Message from the President

Hope everyone has had a fabulous summer!! In May, the Annual General Meeting was held at the Hamptons Golf and Country Club. It is an excellent

location and the lunch was delicious. Congratulations to June Martin who was awarded an honorary life membership.

The Website for Pegg Wives’ was officially launched at the AGM. This website will provide centralized information for current members as well as providing potential members with information about our club. You will be asked on the registration form as to whether you would like your newsletter to be mailed to you or if you are happy to receive it electronically. The choice will be up to you. I encourage everyone to go to www.peggwives.com and check it out. The password is “friendship”. For those who like to work on the computer, I think you will like it and will find it very beneficial. Please feel free to give me your feedback at any time or if you have something that should be included on the website, please let me know.

In June, I had the pleasure of attending the Annual Golf Tournament at Douglasdale Golf Course. It was a beautiful day and a great success. A big thank you to Helga Shier and Jan Myers for organizing this event.

It is time to start thinking about Fall activities and Ursula Tabsh, our social convenor, and her assistant, Rita Cushon, are planning some exciting events. The Coffee Party will be held on Friday, September 5th at the Winter Club. It is a great time to reconnect with friends and to meet new members. Please consider introducing a prospective member to our Club so that we can remain a healthy and vibrant organization . A Car Rally and Fall dinner will take place Sunday, September 28th. It is always a great deal of fun. Space is limited so I suggest you phone Ursula as soon as possible to reserve your spot. The fashion show in October and our Christmas Dinner in December are sure to be fabulous.

Everyone, including Honourary Life Members, are reminded to fill out the membership form. If you are planning to attend the coffee party, please fill in the forms beforehand and attach your cheque and deliver them to the ladies at the membership table. If you are unable to attend the coffee party, please send your membership form to Shirley Kerr before September 5th to ensure that you name is listed in the club roster.

I look forward to greeting everyone at the Membership Coffee Party and to seeing you all at our various events throughout the year. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Kathy Litvinchuk 271-8579

Past President’s Report

First I would like to thank you for the silver tray you presented me with. It is a beautiful keepsake to remind me of my year as President of PEGG Wives’.

One of my duties this year is to send out cards to members, so please inform me by phone or “email” if you know of any member who is ill, who has lost someone close, who needs cheering up or is celebrating a special occasion.

Since the AGM I have sent the following: a get well card to Beryl Cane, a sympathy card to the family of Marion Tims, a sympathy card to June Martin on the loss of her mother, and a sympathy card to Betty Baxendale on the loss of her husband John, and a sympathy card was sent to Millie Eckford on the loss of her husband Donald. Donations were sent to the Rockyview Grief Support Program in John Baxendale’s and Donald Eckford’s names.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and I hope to see you at the Registration Coffee Party. Anne Kostyniuk 281-1623 “e mail” [email protected]

MEET YOUR EXECUTIVE 2003-2004 Kathy Litvinchuk President I joined PEGG Wives in 1998 after retiring from my career in Human Resources Management. During these past five years, I have been involved in golfing, mixed bridge, ladies bridge, line dancing and the Moneymaker’s Investment Club. I have served on the executive as Assistant Social Convenor, Social Convenor, Athletic Counsellor, and Vice-President. I look forward to my new role as President and to meeting each and every one of you. Margaret Gibson Vice-President I have been a member of PEGG Wives for 6 years and have been involved with and enjoy the walking group, golf, Moneymaker’s Investment Club and many of the social functions. I previously served on the executive as Recording Secretary. I look forward to my new role as Vice-President. The coming year should be an exciting one. Thank you for the opportunity to serve on the executive once again. Anne Kostyniuk Past President The best part of being in the PEGG Wives’ Club for the past thirty one years is the wonderful ladies I have met. During this time I enjoyed bridge, curling, Money Makers Investment Club and the many social functions. Before serving as President I was Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Membership Convener, as well as a convener of several activity groups. I look forward to another year as your Past President. Joan Popowich Treasurer I joined PEGG Wives in 1988 and through the years have enjoyed the fellowship and friendship this Club offers. I have participated in many of the social events and activities and was a founding member of the Cache Club Investment Group. In past years, I have also served on the executive as Social Convener, Culture and Crafts Counsellor, President, Recording Secretary and this year look forward with pleasure to serving on the Executive once more as Treasurer. . Ursula Tabsh Social Convener Over the past few years I have enjoyed and actively participated in many of the social events of the club. I have especially enjoyed serving on the Executive in a variety of functions. Currently I am member of the Moneymakers Investment Club. I am looking forward to working with the new and returning members of the Executive as your Social Convener this year. Rita Cushon Assistant Social Convener After living in Houston, Texas for eight years, it has been fun to return to Calgary and rejoin PEGG Wives. I plunged right in and participated in all the social events this year and was active in most of the bridge groups. It was great to connect with old friends again and see them on a regular basis, and it was also fun to meet so many new friendly ladies. When asked to serve as the assistant social convener, I decided it would be a wonderful way to continue my involvement at another level. I look forward to working closely with this special group of women and planning some great events this year that you will not want to miss. Joan Benetti Corresponding Secretary The past 4 years with PEGG Wives have been a real highlight. The social events and Wednesday evening bridge have been a godsend. Being on the executive again this year is going to be even more of a challenge for me. I hope to follow in Shirley's footsteps with the newsletter without too many stumbles or missteps. The ladies in our group have given me the gift of friendship and laughter to which I say Thank you. Let's all have a great year.

