Sometimestherearepeoplewhohaveinsomnia.Butassoonastheycomefora

discourse that discusses the glories of the Lord , immediately they start

snoring.MaharajaParikshit on the other handwas extremely eager tohear the

glories of the Supreme Lord.Parikshit Maharaja had made it very clear to

SukadevaGoswami that hewanted tohear the glories of the Lord inasmuch

detailaspossible.HedidnotwantSukadevaGoswamito takeashorterroute in

trying to describe about the Lord.Parikshit Maharaja expressed his extreme

anxiousnessinhearingabouttheLordtoSukadevaGoswami.ParikshitMaharaja

goestoexplain,whyoneshouldhearthegloriesoftheLordandallthingsrelated

toHim,WhocanhearabouttheLordandwhyoneneedstocomeinassociation

ofdevoteesoftheLord.Healsoexplainsas towhoarethetypeofpersonswho

willneverbeinclinedtohearabouttheLord.Allthisisexplainedinjustoneverse

intheSrimadBhagavatham.TheLordisdesignatedbythenameUttamaShloka

which means one who is glorified by the choicest of poetries.By hearing the

glories of the Lord one gets elevated from the material conception of life.In

Satsanga we see the world from Krishnas viewpoint.One realizes the

insignificanceoflife.Whenonewalksontheroad,Astructureofahouseoratree

looks formidable and huge.Howeverwhen one is airborne , the biggest of skyscrapers on the surfaceof the earth look quite insignificant.One realizes ones

insignificance in thearrangementof things.This happens thehigherwego.The

lowerweare,evensmallbarriersoverwhelmus.

Onecanrealizethatwhenone is intheassociationofsinceredevoteesandas

onegetsairbornebyhearingKrishnaKathafromthemouthofasincereservant

oftheLord,onebecomesallthemorehumbleandradiantwiththeknowledgeof

hisrelationshipwith theSupremeandassumes thepositionofaservantof the

Lord.AswecontinuetohearthegloriesoftheLordwemayretaintheknowledge

even as we walk out of the lecture hall and there can be a tellingeffect.Asa

surface of the earth , one often becomes philosophical and considers his

existenceinthepieceoflandasinsignificant.Hefeelsmoreandmoreclosetothe

plansoftheCreator.Howeverastheairplanelands,theobjectsonthesurfaceof

the earth starts becoming bigger and the philosophical bent of mind also

weakens.The personwho used to feel his insignificance in the arrangementof

things , suddenly starts becoming aware of his earthly position and soon gets

plagued with worldly thoughts.This is the temporary nature of human

understanding.

ToseethingsproperlymeanstoseethingsfromtheCreatorspointofview.FromKrishnas body , multitudinous universes emanate. When He looks at one

individual,onecanimaginehowinsignificantthatindividualis,intheeyesofthe

Creator.At leastwhenone is in the association ofdevoteesandhears Krishna

Katha , one automatically starts seeing things in the proper perspective.This

process naturally humbles us.Actually Krishna Katha is called Amrita. When

demigodsstartchurningtheoceanalongwithdemons,theyactuallydothatwitha

viewto obtainingAmritaorNectar.Whenone consumes thisNectar,heobtains

immortality.Amrita gives three things.It is first of all very very tasty.Secondly it

increasesyourlifespan.Lastlyitmakesonestrongandpowerful.Howeverwhen

SukadevaGoswamiisspeaking toParikshitMaharaja,ParikshitMaharaja isnot

interestedinthatAmrita.InsteadParikshitMaharajawantedtodrinktheNectarof

theHolyName,Pastimes,Form,Qualitiesof theLord throughhis ears.This is the

sweetestnectarcomparedtoallotherNectarwhichisinsignificantcomparedto

thegloriesoftheSupremeLord.Italsogivesonetremendousinnerstrengthand

makesonetotallyfearless.Itisawellknownfactthatevenafterconsumingloads

ofAmrita,thedemigodswereveryfearfulofthedemons.Howeverifonedrinks

Krishna Katha, he would become utterly fearless.Demigods were fearful of

HiranyaKashyipu,howeverlittlePrahladMaharajaremainedfearlessinthemidst

ofterrorofhisfather.Onlyapersonwhohasretiredfrommaterialengagements

andhasaheartpurifiedandbereftofmaterialdesirescanspeakKrishnaKatha.

ThreetypesofpeoplecantakeadvantageofKrishnaKatha.Thosepeoplewhoare

ever liberated,those people who are aspiring to get liberated.People who are

immersedinmaterialactivity canalso take advantageKrishnaKatha.Thereare

different types of medicines that are administered in various ways. Some

medicinesareadministeredorally.Somemedicinesaregivenintraveinously.Some

medicines are given through the nose.However the medicine that cures the

seeminglyeternaldiseaseofmaterialbondageisdeliveredthroughtheears.Thus

KrishnaKathaisthatpotentantidotetotheallbindingmaterialshackles.

Thismedicineunlikeothermedicinesissweet.Fortheconditionedsoulsthisisa

medicine.For people aspiring to get liberated, it is half medicine and half

nectar.Suchpeoplearelikehalfripemangoes.Bitterinsomespots.Sourinsome

placesandsweet inotherplaces.For liberatedsouls,Hari katha isa juicy ripe

mango.Whether Krishna is inKurukshetra orKrishna inVrindavana orKrishna

withUddhava,inallcasestheliberatedbeingssimplydrinkdeepoutofthenectar

of Krishna Katha. However conditioned souls show strong preferences ofHari

Katha.TheydonotenjoyallaspectsofHariKathawiththesamegusto.Somelike

RaasLeela,someofthemdonotpreferhearingBhagavadGitaphilosophyandso

on.ThisindicatestheirimmaturityinBhakti.

Howeverpeoplewhoaretotallyconditionedareliketotallysourmangoes.theonly

thingthattheycanrelatewithKrishnaisthat,theywouldalsoliketoenjoylifelike

Lord Krishna did, like dancing with the Gopis.Amazingly Krishna continues to

attracttheheartofoneandall.AllenviouspeopleareenviousofKrishnaandwant

to become like Him.Still this is purifying to a great extent.Such is the all

encompassing attractive qualities of Lord Krishna. There is a recommended

dosageofKrishnaKathaasmentionedintheSrimadBhagavatham.Oneneedsto

read some verses of the Bhagavatham every day without fail.This will act as

medicineandslowlystarttakingeffect.ThereisabeautifulverseintheMukunda

Mala Stotra by Maharaja KulaSekhara.KulaSekhara was a great King and

Acharyain theSriSampradaya.Inhiscompositionhe glorifiesKrishnaKathaas

Divya Aushadham or Transcendental Medicine.Maharaja KulaSekhara , here

addresses theMind,because theMindofmanis responsible forbothBondage

and freedom.Amindwhich issubdued isthebestof friendsandamind that is

uncontrolled is the worst of enemies.Mindhas all the desires.It is the material

desiresthathasdraggedusfromtheSpiritualWorldtotheMaterialWorld.

One cannot remain without desires however one has to change the nature of

desires.Thosedesiresarestoredinthemind.ThusKulaSekharapleadsthemind

todrinkthemedicineofKrishnaKatha.Krishnasays intheBhagavadGita,One

whounderstandsthetranscendentalnatureofHisbirthandactivities,upongiving

upthebody,doesnothavetoreturnbacktothismaterialworld.Suchaperson

attainsHisSupremeAbode.ThisMedicineisactuallyaPanacea,anAllinone

elixir.
