Lawn of Highfield Hall Blue Grass Festival Sunday, August 4, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm Free admission

Bluegrass on the Lawn concert at Highfield Hall

offers free, foot‐stomping entertainment for the entire family. Headline band Chasing Blue is a hot young ensemble from the Berklee College of Music that has become favorites of the national bluegrass circuit. Last year they brought down the house and this year we’ve brought them back as our headliners! They’ll be joined by Four Bridges, a New England based bluegrass band that offers both original and traditional tunes. Our local Falmouth Fiddler’s will complete the roster, offering their own spin on bluegrass, folk and acoustic tunes. Guests may bring a picnic supper, or enjoy a tasty treat from one of the food

vendor’s on‐hand. And if it rains, no worries! A huge tent will be pitched offering shelter to all. Transportation is on your own

Join Norine Piscatelli as we explore Federal Hill and Providence RI. Norine will explain the history of Providence RI. After a brief stop at the Visitor Information Center we will proceed to Federal Hill. We will meet Cindy Salvato at DePasquale Plaza. Cindy is an Executive Pastry Chef, and has been running small group tours on Federal Hill for over ten years. Cindy will talk about the culture and history of Federal Hill and take us through two Italian specialty shops, she will give us cooking (secrets, tips and tricks) and provide a lesson in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pasta. You will have free time to shop on the Hill before we cross town for lunch. The Critical Path Committee will host a community

meeting in the Ballroom on Monday, August 5 at

4:30 at which it will discuss the upcoming election

of a resident-elected Board of Governors. The

committee will outline the issues involved in the

election and present its suggestions on how to

address those issues. Owners are encouraged to

attend and their input will be welcome.

Southport Garden Club

The "Hats Off to Summer" program in June was a huge success due to the Garden Club members who came in their beautiful, decorated hats. We want to thank all the ladies who did such a fine job showing off their creative talents. Thank you also to Janet Johnson who served as judge for the three prizes that were awarded. Southport Singers

The Southport Singers will be resuming practices on Tuesday, September 24th at 4:00 p.m. in the Ballroom. We welcome new singers and all of last year's group. No auditions, just a love of music. We had a great past year, putting on four shows; and we hope to be as active again this year. Already in the plans, is a Broadway Sunday afternoon, scheduled November 10th at 2:00 p.m. More details to follow.

Southport Quilters Will be taking a break until after Labor Day! Normally every Tuesday, 1-4:00pm in the Arts and Crafts Room

Chess Club 1st & 3rd Tuesday, Arts and Craft Room 7:00pm

Please bring a small portable chess set, if you have one. The club is open to all levels of players. No lessons are available, but members do offer lots of helpful hints to players who want to improve their game. The games are not competitive and there are no tournaments, just a relaxing evening and an opportunity to keep your brain active. Please join us -- just show up and have some fun with us.

4th Annual Triathlon Planning Meeting Volunteers Needed…Please Join Us Thursday, August 8, 4:00pm, Sewing Room

Over the past three years this has been a very successful event at which residents have had a lot of fun and many laughs. Each year we make tweaks to improve upon the year before and keep things interesting. If you are unable to attend the meeting but are willing to help in some way please call Julianne at (774)238-6141 to let her know prior to the meeting. That way we can be sure that we will have enough help to run the Triathlon. The Triathlon will be held on Sunday, September 22 with a rain date of Sunday, September 29.

$36 for the 2 day/week 6 week session At least 5 paid participants needed to begin class. Stephanie will lead you through range of motion and strengthening moves from head to toe. Water exercise is a gentle way to exercise joints and muscles. Water supports joints to encourage free movement and also acts as resistance to help build muscle strength.

Stand Up Paddleboard Experience Friday, August 23, 8:45am Meet at 15 West Bay Rd. in Osterville $40 ($5 will be refunded if 8 or more pay) Limited to 15 participants

Come experience one of the fastest growing sports worldwide. Stand up paddling comes from Hawaiian heritage back to the early days of Polynesia. It is easy to learn and great for improving core strength and balance. The boards are wide and stable. You will be on the water for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Your experience will begin with a lesson and will be followed by time to practice your newly acquired skills and explore under the guidance of Amy, who will make you feel comfortable and safe.

Fitness Classes Aerobics:

A high energy cardiovascular workout set to upbeat music. Class begins with a warm-up which is followed by high or low impact depending on which you chose. The moves and combinations are taught during the workout. The class ends with an abdominal strengthening session followed by a relaxing full body stretch.

Intense Muscle Conditioning: After a brief warm-up you will be led through

challenging muscle conditioning exercises using free weights and resistance bands. All of the muscle groups used in class will be stretched before class ends.

Please bring hand weights and a resistance band.

Total Body Stretch & Strength: During this class free weights and exercise bands are used to build muscle mass and tone strengthening the bones from the inside out. Increasing the percentage of one’s muscle mass also increases one’s metabolism. This class can be followed either standing near or seated in a chair. Modifications are demonstrated for exercises for which they may be appropriate. The class begins with a brief warm up and ends with a thorough full body stretch. Please bring hand weights and a resistance band.

Step Aerobics: Learn various moves and combinations stepping

up and down on and around an aerobic bench. This highly aerobic workout begins with a warm-up and ends with a cool down and stretch.

Water Aerobics: Water eases the pressure on one’s joints and provides resistance for muscle toning as well as cardiovascular exercise. Exercises are performed in the shallow and deep end of the pool, although you may chose to remain in one or the other throughout the class. During the cooler months class is held in the indoor pool and when the weather allows, class moves to the outdoor pool.

Yoga for All: Yoga exercise work towards increasing your flexibility, balance and strength. This class helps increase your body awareness and mobility. It is taught in a way that provides you with the opportunity to be calm and reflective leading to an overall sense of well-being. Class begins with a warm-up to heat the muscles and prepare the body for stretching and ends with a calming meditation. Modifications of poses are explained and demonstrated throughout the class. Please be sure to bring your yoga mat, yoga straps, a yoga block and a small pillow.

Fitness Equipment Introduction

Resident may receive an orientation to our two Fitness Rooms. During the orientation you will learn how to use the fitness equipment that interests you. Customized directions with your individual settings will be created for you during the orientation. Schedule your orientation with the Health & Wellness Coordinator at the Activities’ Desk.