Penny Bower Assistant Corresponding Secretary I have been a member of PEGG Wives since 1995 and have enjoyed, at various times, a variety of activities. I have served on the Executive before and am looking forward to doing so again as Assistant Corresponding Secretary (which really means photographer). If you take a great picture at a PEGG Wives event and think it should be added to our albums, please send me a copy. We are hoping to add some of the best to our Web site. Shirley Ann Kerr Membership Convener I have been a member of PEGG Wives for many years and have served on the Executive for four years. This will be my 5th year and I return as the Membership Convener, due to a resignation. I look forward to working with some very talented and friendly women. I hope to see many of you at the various PEGG functions, especially the Membership Coffee Party in September. I will be travelling quite a bit next year but hope to accomplish all my duties and have a very interesting year. Ann Lenstra Assistant Membership Convener I rejoined Pegg Wives Club in 2000 and have enjoyed participating with the North Bridge, Mixed Bridge and Mixed Duplicate Bridge groups. Seldom does one meet so many gracious and interesting people through a single outlet. Thank you for inviting me to serve on the executive with great ladies. I look forward to expanding my horizons with the club. Sherri Eichhorn Recording Secretary I joined PEGG WIVES in 1984. I have participated in mixed bridge, afternoon bridge, evening bridge and read and rap and enjoyed these activities as well as the social events. Last year I served as the Bridge Counsellor on the executive - a very positive experience, and am looking forward to serving on the executive this year as the recording secretary. Margareta Magnusson Athletic Counsellor My name is Margareta Magnusson and I have now been a member of PEGG Wives Club of Calgary for almost 1 year. I’m however not totally new to the organization since I was a member of the Edmonton PEGG Wives some 15 years ago. Since I finished my career with Royal Bank I decided to rejoin PEGG again. I am active in golf and hiking/walking and have thoroughly enjoyed both the Wednesday golf at Douglasdale and the Friday walks around the city trails. As Athletic Counsellor I will attempt to follow my predecessor’s good work and hope to see many of you out on the trails and courses. Judy Doran Bridge Counsellor I joined PEGG Wives in the fall of 2001, so am really just one of the 'new kids' on the block. I have attended quite a few of the planned activities during the past two years, and have enjoyed meeting a pleasant variety of new people. I play bridge with the Ladies North group, as well as Mixed bridge and this past year, Duplicate bridge. I especially enjoy our Mixed bridge Christmas and Wind-up parties at the Willow Park Golf and Country Club. I am looking forward to meeting and knowing more of you, as I take over the position of bridge counsellor on the executive. If you have any tips or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Here's to a good year! Lu Horwood Culture & Crafts Counsellor I joined PEGG Wives first in 1974 and, after many moves back and forth across the Country, I finally re-joined two years ago. I have enjoyed the golf and walking groups as well as the book club. Last year I served as Athletic Counsellor and had such a good time on the Executive that I’m pleased to participate again this year.
