All of our classrooms have beautiful student work samples, high quality lesson plans ensuring our students have multidisciplinary experiences, and the atmosphere is electric. I would like to welcome our elementary school staff back for the 2013- 2014 school year and proud to inform staff that we have over 260 students registered for the school year and the addition of 3 rd grade. We have completed renovations on the lower level and we have 3 new classrooms LL20, LL21, and LL22. Those classrooms are the new 2 nd grade rooms and an addition 1 st grade classroom. The SJA Golf Outing was held on July 22 at Tuck-A-Way Country Club and it was an overwhelming success. We had over 100 golfers and raised almost $60,000 for the SJA program. I would like to personally thank all of the staff and students that helped with the event. As many of you know, we began our Young Star process and it should be completed by the 3 rd week of August. We are very confident that we will once again be rated a 5 star program. In my opinion regardless of what the outcome, I believe we are 5 stars and no one can tell me different, because we have the best staff, quality programs, and an excellent facility for our youth and families. Let’s finish our summer programs strong and remember to also enjoy your many blessings of family, health, and friends. Spotlight on Nevada Wesley Meyers

Nevada with daughter, Maya, and son, Sammy. One look at the above picture and you can tell that her children mean the world to our Admissions Coordinator, Nevada. She loves to learn new things, to keep busy, and to find meaning in her work and in her life outside of St. Joseph Academy. Nevada has worked at SJA for more than five years and recently graduated from Marquette University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. This year she simultaneously worked at Aurora Family Service offering individual and family therapy. She feels that the best part of being a counselor is being able to be part of the client’s journey and experience their transformation while it is happening. In her role as the Admissions Coordinator, she works often with families and sometimes staff when they are in need of community resources. She understands that by helping parents, she is giving children a better chance to succeed. Nevada believes that she was “put here to help others” and while she works at SJA, she gets to do that on a daily basis. The mission and values of SJA align with her personal values and goals. In her spare time, Nevada enjoys drawing, painting, writing poetry and playing the piano. She likes to listen to music and to do physical activities outdoors, both alone and with her

children and family. She is happy when traveling and would someday like to visit the monasteries of Tibet to experience that culture. All in a Day’s Work for This President/CEO/Principal

What a good sport! At the end-of-the-year school picnic, everyone it seemed, adults and children alike, wanted to see if Mr. Beadle would really take a pie in the face from one of his students. And sure enough, for a really good cause, Mr. Beadle let soon-to-be-second-grader, Estefani Acosta-Suarez “smoosh” his face with a whipped cream pie. Teachers, Araceli Soto, Samantha Jahns and Kelly Chiriboga organized various games to engage the students at Kinnickinnic Park. Ring toss, darts with balloons, a cake walk and the pie throwing contest were just some activities that the children enjoyed. While having fun, the teachers raised $197.00 which they designated to be used to begin to supply the uniform exchange “closet” for the next school year. Luis Robledo donated the setup and use of several “bouncy houses” which are always fun for the children. All present enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, popcorn and juice. Mr. Beadle presented awards to all the students who merited perfect attendance or honor roll status for their grades throughout the year. On-Line Valuable Tool Available to All Employees
