In celebrating ten years in the making, it was definitely “Time For Wine” at the year’s
WineFest. Guests of the outdoor wine tasting event were offered more than two
dozen wineries and over 180 varietials of Colorado wine. The majestic valleys of Colo-
rado's Rocky Mountains are blessed with warm days, cool nights and low humidity —
perfect conditions for the cultivation of wine grapes with the complex character and
chemistry required to produce award-winning wines. The word that Colorado is pro-
ducing some really great tasting wine is getting around. Our preliminary numbers are
indicating that we are up on our ticket sales over last year by 22.7%. And we sur-
passed our best year (2010) sales by 1.7%.
Hats, Hats, and more Hats!
It was the year for hats.
Temperatures were warm
and breezy at times through-
out the day, but guests were
prepared and ’stylin’ with a
wide variety of hats on dis-
play. Whether you wore a
fedora, cowboy, sun or straw
hat you were definitely part
of the “IN” crowd at the
WineFest.
Guests enjoyed live entertainment from two amazingly talented
bands. The day opened with a Castle Rock based band. The John Saunders Band captured the combination of the laid back
rhythms of Jack Johnson and solid drive of Big Head Todd and the Monsters, creating a unique sound they call “The Colorado
Groove”. The party continued well into the evening with Waitin’ On Ray… this 6 piece band played those eclectic songs of
yesterday and today with a flavor all their own and the crowd was apparently feeling it. At times you could see festival goers
dancing and grooving alongside each other. For the more serious wine aficionados, wine seminars and cooking demonstra-
tions were offered on the Home Depot pavilion. Fabulous food trucks and multiple Culinary, Lifestyle, and Artisan Vendors
truly meant there was something for everyone at this year’s Castle Rock WineFest. Save the date for next year’s Castle Rock
WineFest on July 19, 2014.
One guest blogged of her experiences at the WineFest. Posted by D' Vine Wine Time in WINE TASTING: I can honestly
say…..not one wine I tried was “bad” or “un-drinkable”. Colorado winemakers are not messing around with odd varietals or
cheap drinking wines. Their wine is quality and most of the winemakers I met are focusing on varietals that grow well in the
Palisades area outside of Grand Junction, CO
~ such as Pinot Grigio, Viognier and Riesling.
A few stand outs for me were Allis Ranch
Winery, Creekside Cellars and Desert Moon
Vineyards. Allis Ranch Winery is located in
Sedalia, CO. Mainly producing Rhone Style
wines; they are a boutique winery focusing
on small-lot vinification to create focused,
hand-crafted wines. They make some deli-
cious Syrahs as well a a very nice Viognier.

Ambassador of the Month-Brock Goodwin
Brock Goodwin, along with his wife Lisa and their two
children Gabrielle and Blake, have been residents of
Castle Rock since 2000. Brock has been involved in
the Chamber’s Ambassador program since 2002. He
has been elected twice as Chair of the Ambassadors,
served as an Advisory Member to the Ambassadors,
and was voted Ambassador of the Year in 2005.
Brock has also served on the Chamber’s Board of Di-
rectors since 2005 and currently chairs a sales lead/
referral group. Ask Brock Goodwin the secret to his success and he will im-
mediately single out the networking and business development opportuni-
ties that come with Chamber membership and Chamber involvement. As a
Financial Advisor with Mutual of Omaha specializing in working with small
businesses on their insurance and retirement planning, Brock also provides
discounts for Chamber members on disability insurance, long term care in-
surance, and some life insurance products. Brock enjoys being connected to
the community through his activities in the Chamber and is honored to be
recognized as this month’s Chamber Ambassador of the Month. When it
comes to relationship building, both personal and professional, Brock will
enthusiastically state “the Chamber has opened up doors and opportunities
that might not otherwise have existed were it not for my involvement in the
Ambassador’s program”. Brock states that being an Ambassador “is an
honor and a privilege that allows me to connect to the Castle Rock commu-
nity”. Thank you Brock, for your dedication and support of the Castle
Rock Chamber.

