A Message from the

Chamber CEO... The Tracy Chamber of Commerce has a new mobile app available to promote all the exciting details and attractions for the Taste of the Valley Art and Food Festival that will take place September 6th & 7th in Downtown Tracy. The Chamber hopes to use this new technology to engage better with consumers before, during and after the festival. In an effort to maintain relevancy for the app beyond the event, the Chamber has expanded the app to also include information about other major

Chamber events such as the Winter Gala, 4th of July, Golf Tournament, as well as mixers and coffees. The Chamber wants to stay connected with its followers and provide them with information on upcoming events year-round through the new events mobile app. The community can now download the event app by visiting the www.tracychamberevents.com website with direct links to both apple and google play markets to download the app. In addition to promoting the event schedule, festival map, contests, etc. the app will also promote vendors and sponsors that are supporting the event. Currently, the Chamber is putting an emphasis on recruiting art vendors to display their art pieces at the festival and has announced a special discounted rate of $200 for artists with a money back guarantee. Any local artist who becomes a vendor of the Taste of the Valley Art & Food Festival and is not satisfied with their participation at the event, can request a refund, no questions asked. The festival committee has decided to offer this special as a way to show their commitment in making this festival a success for the artists, attendees, and everyone involved. With the focus being on art and food, the Chamber hopes to secure unique and appealing vendors the crowds will enjoy. Vendor spaces for the festival are still available for other categories such as food, crafts, commercial and non-profits. Interested vendors can download the vendor application from the website, www.tracychamber.org. For more information about the Taste of the Valley Arts & Food Festival, visit the official event website, www.tracychamberevents.com In addition to the mobile app, the Chamber is also asking the community to “like” the Tracy Chamber Events Facebook page where more updates will be provided on a regular basis. This new festival will be marketed on all levels including billboard advertisements, radio ads, social media facebook/twitter ads, TV commercials, and more so stay tuned for more information on the event Please support the Chamber’s efforts in building awareness about the festival by downloading the events mobile app!

Hire Me First Program Develops Future Workforce

In the 2013-2014 school year the Hire Me First Program influenced 996 students’ futures. This school year we were able to hold 7 job readiness workshops that saw 677 students participate. The students that participate in the job readiness workshops were exposed to employer expectations, resume building skills and job seeking skills. In addition to the job readiness

workshops we also saw 511 students participating in mock interviews at four different High Schools. These students participated in an interview with a business professional from our community. They were then given feedback regarding the interview as well as their resumes. This experience is so beneficial to students because it not only gives them an idea of what to expect in a real interview, but it also allows them the opportunity to improve their interview skills before even entering the workforce. Finally this year 225 students took advantage of the internships that are offered through the Hire Me First Program. These students worked with employers throughout Tracy to build both transferable skills as well as job specific skills. These internships benefit students in a variety of different ways. Students gain work experience which they are encouraged to add to their resumes, therefore increasing their chances of gaining employment. While some students are looking to jump start their careers, other students participate in internships to explore their career options. The Hire Me First Program allows students to participate in internships in whatever field they are interested in exposing them to a job of their choosing. For some students this solidifies their career choice and is a huge motivator to complete their education and join the field as soon as possible. Other students may find that the work field they though they loved just isn’t for them. For those students realizing this in High School can save them countless years and thousands of dollars going to school for a career they find out they don’t like. These students are also offered an opportunity to participate in additional internships so they can find out what it is they truly love to do. Although internships are completely voluntary they are required to receive certification from the Hire Me First Program. This school year 211 students received this prestigious recognition. In order to receive certification through the Hire Me First Program students must complete all activities offered by the program as well as certain academic benchmarks and community service hours. Students are encouraged to add the Hire Me First Certification to their resumes as well as on college applications to show the dedication they have displayed in completing the program. Whether students are interested in jumping straight into the workforce or continuing their education, the Hire Me First Program prepares students for a new chapter of life. If you would like more information about how your business can offer an internship to a student, or you are interested in volunteering in mock interviews, please contact Hire Me First Program Coordinator, Alyssa Mupo at [email protected] .

Member Spotlight… Studio One Dance Center Studio One Dancer Touches the Heart

BUSINESS QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

“There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs” - Unknown

It all started as a concept, however, with the diverse talents of the staff members, Studio One Dance Center transformed into reality. The staff has witnessed the hardships that come with dance within and outside of the community. With this knowledge they were able to eliminate those and

provide a recreational and competitive dance studio for all levels. The management and organization of Crystal Aguirre and Nora Fermin established an efficient business directed by the teaching of dancers Hailey and Kaela Angelo.

Studio One Dance Center is aimed for all youth of the community and beyond. It's accessible prices eliminate any fears that have prevented parents from enrolling their children in dance. Along with this, the staff creates a family friendly environment to nurture the understanding and passion that comes with dance. There are many different styles of dance that cater to every need and desire such as jazz, tap, contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, break dancing, tumbling, and strengthening and flexibility. Your dancer is allowed to try one free week of classes to discover where they aspire to be. Whether it be So You Think You Can Dance or Shake it Up, our teachers will provide a modern day take on dance as well as a traditional one.

Studio One Dance Center will open in late August at 450 W. Larch Road in suite #6. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions at [email protected].
