-workers on Jeannette’s behalf:

PMC”. When asked for a specific story, one co-worker noted a patient who only spoke Spanish and was extremely anxious and nervous about going for a test. Jeannette, who was this patient’s room attendant, saw how nervous she was and offered to walk down with her to the proce-dure room to help her remain calm. Her co-worker notes “she went above and beyond to make sure that the patient was comfortable and had a positive experience. I was really impressed with her simple but kind gesture.” The 29th annual Pocono State Craft Festival will be held August 22 & 23, 2015 at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg PA. We are very pleased to announce Roger Kleiber and Amanda Sereyka, both Radiation Therapists in Pocono Medical Center’s Cancer Cen-ter, have been named the Dedi-cated Em-ployees of the Month for August,

2015. Roger and Amanda were nominated for their com-passion and generosity to their patient. Below is an ex-cerpt of the nomination submitted by a co-worker on their behalf: “I wanted to share a wonderful gesture of kindness by your staff therapists Roger and Amanda. A cancer center patient previously lost his leg in an accident, and is now fighting cancer. During a session one day, the discussion of scrub pants came up and the patient noted how easy it was for him to wear them due to his prosthetic leg. The next day, Roger and Amanda went through their personal scrubs and each brought a few pairs to the patient so he didn’t have to purchase any. This is truly an act of generosity and kind-ness.” United Way of Monroe County (UWMC) and Family-Wize Community Service Partnership, an organization focused on improving the health and well-being of indi-viduals, families and communities, today announced that local residents saved $850,345 on prescription costs, as a result of the successful partnership between the two or-ganizations. The Stroud Area Regional Police Department is one of the largest Regional Police Departments in Pennsylvania serv-ing a population of over 35,000 residents with a coverage area of approximately 39 square miles. Our area encom-passes Stroud Township and the Boroughs of Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg. Every 5 years the Department is required to replace our bulletproof vests (body armor), at the cost of more than $80,000. In 2010 the Stroud Area Regional Police Commis-sion Foundation (SARPCF) began the SARPD Vests Golf Tournaments to help defray the cost of these life protecting vests. The fundraiser helps to defray the costs of the vests while helping to preserve the Police Departments operat-ing budget and allowing us more funds that are necessary to adequately protect and serve the region. According to the National Institute of Justice, the lives of more than 3000 Officers have been saved by body armor since the mid 1970’s. Our Officers risk their lives every day for the safety of our community. We hope you will provide your support in helping to keep them safe! If you would like to golf PLEASE sign up early!