Local Search Marketing Insights by Webolutions
Thursday, August 15, 2013
8:30 am to 10:30 am Castle Rock Chamber
"I need an affordable, easy way to get my business to show up on the Inter-
net. I need more leads. I need better ranks for my website on the Google
search."
If you're thinking or saying these things-and if you're not, you probably should be--join Webolutions Director of New Media Strategies Mike Han-bery for this free seminar: Local Search Marketing Insights by Webolutions.
Local Search Marketing is an affordable and increasingly necessary way for businesses of all sizes to get found on the Google (and Yahoo and Bing) searches. In this seminar, learn from Internet marketing experts about this crucial element of marketing your business online.
As you've probably noticed, major search engines now combine "local" and "organic" search results. On Google, these are the list of A-G "thumbtacks" that show up for search results:
Getting your "thumbtack" to rank high on Google for relevant search terms is important, but Local Search Marketing is much more than that! Join Mike to learn Local Search Marketing fundamentals and how your business can construct and maintain the key elements of success, in-cluding defining, identifying and maximizing:
•"Citation" websites
•"Inbound links," which ones your business acquire and in what order of priority
•Local and Industry online directories
•And more.
At this seminar, Webolutions will reveal its proven system for success in Local Search Optimization. Webolutions experts will be on hand to help you determine if and to what degree your business can and should man-age this on its own and provide options for getting help in growing your business through Local Search Marketing.

Upcoming Business Trainings
Business Success Workshop Series continues-September 10th
5 Secrets to Success
Converting Suspects to Sales
Tuesday, Sept. 10th
9:30 to 1:00 pm
Castle Oaks Evangelical Church
826 Park St, Castle Rock, CO
Are you getting sales by accident or by design? Most business owners admit they get most sales by accident. Com-ments like these prove my point, “I met my last customer in the grocery line”, or “a friend of my wife referred my
newest client”.
Selling is an art as well as a science. Do you ask yourself these questions? 1) How can I consistently get in front of more qualified prospects? 2) How will I attract more prospects? 3) What message will help me to close more sales? 4)
How did I lose that sale? At one point everyone in sales has asked these questions. What will you do next?
Discover how to increase the number of leads, and close more sales by using Mike Tafoya’s 5
sales secrets developed during the down economy.
In the workshop you will develop systems to:
• Build strong relationships before trying to sell
• Focus on the client not on products and services
• Be the expert and identify the pain
• Read your prospect-they will tell you when they are ready.
Over the past 30 years, Mike Tafoya has been a leader in business development, sales process
and sales strategies. Mike will tell you that in this economy his old techniques began to fail and sales declined. As a result, he developed a new sales approach which he now trains and coaches his clients to greater success. Start getting the results you need now and attend Mike’s newest
sales workshop.

Fire restrictions removed in unincorporated Douglas County- The Doug-
las County Sheriff’s Office lifted the temporary fire restriction order for
all areas of unincorporated Douglas County, yet will continue to closely
monitor the fire danger in the County and make appropriate adjust-
ments. Recent rainfall and cooler temperatures have reduced the danger
of wildfire, however, the Sheriff encourages individuals to be vigilant, as
the danger of fire is always present. While many individuals will continue
to enjoy the mountains and parks through the remainder of the season,
they should be reminded to use caution when starting and extinguishing
campfires, disposing of lighted cigarettes, and other activities that in-
volve the use of fire or sparks as warm and windy days can quickly lower
the fuel moisture content of trees and grasses, making them susceptible
to ignition.
Partnership of Douglas County Governments Launches Senior Initiative
Outreach Effort-Countywide Survey and Listening Tour are offered to
facilitate input. For Douglas County residents aged 60 and older, their
local governments are all ears. The County is experiencing the nation’s
most dramatic percentage of population growth in adults aged 60 and
older. According to the State Demography Office, by 2030 it is estimated
that one in four residents of Douglas County will be age 60 or older – ap-
proximately 24% of the County’s population. To plan for this population
shift and their needs, The Partnership of Douglas County Governments —
a collaborative organization whose members are Castle Pines, Castle
Rock, Douglas County, Douglas County Libraries, Douglas County School
District, Highlands Ranch Metro District, Larkspur, Lone Tree, and Parker
— established the Senior Initiative. Visit www.douglas.co.us/
