AZPDC President 2012–2013

Karl Von Wolff

Is everyone excited to get the Trials going again? I sure am, and am glad that we figured out a

plan to get things back on track. Thanks to the board members for giving up an afternoon to

meet, discuss and get this planned out. Interestingly, we met at Bass Pro’s for this meeting, a

couple of members as well as Dave Auten had suggested this as a new meeting location, so after

the meeting the board checked out their accommodations, and long story longer, the new meet-

ing location will be at Bass Pro’s instead of the Denny’s I had located. The facilities are very

nice and you can bring food up in the conference rooms on the second floor but you have to get

it before you go to the room, there are no waiters. We’re going to give this a go for a few

months and see if this can help attendance, so please come out and join us. We do need to start

promptly at 7pm as we have to be out of the store by 9pm. The Bass Pro’s is located at Loop

202 and Dobson, just south of the 202. It’s very easy to find and can be seen from the road. I am

looking forward to seeing every one there. I think you’ll really like this month’s speaker as

well!

Calling all volunteers!!! The AKC hunt test is official now, paper work has been submitted,

approved (barely), and paid. I didn’t realize but it’s been 5 years since AZPDC ran its last hunt

test. So now that it’s official, I’ll be asking over and over for folks to come up and help out, and

of coarse, enter your dogs!

I’ve also received a request from Cabela’s to do some demonstrations at their Family Outdoor

Day, I’ve asked for more information on what they are looking for and how long the event

is. I’d like the club to have a presence at this event to help draw new members. The notice said

this was planned for the weekend of September 22nd, so as I get more information I’ll pass it

on. On the subject of club awareness/membership drive, Jim Cassara and Jack Mitchell came

up with a great idea. Game and Fish has a section in their regulations “Clinics, Raffles, and

Partnerships”, where we could schedule an event/clinic that would be open to the public where

we help out anyone that comes out or that is interested in bird dogs! What a great idea!

We’ll, the year may not have got off to the best start with the interference from Mother Nature,

but it is shaping up nicely! I’m excited about the remainder of the year, and guess what…bird

hunting season is only a month away! Dove season opens in September! See everyone at the

next club meeting.

Sincerely,

Karl Von Wolff

Once again not much to write about on the Trial

front, as June and July’s trials were cancelled due to

forest closures. We do however have some great

news for upcoming trials. Please see the details on a

Well I think we have a plan for the remainder of the year. We were able to get the August trial moved

up a week, it will be at Smith Tank. I for one am really looking forward to getting out of the valley and

up to the mountains. For the remainder of the year, we are planning to hold the next Trial over Labor

Day weekend, it will be a 3 day trial, Saturday-Monday, Kelly and Dawn have volunteered to chair that

trial. And then finally, we will be moving TOC towards the end of September, one of the last 2 week-

ends of the month. We don’t have a chair for TOC, so if you are interested please let me know. So

come on up and enjoy some good company, good folks, good dog work, and time in the mountains.

For those interested in AFTCA, the 2012/2013 schedule has been set, AZPDC will once again be host-

This years season will be wrapping up quickly, so with that in mind, I’ll be relinquishing my role as

the Trial Coordinator and am now officially asking for someone to take this on for next year. If

you’re interested please let me know, I can answer any questions you might have.

Thanks,

Karl

Arizona Pointing Dog Club Mission Statement The Arizona Pointing Dog Club is the organization for the hunter who wants to do more than just hunt with his or her dog during hunting season. The Club promotes the training and use of pointing dogs in the sport of upland bird hunting in order to enjoy the sport to its highest potential. We have a general meeting once a month featuring films or guest speakers with information, tips and ideas regarding upland hunting, dog training and related hunting concerns in Arizona.
