1 Mayor Tran, Vice Mayor Grilli, and Council Members GREAT NEWS FOR CITY OF MILPITAS COMMUNITY! Santa Clara County Playgrounds Grant Award: On August 14’s Board of Supervisors Meeting, the City of Milpitas and MUSD joint All Inclusive Playground Grant proposal funding was approved for $779,820! The grant funding will be utilized to create two connected state-of-the-art playground areas designed for all accessible play on the new McCandless Park and Mabel Mattos Elementary School sites. This year-long grant application process included critical community-wide contributions including a City-led special needs programming focus group, a community-based survey on accessible play importance, and heartfelt letters of support from Milpitas families advocating for the two all-inclusive playgrounds that aim to serve people of all ages and all abilities. The Recreation and Community Services Department will be working with the County of Santa Clara on the grant terms and contracts, and will come for City Council approval on the acceptance of the grant in early Fall. Milpitas High Welcome Back Rally: On Monday, August 13 th at 8:00 a.m., Vice Mayor Grilli, Councilmember Nuñez, City Manager Edmonds-Mares along with Police Chief Corpuz and Command Staff attended the Welcome Back Rally at Milpitas High School. Milpitas Unified School District Board President Daniel Bobay recognized outgoing School Resource Officer John Muok, and incoming School Resource Officer Kita Inthasak. See photo on the right. Back to School: On Tuesday, August 14 th , two electronic sign boards were erected near the high school, advising residents of increased traffic as a result of the first day of school. A press release was disseminated to local media and social media about increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic. On Thursday, August 16 th , four (4) Traffic Safety officers were deployed in the area of Milpitas High School, Thomas Russell Middle School, and Pomeroy Elementary School between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., and 2:45 pm. to 3:15 p.m. The Traffic officers were supplemented with additional Patrol officers to ensure the safe passage of children. One traffic officer was assigned at the new Mattos Elementary School on McCandless Avenue to monitor traffic and assess if a second crossing guard may be needed at the school in the future. Staff Updates: In 2006, Officer Inthasak was hired by the Milpitas Police Department. Officer Inthasack has worked in Patrol Services, Investigations, and is now a School Resource Officer, which is part of the Police- Community Relations Unit. Officer Inthasack is tri-lingual, speaking English, Laotian, and Vietnamese. Officer Inthasack is very excited to start his new assignment and continue the strong bond between the Milpitas Police Department and the Milpitas Unified School District. On Thursday, August 16th, Police Chief Armando Corpuz hired Police Officers Mychal Huynh, and Rakia Falcon. Their appointment date will be September 5, 2018 at which time they will begin in-house training. City Council, City Manager and Department Heads are invited to attend their Badge Pinning Event on Thursday, September 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Police Department Community Room. An invite will be forthcoming. Building and Occupancy Permits Building permit was issued to the following:

1. Pulte Homes developer of Metro Flats & Rows, 303 townhome and single family units’ development located at 1401 South Milpitas Boulevard (formerly Milpitas Station) for the construction of two buildings consists of 12 units at a total estimated construction cost of $3.71M.

2. Sprig Center- Floor & Décor, for the site improvements of a single story new building for a retail store selling interior floor finish products located at 1525 McCarthy Boulevard at an estimated construction cost of 1.4M.

Building permit application was submitted by the following:

1. Nanometrics, an advanced process control systems and solutions business, for tenant improvement at their existing facility located at 1550 Buckeye Dr. at an estimated construction cost of $1.5M.

2. Shabuya, for the tenant improvements of a new Japanese restaurant located at 84 Ranch Drive at an estimated construction cost of $450,000.

3. PDF solutions, a developer company for process-design integration technologies for integrated circuits, for tenant improvement at this new facility located at 1473 N Milpitas Blvd. at an estimated construction cost of $300,000.

Occupancy permit applications were submitted by new businesses moving to Milpitas:

1. Missile Tow & Transport All Day & Night Towing, administrative office for towing & transport company located at 1313 North Milpitas Boulevard.

2. The Bento Box, Chinese restaurant located at 228 Barber Court. 3. Alignment Health Plan, administrative medical offices located at 1313 North Milpitas Boulevard.

The following businesses have received final inspection and are now open for operation:

1. Yoshi Inc., small scale manufacturing refueling equipment business located at 1128 Wrigley Way. 2. Empire Building maintenance Inc., maintenance & janitorial service operations office located at 547

Sinclair Frontage Road. Constructions Update

Metro Towns & Rows, 149 townhomes development located at 1401 South Milpitas Boulevard: Two more 3-story buildings with a total of 12 units were finaled at the development, bringing it to a total of 69 completed units in the development. See photo on the left.

Sportsman’s Warehouse located at 111 Ranch Drive: To allow earlier start of operation, Building Department issued a temporary occupancy permit to Sportsman’s Warehouse, outdoor sporting goods retail store.

The Edge, 381-unit apartment complex with 8000 sq. ft. of commercial, wrapped around 9-story garage building development by Citation Homes located at 765 Montague Expressway: The below photos are taken showing the progress on completion of finishes on the west and east side of the apartment complex. 75% work is complete at the first floor retail area and 1st phase of the apartments will be released by the first week of October.

Police Activities League – Teen Rugby Academy: On Saturday, August 11th, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon, Massage Envy sponsored Milpitas Police Activities League (PAL) Teen Rugby Academy. The instruction was geared towards introducing the game and club to new people. There were approximately 12 youth participating, including four new girls who will be joining the team in November when practices resume.
