Aschildrenwearefamiliarwiththestoryofthehareandthe tortoise.Theharewas very enthusisatic , however was overconfident and he slept as he raced

ahead of the tortoise.The tortoise however steadily progressed to win the

serviceforaverylongtime.

FaithislikeAccelerator.Doubtislikebrakes.Onecansimplyunderstandthatfaith

anddoubtcannotco-exist.OnejustcannotpresstheAcceleratorofavehicleand

In the beginning of the 10th Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatham , Parikshit

MaharajaisaddressingSukadevaGoswami.ParikshitMaharajawastheunrivalled

emperoroftheentireworld.Hewasyoung,dynamicandoneofthemosteminent

ofalltheemperorsthathadbeeninthepast.Hewasatthepeakofhisglorywhen

hewascursedbyabrahmanatodiein7days.Suchaneventisverydifficultto

imagine.OneofthemostpopularserialsinAmericawasthatbasedononeofthe

richestmenthere.Thismanwentto thedoctorfora routinecheckup.Thedoctor

proclaimedaftercheckupthatthemanwassufferingfromaterminalillnessand6

monthsisallhehad.Thewholeserialwasbasedonhowthismanenjoyedforthe

next 6 months.One time he is an African Jungle safari along with beautiful

The conception of the Srimad Bhagavathamof that of real enjoyment and real

happiness is totally different.It is 180 deg paradigm shift.Here is Maharaja

Parakshit , havingall thatwhichamortalaspiresfor , suddenlycomes toknow

thatheisgoingtodiein7days.Mostintelligentpersonthathewas,hetookupto

devotiional service.Taking up to devotional service is a sign of very high

intelligence.ItisdescribedintheSrimadBhagavathamastowhowouldtakeupto

devotionalserviceinKaliyuga.Who isthemost intelligent personhere. It isone

who realizes that he isnot at all intelligent.InKaliyuga, the 450 gramsofgray

matter is not capable of comprehending the nature of the world, the laws

governingthem.Whyarecertainthingshappeningtocertainpeople.Whoisbehind

all this.Who is the Creator and so on.Themost intelligent person ishe , who

realizes that he is one of the least intelligent.That , one has no power to

understandthingsandthereforehastotakeshelterofsomeonewhoisconnected

tothegreatestthatistheSupremeLord.Themostintelligentpersonisonewho

hastakenshelterofagreatdevoteeoftheSupremeLordfully.Bysurrenderingto

thegreatsouandinquiringsubmissivelyandalsobyrenderingservicetohim,a

person becomes really intelligent and he attains the ultimate perfection of

life.Krishnaisthesourceandrootofallthatexistsandbywateringtheroot,every

partofthetreewillbenourished.

This understanding comes to the most intelligent person.As soon asParikhsit

Maharajunderstoodthatheisgoingtodie,tookshelterofSukadevaGoswami.He

wasalerttotheultimategoaloflife.AssoonasMaharajYudhishtircametoknow

thatLordKrishnahaddepartedfromtheplanet,heimmediatelyhandedoverhis

kingdomto Parikshitandwithoutasecondthought,startedmoving towards the

Northtopreparefortheultimategoaloflife.LifeisapreparationandDeathisthe

examination.Childrengotoschool,studyforthewholeyear.Howevertheirtestis

onlyfortwohours.andthosetwohourswilldecidewhetherhewillstayinthesame

classorgotothenexthigerclass.

IntheBhagavathGita,KrishnatellsArjunaThinkaboutmeasyoufight.Arjuna

should fightonly for tepleasureofKrishna.It isnotwhatyoudo thatmakesan

activityspiritualbutwhyyoudo,whatyoudo,thatmakesitspiritual.Arjunaand

Duryodhanaaredoingthesameactivitiesonthebattlefield,sittingonthechariot

andshootingarrows.Botharedoingtheselfsameactivities.One isdoing itwith

selfish,egoistic,selfcentricdesire.Theother,wascarryingout theactivitieswithno particular interest but only at the behest of Krishna he takes up the

challenge.Now,who comes out with flying colors.It is one who remembers Sri

Krishnaattheendoflife.ItisonewhohasrememberedtheLordthroughouthis

lifeashistopmostpriorityoflife.MaharajParikshitrelinquishedeverything,came

onthebanksoftheGangesandaskedallthegreatsageswhohadgatheredthere

astowhatwasthemostappropriateactivitythatheshoulddowhichwillbeforhis

ultimategood.Thereweremanydifferencesofopinionasthesagesdiscussedthe

matterandbyKrishnasinconceivablearrangement,arrivedSukadevaGoswami.

AssoonasSukadevaGoswamiarrived,hewasaskedtooccupytheVyasasana

andMaharajaParikshitofferedhimobeisanses.SukadevaGoswamithenstartedthe most exalted activity, that is discussing the glories of the Lordwhichwas

unanimouslyacceptedasthemostappropriateactivitythatcanbeperformedfor

all good.As Sukadeva Goswami was discussing the 10th Canto of the

Bhagavatham it was already the 6th day.Therewas just1 day left for Parikshit

Maharajatomeethisfatefuldeath.Forthepast6days,ParikshitMaharajahad

neithereatenanything,nordrunkanything,neitherhadhesleptawink!
