Change, it seems to be the theme of the year… The biggest change for the Great Lake Watercross Tour in 2009 was the move to being sanctioned by the IJSBA. With that said, everything has been going well. The biggest improvement over past seasons is seeing the increased number of racer entries along with new faces at every round of the Great Lakes Watercross Tour. Fast forward to Sheboygan, WI, specifically Deland Beach, the site for Round 6 of the Great Lakes Watercross Tour. This also happens to be home to the Dairyland Classic Surf Competition held every Labor Day Weekend. Coming into the weekend I knew that two things were for sure, the Waves would be a factor and the water would be cold. On Sunday morning when I arrived the air was a chilly 62 degrees, and the fog was dense. It would only be a matter of time though and the sun burnt off the layer of fog and racing was about to begin. Waves and how you were able to read them and ride in them was the name of the game today. This made for some awesome racing action and provided for several lead changes throughout most motos for the day. The course itself lent to some great air as there were a couple sections that had you battling back out through the surf allowing for some great air time. In all the racing in Sheboygan proved to be great and I was able to win both of my classes: Expert Ski Limited and Vet Ski Open. This brought me to 6 for 6 wins in the Great Lakes Watercross 2009 Triple Crown of Surf Racing. Now Rewind to the previous weekend (8/1 & 8/2): 2009 IJSBA U.S. National Championships, held in Charleston, WV and put on by Upstate Watercraft Promotions. The list of racers that attended this event from the Great Lakes Watercross Tour is as follows: Brad Bohat, Joe Bohaczek, Kevin Gong, Scott Hyke, Spencer Sieracki, Joshua Blum, and the Duo of Craig and Luke Fritz. Upstate Watercraft Promotions along with the City of Charleston pulled out the red carpet on this event. The course was great, which was designed by GLWT Race Director Scott Hyke . There was also a killer rider’s party Saturday night. To top things off the EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour was hosting an event in conjunction with the watercross races. All participants from the GLWT showed up and Cleaned House! The results from the IJSBA U.S. National Championships are as follows: Joshua Blum: 1st Vet Ski Open*, 2nd Expert Ski Limited Spencer Sieracki: 1st Jr Ski Stock*, 2nd Novice Ski Stock Brad Bohat: 1st Amateur Runabout Stock*, 4th Pro/Am Runabout Stock Joe Bohaczek: 2nd Amateur Runabout Stock, 6th Pro/Am Runabout Stock Craig Fritz: 1st Classic Runabout Stock*, 1st Classic Runabout Limited*, 7th Pro/Am Runabout Stock Luke Fritz: 2nd Classic Runabout Stock Scott Hyke: 3rd Masters Ski Open, 8th Pro/Am Ski Open Kevin Gong: 4th Novice Runabout Limited *Denotes 2009 IJSBA National Champion

Prairie Motorsports, Round 7 event sponsors, provided GLW with two new helmets, cases of oil, goggles, and gloves which were distributed to racers during the awards ceremony. Racers all entered their names for a drawing to win the helmets. The lucky drawing winners were Pro Freestyler Greg Brock and Junior Ski Devin Sarenich, shown here posing with their new helmets.

As in previous years, Skat-Trak has again provided GLW with $100.00 gift certificates to be awarded to Racers. The winners of these gift certificates for Rounds 7 were; Steve King - Veterans Ski Open, Derek Jensen - Novice Runabout Limited, Lewie Miller - Beginner Runabout Limited, Susan Voss – Women Runabout Limited, Dean Pajerski – Expert Ski Limited, and Joelle Hicks – Novice Women Ski Limited.

Congratulations Winners!
